Abstract
A hanger primarily designed to hold pants, skirts, ties or scarves, embodies one or more vertical arms attached to a horizontal bar.
Each vertical arm houses a solid or hollow retaining cylinder or ring, which rolls up and down between the walls of the vertical arm. One wall of the vertical arm has a channel. As a clothing article is inserted upward between the walls of the vertical arm, the article pushes the retaining cylinder up, causing it to roll along the channel and out of the way of the clothing article. When the article is released, it allows the retaining cylinder to roll back down and grip the clothing article between the surface of the retaining cylinder and the flat (non-channelled) wall of the vertical arm.

Description
SPECIFICATION
1. The present invention relates to a clothing and textile hanger, primarily designed for hanging pants, skirts, ties, scarves and other textile articles.
1. The present invention relates to a clothing and textile hanger, primarily designed for hanging pants, skirts, ties, scarves and other textile articles.
2. Clothes hangers, particularly pant and skirt hangers, of the type which hold the garments by means of two clips affixed to either end of a horizontal bar, while commonly used by the public, are inconvenient to use, particularly in removal of the garment from the hanger. While it is possible to simply pull the garment out of the clips, there is a risk of damage to the garment. To avoid the risk of damage, a user must remove the hanger from the closet rod, and release the clips one at a time using one hand to open the clip and the other hand to pull the garment away from the hanger once the clip is opened.
3. Pant and skirt hangers of the type employing one large clamp to hold the garment are also inconvenient to use. They require the user to remove the hanger from the closet both to hang the garment and to remove the garment from the hanger. Further, this type of hanger is likely to cause wrinkles across the surface of the garment.
4. Hangers of the type used to hang ties are cumbersome to use, usually requiring the user to thread the narrow end of the tie through a slot or over a horizontal bar.
5. The present invention permits a person to hang pants, skirts, ties, scarves and other textile articles quickly, without having to remove the hanger from a closet rod. Instead of clips, it utilizes a retaining cylinder which grips the garment against a flat surface. The retaining cylinder is housed between the walls of a vertical arm, but moves freely up and down, rolling along a channel in one of the walls.
6. To hang an article, the article is pushed up between the retaining cylinder and the flat wall of the vertical arm. As the retaining cylinder rolls up along the channel, it recesses into the concave shape of the channel, thereby allowing the article to slide past the retaining cylinder. When the article is released, the retaining cylinder will slide downward, holding the article in place.
The light pressure used to hold the textile article minimizes wrinkling of the article. The article can be released easily without removing the hanger from the closet rod, by pulling the article upwards and to the side.

7. The present invention can be made with two vertical arms at either end of the horizontal member. This structure would be suitable for pants and skirts. The present invention can also be made with many vertical arms, suitable for use as a tie or scarf hanger. To be used as a hanger to be hung on a closet rod, the length of the horizontal member is limited by the depth of the closet. The present invention can also be mounted on to a wall, in which case the length of the horizontal member and therefore the number of vertical arms is limited only by the available wall space.
8. For a fuller understanding of the nature of the present invention, reference should be had to the following detailed descriptions taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in which Figure I is a top view, Figure II is an isometric view, Figure III is a front view and Figure IV is a side view of the present invention.
9. The invention comprises one or more vertical arms each of which holds a retaining cylinder. Figure III shows a front view of a hanger which has two vertical arms.
10. The retaining cylinder rolls freely up and down between the two walls of the vertical arm. Figure 4 shows the retaining cylinder which rolls upward along the concave channel described as Surface 3. As the clothing article is pushed upward, it slides between Surface 4 and the retaining cylinder. The retaining cylinder will recess into the channel as the clothing article pushes it out of the way. When the clothing article is released, it slides downward, as does the retaining cylinder. When the retaining cylinder comes to a stop, it grips the clothing article between the retaining cylinder and Surface 4. The surface of the retaining cylinder is staked or knurled to provide a rough surface to better grip the article between the retaining cylinder and the wall shown as Surface 4.
11. The article can be removed by grasping it and lifting it upward towards either side of the hanger.
12. In the drawings, two retaining cylinder structures are shown, suitable for use as a pant or skirt hanger. The present invention can be made with more retaining cylinder structures attached, to use for hanging many smaller items such as neckties or scarves.
Claims (3)
1. A hanger comprising a horizontal member, one or more vertical arms extending down at intervals along the horizontal member, each arm having two walls connected to the horizontal member at the upper end of the walls, a solid or hollow retaining cylinder or rod housed between the two walls and held in place within the channel while rolling freely up and down a channel in one of the walls, permitting a clothing article to be inserted, then released between the two walls, thereby causing the clothing article to be caught between the retaining cylinder and the non-channelled wall of the vertical arm.
2. A hanger as defined in claim 1, wherein the vertical surface of the channel in the wall of the vertical arm is concave in shape.
3. A hanger as defined in claim 1, wherein the surface of the retaining cylinder or rod is roughed to provide a firmer grip.
