Abstract
"Alarm system for refrigeration units. It is known to have a temperature sensor, and a thermometer/alarm unit. The system may be electrically powered with a backup battery or may be battery operated. When the internal temperature of the refrigeration unit rises above or falls below a temperature range, that is preset into the system by the user or the manufacturer, the alarm system will sound. The alarm may have a manual or automatic switch to turn the system off and on. This alarm system can be built into any type of refrigeration unit.
Description
SPECIFICATION
This invention relates to a refrigeration alarm system. Its purpose is to alert the user, when the refrigeration unit's internal temperature rises above a preset temperature, so the contents might be saved from thawing.
To my knowledge this system is the first of its kind, so no comparisons can be made.
This device will sound an alarm when the internal temperature of the refrigeration unit exceeds a preset level and could also be set to sound if the temperature falls below the preset range. The user may then salvage the food in the refrigeration unit.
The system can be powered by being plugged into an electrical outlet, with a battery backup, or by battery alone.
The sensor will be placed into the refrigeration unit, the cord placed between the door and wall of the refrigeration unit. The thermometer temperature range will be preset as recommended.
uln drawings which illustrate embodiments of the invention, figure 1 is a view of a typical electrical thermostat with an alarm system, and figure 2 is a typical mechanical thermostat with an alarm system.
The system illustrated in figure 1, comprises a power source 1, which may power the microcomputer 2. The microcomputer2, may have an on/off switch 3, to control power to the system. A sensor 4, may be placed in the refrigeration unit (not shown) to detect the internal temperature. The alarm system 5, is connected to the microcomputer 2, which is activated when the internal temperature of a refrigeration unit exceeds the set or preset temperature range. The system in figure 1, contains a temperature setting switch 6, which could be included in the design to allow the user to change the temperature range setting that will activate the alarm system 5. The battery backup 7, could be incorporated into the system and would then power the system in the event that the power source 1, were to fail. The battery backup 7, may be used as the main source of power.
In the embodiment shown in figure 2, there is a mechanical thermostat 8, which may be used in place of the sensor 4. If this option is incorporated into the system there would not be a need for the temperature setting switch 6."

Claims (4)
1. An alarm system for refrigeration units comprised of a sensor, electrical thermometer and alarm system. The unit senses changes in the refrigeration units internal temperature and sounds an alarm to let the user know if the internal temperature varies from the preset temperature range.
2. An alarm system as defined in claim 1, in which the alarm system is built into the refrigeration unit.
3. An alarm system as defined in claims 1, or 2, which would have a mechanical thermometer.
4. An alarm system as defined in claims 1, or 2 or 3, which is connected to a security system or communications system.
