Abstract
An automated apparatus for the cleaning of vehicle wheels where the tire seats therein, the apparatus comprising a system for capturing and holding the wheel, 1st and 2nd abrasive brushes for cleaning the vehicle wheels, each first and second electric motors for driving the first and second abrasive brushes respectively, each motor being mounted on a moveable piece to move the brush into and outof operative position, and a cover mounted over the apparatus. The system can be completely automated and would also have a vacuum device for removing particles from within the housing.
Description
WHEEL - BRUSHING MACHINE
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an automated device allowing the cleaning of vehicle wheels which are typically made of steel or an alloy in the area of the tire seat.
It is known in the case of vehicle wheel cleaning devices to use a system that does not allow the user to leave the device while it is in operation or that the operator must manually position the abrasive brush on the wheel of the vehicle. Furthermore, no system known to applicant offers a quick and secure wheel capturing method; the wheel is usually unstable and could even move when being brushed. Other systems that do exist can scratch the wheel if handled by a negligent operator.
SLIl'vIMARY OF THE INVENTION
We have realised that it is desirable for the user of the system to be able to keep busy with other tasks during the operation of the device. Accordingly, there is provided a motorized system for capturing the wheel which allows stable and constant rotation of the wheel. In addition, the positioning system and the rotating system of the brush will allow the operator to position the brush only once for every four wheel sequence. The operator installs the wheel in the machine, positions the brush and starts the device. While the wheel is being brushed while rotating, the operator may undertake other tasks. This wheel capturing system prevents any scratching on the wheel.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Having thus generally described the invention, reference will be made to the accompanying drawings ilustrating an embodiment thereof, in which:
Figure 1 is a front plan view of the invention;
Figure 2 is a side plan view of the invention;
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the invention.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
The automated device includes two electric motors 1, one of these two electric motors 1 being mounted on a pivoting base 2. This pivoting base 2 is then mounted on a linear guide 3, allowing for a linear movement towards the wheel, such linear movement being achieved by means of a continuous thread screw and a crank (4) having a rotational axis which is parallel to the linear movement of the pivoting base. The second electric motor 1 is also mounted on a pivoting base which is in turn mounted on a linear guide with two axis 6, the linear movements being achieved by means of a continuous thread screw and cranks 7. The pivoting bases can pivot by means of a pneumatic jack 8 which permits the adjustment of the pressure of abrasive brushes 9 on a wheel 10. The abrasive brushes 9 are mounted on the cam shaft of the electric motors 1. The automated device includes a means for receiving and retaining a wheel which includes two rollers 11 fixed with respect to translatory movement but unrestricted for a rotation movement. The rollers 11 are mounted on ball bearings and are motorised with the help of a chain 12 and an electric motor 13. The two rollers support the weight of wheel 10. Two other rollers 14 are positioned above the wheel and capture it to allow for a stable rotation of the wheel, the linear movement of these two rollers is made by a pneumatic jack 15 mounted behind the device. These two rollers are mounted on a vertical linear guide 16. The metallic housing of device 17 serves as a "plenum" that allows particles and dust created as a result of the brushing to be sucked out through aperture 18 at the base of the device. A sliding door 19 is connected to the wheel capturing system to automatically open and close to seal the operator cockpit during the
