Description
The patent we are seeking relates to the packing of plastic milk bags.
A number of milk bags usually two or three are put into a large plastic milk bag, as per drawing "A" We call it a "milk carrying bag".
For example, three soft plastic milk bags of one litre each go together in a larger (carrying bagJ
plastic bag.
It is secured near the top with a small hard plastic tab.
Currently, the milk carrying bag is of uniform thickness.
Our patent application improves the carrying bag by making three improvements.
A) The area where the tab is put gets a lot of friction. Therefore, it must be thick so that it will withstand the friction without wearing and thus causing a hole (rip).
Other areas of the bag require much less strength.
However, since the material thickness of the bag is uniform throughout, the rest of the bag also has to be thick.
Our method is to make the top of the bag thicker than the rest of the bag, i.e., there will be two thicknesses to the bag. The top (thick) and the bottom (thin) thus reducing the total weight needed and therefore a material cost saving.
B) When the plastic carrying bag is filled with the three plastic milk bags, it is torn off the metal holder that is used in the packaging process. (See drawing "B" ) The result is that the consumer gets a plastic cover with a torn area.
In our application, the carrying bag is removed by tearing off at the perforation level. The top of the plastic carrying bag is clean and neat.
C) In traditional bags, the bottom in the front and back meet together at a sharp point.
In our application, the cover bag does not come to a sharp point. There is extra material, in the form of a gusset, to allow the contours of the three individual milk bags to fit in a natural way and without space wastage. Also, the total bag filled with the three one litre milk bags, will be able to stand on a flat surface. Such as a table, since the bottom will be flat. This will also help in storing on the store shelves. (See drawing "C" ) We submit that present milk carrying bags worldwide do not have any of the above three features that constitute a practical and useful improvement.
We apply for a patent that incorporates these three improvements either individually or two of the three or all three improvements. (See drawing "D" )
