Description
TO: Canadian Intellectual Property Office, The Commissioner of Patents FROM Neil Larocque c/o Michael R. Whitt Barrister & Solicitor 555, 407 - 8th Ave. SW
Calgary, AB T2P lE5 RE: BUMPER SYSTEM FOR MOTOR VEHICLES - Canadian Patent being sought I am a resident of Canada, with the mailing address set out above, and I am the inventor and Applicant. This document sets forth a description of my invention, under section 93 of the Patent Rules, as follows:
The invention is an impact-absorbing bumper system designed to be attached to the outer edges of a motor vehicle, such as, but not limited to go-karts. More specifically, my invention is modular and designed to be attached to a part of, or all of, the circumference of a motor vehicle in a number of sections which may or may not be joined together.
Currently, there are three sections to the invention but the invention is not limited to just three sections. These sections are designed to be flexible and compress and expand upon impact. The invention is comprised of two sections of malleable molded material, such as plastic molded in various shapes, such as, but not limited to rectangular U-shaped in cross-section, which forms the shape of the bumper. Both substantially U-shaped sections are formed such that one section fits easily within the other section, their open sides facing each other. These sections are fastened slidably together by means of a fastener (bolt) through slots, both at the top and the bottom of the sections, at frequent intervals. Inside of the two joined sections is a compressible material which is able to expand and contract and thus absorbs shock forces resulting from collision of the vehicle with other objects.
The chief benefit of this invention is that when the vehicle collides with another object, the invention minimizes impact damage to the vehicle and the object with which it collides by dissipating energy internally within the compressible component of the bumper system.
Therefore, the vehcile can more readily withstand collisions, without damage, while remaining operable, safe and attractive.
Further, it is an unobvious improvement over the prior art, which consists of simple uniform rubber bumper substantially U-shaped that surrounds the vehicle.
Dated at Calgary, Alberta, this Z~ day of , 1999.
