Description

SNOWMAN KIT
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a snowman kit and more particularly to a kit of ornamental parts for use with snow for making a snowman.
BACKGROUND
In colder climates, it is common for children to engage in such outdoor activities as building a snowman. Various ornaments are often used to decorate the snowman however it can be very difficult to secure the ornaments to the snow.
SUMMARY
According to the present invention there is provided a snowman kit for use in decorating a snowman made of snow, the snowman kit comprising a plurality of ornaments, each having an anchoring portion arranged to penetrate the snow and an ornamental portion arranged to be displayed on a surface of the snowman.
The anchoring portion preferably comprises a tube having a first end arranged to penetrate the snow and a second end mounting the ornamental portion thereon.
The tube may have a diameter near in size to a width of the ornamental portion. The relatively large diameter of the tube provides a stable anchor for the ornament.
The first end of the tube may include a cutting edge around a periphery of the tube. The cutting edge permits the tube to cut through hard packed snow.
The ornamental portion preferably includes a flange arranged to extend over a surface of the snow when the anchoring portion is engaged in the snow for concealing the anchoring portion in use.
The ornamental portion may comprise a flat disc of a diameter greater than a width of the anchoring portion. When the ornamental portion comprises a disc and the anchoring portion comprises a cylindrical tube, the cylindrical tube is preferably axially aligned with the disc wherein the cylindrical tube is arranged to mount the disc on an end thereof.
There may be provided a hat arranged to receive the plurality of ornaments therein when not in use such that the hat forms a container.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate an exemplary embodiment of the present invention:
Figure 1 is a front isometric view of a snowman with the snowman kit mounted thereon.
Figures 2 and 3 are respective front and rear isometric views of one of the facial or body ornaments.
Figure 4 is enlarged isometric view of the ornamental portion of one of the eyes.
Figure 5 is an isometric view of the pipe included in the snowman kit.
Figure 6 is an isometric view of the nose included in the snowman kit.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Referring to the accompanying drawings, there is illustrated a snowman kit generally indicated by the reference numeral 10. The snowman kit is for use in decorating a conventional snowman 12 made of snow.
The snowman kit 10 includes a variety of ornaments which can be mounted on the snowman 12. There is provided a hat 14 having a crown portion and a brim portion 18 arranged to sit on the snowman's head. In alternative arrangements the hat may be in the form of a bucket or a flower pot appropriately decorated with ribbon and the like. In either case, the hat is arranged to form a container for components of the snowman kit when the kit is not is use.
A pair of eyes 20 are provided. Each eye 20 as shown in Figures 3 and 4 includes an ornamental portion 22 and an anchoring portion 24. The ornamental portion 22 is in the form of a flat circular disc having a front face 26 for displaying a design 28 thereon. The design 28 is in the form of a snowflake such that the front face 26 resembles an eye.
The anchoring portion 24 is in the form of a cylindrical tube member 30 axially aligned with the ornamental portion 22 and arranged to penetrate the snow.
The cylindrical tube member 30 is of a diameter almost equal to yet remaining smaller than that of the flat disc of the ornamental portion thus defining a flange portion 31 about a periphery of the ornamental portion. The large diameter of the tube maximises the stability of the anchoring portion as it penetrates the snow while the anchoring portion remain hidden from view by the flange portion 31 once the anchoring portion is fully penetrated and the flange portion extends over a surface of snow surrounding the anchoring portion.
The cylindrical tube member 30 has a first end 32 including a cutting edge about a periphery of the tube for engaging and penetrating the snow and a second end 34 arranged to mount the ornamental portion thereon with glue or other suitable fastening means. The cutting edge suitable for cutting through hard packed snow.
A set of three buttons 36 are provided as shown in Figure 2. Each button 36 includes an ornamental portion 22 and an anchoring portion 24 identical to the eyes 20. The ornamental portion 22 of the buttons 36 includes the front face 26 and the flange portion 31 as previously described for concealing the anchoring portion when the anchoring portion is penetrated into the snow. The design 28 however is replaced with a design 38 which resembles a pair of stitches fastening the button in place.

A set of three mouth pieces 40 are also provided as shown in Figure 1.
The mouth pieces 40 are identical to the eyes 20 and the buttons 36 with the exception that designs 28 and 38 on the front face be removed. The front face of the mouth pieces 40 are appropriately textured and coloured to resemble coal.
A nose 42 as shown in Figure 6 is provided having an ornamental portion 44 and an anchoring portion 46. The anchoring portion 46 is in the form of a cylindrical tube member 48 similar to the tube member 30. The cylindrical tube member 48 includes a first end 50 forming a cutting edge for penetrating the snow and a second end 52 arranged to receive the ornamental portion 44 therein.
The ornamental portion 44 of the nose is in the form of a solid conical member having a base 54 of suitable diameter for engaging an inner surface of the anchoring portion 46 and an apex 56 being rounded and arranged to resemble a carrot.
The snowman kit 10 includes a scarf 58 to be tied around the snowman's neck.
In a further embodiment, there is also provided a pair of mittens 60 and a pipe 62. The pipe 62 is arranged to resemble a corncob pipe. The pipe 62 includes a cylindrical main portion 64 having a bore 66 extending downwards from a top side 68. A stem 70 extends radially outwards from the cylindrical main portion 64 near a bottom end 72.
In some embodiments of the present invention the components of the snowman kit may be biodegradable or made of recycled material.
While some embodiments of the present invention have been described in the foregoing, it is to be understood that other embodiments are possible within the scope of the invention. The invention is to be considered limited solely by the scope of the appended claims.
