COMPOSITION MOUSSANTE A BASE D'EAU - PROCEDE DE
FABRICATION
WATER-BASED FOAMING COMPOSITION - PROCESS FOR
MANUFACTURING
s The present invention relates to an aqueous foam composition consisting of an optimized combination of surfactants and polymers water-soluble. The applications of such a foam according to the present invention 1o are various, for example for body care, applications agricultural, Fire fighting, underground work, such as consolidation of the Soils and operations in wells drilled in the sub-soi: drilling, treatment tanks. s, hydrocarbon production.
The use of aqueous foam to replace a fluid of Is wells circulating through a pipe liner descended into a well drilled in the ground. In some cases, the density of the aqueous fluid used is too big for the nature of the rock, creating pressure too much hydrostatic with respect to the fracturing resistance of rocky areas traversed by drilling. We then choose to use fluid 2o aqueous density decreased by the introduction of gas and we try to homogenize the fluid thus lightened by creating a foam, the most stable possible, in order to have at least sufficient cleaning power of the cuttings.
Document US Pat. No. 5,513,712 describes a drilling method in which uses a foam comprising a non-crosslinked acrylamide polymer and A surfactant, but does not disclose a stable foaming composition and optimized through obtaining a -. synergy between a polymer and a specific surfactant.

The present invention will be better understood and its advantages will appear more clearly on reading the tests, which are by no means described below.
The tests are based mainly on comparison, for different foam compositions, of the following two measurements:
the volume of VM foam formed from a given volume of foaming solution and defined stirring conditions, which allows characterize the foaming capacity of the solution, - the VD drainage rate which makes it possible to characterize the stability formed foam.
The viscosity was measured at the Newtonian plateau, using a low gradient viscometer.
Operating mode:
2o The foaming solution is constituted by, at least, a mixture of at least less a surfactant with variable concentration, at least one polymer water soluble also in varying concentration, and water. The pH is adjusted to about 9 for all tests. The foam is obtained from 200 mI of foaming solution by stirring with a whisk. The speed of rotation is set at 200.0 rpm. Generally, the stirring time is about 2 minutes, which is sufficient to obtain a homogeneous foam, as well as maximum volume.
WO 98126864 PCT / FR9'7102186 To measure the drainage rate, characteristic of the stability of the foam, the resulting foam is poured into a graduated glass funnel and the volume of drained solution is recorded as a function of time. The speed of drainage is defined from the empirical equation qixi described evolution of Drilling Curves (Bikerman JJ 1973):
V = Vp (1-exp (-kt)) V the drained volume (cm3) Vp the volume of the initial solution (cm3) t time (minute) From this equation, k is determined, flow constant (Min-1) We define the drainage rate VD by VD = kVp / 2 (cm3 / nün.) The lower the VD, the more stable the foam.

This test shows that for concentrations of surfactant DoTAB
less than or equal to approximately 5.10-3 molli, it is impossible to form a stable foam even in the presence of a certain polymer concentration of polyacrylamide type.
From 20 × 10 -3 mol / l of surfactant, the foam formed in the presence Polyacrylamide polymer is more stable than in the absence of polymer.
This is mainly due to the increase in the viscosity of the composition foaming, as the viscosity measurements confirm.

From and above 5.10-3 mol / 1 of concentration in surfactant, the foam is not formed because there is precipitation, lo probably because of the strong interactions between the polymer charged and the surfactant. However, a test with a polymer of the type AM / AMPS-75/25 shows the importance of the opposite charges between surfactant and polymer to form a foaming composition.
With a less charged polymer, AM / AMPS-90/10 type 10% load), it is found that the foam is produced for concentrations less than 5.10-3 mol of surfactant, as for the polymer with 25%
charge, but for a surfactant concentration of approximately 5.10-3 mol / l, the foaming composition is very optimized since we obtain a volume of large and very stable foam due to low drainage speed measured.
With respect to the foam formed from a polyacrylamide polymer (Test 2), the foam volume is comparable, but with a quantity of four times less surfactant and, moreover, by obtaining a better stability.

The foam formed with a concentration of 5.10-4 mol / l of DoTAB and 750 ppm of CMC, is very stable. It is verified that an excessive concentration of surfactant is harmful to the formation of a foam, presumably because of too much ~ strong interactions between the polymer and the surfactant.

By increasing the polymer concentration (750 ppm to 1500 ppm), the foam formed as more stable. Given the strong interactions between polymer and surfactant, ~ o the concentration of surfactant should be adapted to the concentration of polymer used, or vice versa. In this example, we can determine a optimum surfactant concentration of about 10-3 mol / l and for a polymer concentration of between 100 and 1000 ppm.
This example clearly demonstrates the synergy between the surfactant and the polymer and how to optimize the foaming solution.
