Abstract
Zebra Mussels are contaminating all fresh water lakes & rivers connected to the Great Lakes. Intake lines soon become clogged as Zebra Mussel colonies grow inside intake piping. This apparatus will hold in place a filter bag of a small enough micron rating to filter out mature Zebra Mussels and their offspring.
The apparatus connects over the foot valve of your water system. The filter bag will be attached to the apparatus and water will be drawn through the filter bag into the pipe by the pump. All water must now pass through the filter bag.
Drawing # 1 shows a complete Parts List.
Drawing # 2 shows the filter bag in place on the apparatus.

Description
3 Description 4 The apparatus consists of a plastic 7.6 inch diameter bottom circle .50 inch thick (Fig #1). There is a 1.5 inch diameter hole threaded 1 1/4 national pipe tap in the 6 center of the 7.6 inch diameter ( Fig #2 ).
7 Four .25 inch diameter holes are equally spaced around the 7.6 inch diameter circle 8 on a 6.75 inch diameter from the center of the circle.
9 A .15 thick plastic tube 4.5 inches in diameter and 1.9 inches long with one end open 1o and one end closed with a 3.0 inch diameter hole in the closed end, is fastened 11 centrally to the 7.6 inch diameter circle with the 3.0 inch diameter hole against the 12 7.6 inch diameter circle ( Fig #3 ). Four # 10 Stainless steel sheet metal screws 5/8 13 inches in length, equally spaced on a 3.75 inch diameter hold the 4.5 inch diameter 14 ring to the 7.6 inch diameter circle.
A rubber o-ring .50 inches thick and 4.75 inside diameter is placed against the 7.6 16 inch diameter circle centered around the 1.5 inch taped hole ( Fig #4 ).
17 A 4.2 inch diameter tube 17.2 inches long with 112 One-inch diameter holes equally 18 spaced in the tube now inserts into the 4.5-inch diameter ring which connected to 19 the 7.6-inch circle ( Fig #5 ).
A top circle 7.6 inch in diameter of .50 thick plastic with a 5.4 inch diameter hole in 21 the center and four equally spaced .375 inch diameter holes on a 6.75 inch diameter 22 sits on the .475 diameter o-ring ( Fig #6 ).
23 Four '/4-20 Stainless Steel carriage bolt 2.0 inches in length press into the .25 inch 24 diameter holes in the 7.6 inch diameter bottom circle, past the 4.75 inch diameter o-ring and through the .375 inch diameter holes in the top circle ( Fig # 7 ).
Four'/4 -20 Stainless Steel nuts are used to tighten the top circle to the bottom circle thereby 4 compressing the o-ring. When the bag is installed this compression provides the seal between the filter bag and the apparatus.
6 To install the filter bag on the apparatus, you simply remove the four Stainless Steel 7 nuts and remove the top circle. Pull the bag down over the o-ring and reinstall the s top circle and the Stainless Steel nuts and tighten the ring. Your filter can now be 9 put in service.
