Abstract
A floral organ-specific promoter sequence which enables genetic manipulation of pistil or lodicule; and a novel chitinase expressed specifically in the floral organ and its gene. The above promoter sequence is contained in the sequence consisting of the 1st base to the 1234th base in the base sequence represented by SEQ ID NO:2 in the Sequence Listing. This promoter sequence further involves those suffering from the deletion, substitution, insertion or addition of one or more nucleotides in the above sequence and having the floral organ-specific promoter activity, and those identified with the use of the base sequence of the Sequence Listing (I) as a probe and having the floral organ-specific promoter activity. The floral organ-specific chitinase described above has the base sequence of from the 114th to the 1097th bases in the base sequence represented by SEQ ID NO:1 in the Sequence Listing.
Also, it involves DNA sequences consisting of a part of the base sequence, or those suffering from the deletion, substitution, insertion or addition of one or more nucleotides in the above base sequence and encoding a protein having a biological activity equivalent to that of the protein encoded by the DNA consisting of the above base sequence. The above-mentionned floral organ-specific chitinase has the amino acid sequence represented by SEQ ID NO:3 in the Sequence Listing. It also involves amino acid sequences consisting of a part of the amino acid sequence, or those suffering from the deletion, substitution, insertion or addition of one or more amino acids in the above sequence and constituting a protein having a biological activity equivalent to that of the protein consisting of the above amino acid sequence.
