Abstract
A downhole universal joint assembly includes a female tubular section having a radiused socket with several concave lobes. A male tubular section is provided having a radiused male member with several convex lobes. There are an equal number of convex lobes and concave lobes. The male member of the male tubular section engages the socket of the female tubular section. The radiused socket accommodates omnidirectional movement of the radiused male member. The engagement between the concave lobes and the convex lobes transmits rotational movement between the male tubular section and the female tubular section.
