Description

The shelter's Twin Head Reversible Zipper (f7) is opened simultaneously to the upper left and lower right to allow entry into the shelter. At that time the user may locate his/her personal equipment in the top area of Fig. 1.
Upon entry into the shelter the user assumes a position so that their face is within the confines of the No SeeUm Mesh (fZ).
The user reaches up out of the shelter with both hands to lift and set the Face Vent Flap (fl) into a position that allows unrestricted air inflow without allowing for debris or moisture entry. The user "sets" f1 into place by pressing it down and causes the upper 3/4" Hook and Loop Fastener (f3) to make contact with the bottom 3/4" Hook and Loop Fastener (f3).
At any time (especially when raining/snowing) during the use of the shelter the user can readjust the setting of the face vent flap (fl) by opening the zipper (f7) and reversing the above procedure and "pinching" the corners of the Vent Flap (fl) inward.
The user then withdraws their arms inside the shelter and closes the zipper (f7) by moving the lower left zipper head up to the upper right zipper head. The Zipper Flap (f8) closes automatically.
The user then grasps the interior sides of the shelter and pulls them upward until contact is made with the users feet and the bottom of the shelter (Fig. 2). The user then gently, but firmly presses against the Foot Vent (Fig. 2) to open it. The user then removes their footwear and places it against the left and right ends of Fig. 2 and gently pushes the shelter out to full extension.
The user pushes directly upwards on the bottom of the No SeeUm Vent Mesh (f2) so as to allow the neck drapes (f5 & f6) to extend straight down. They then position themselves so that their shoulders are directly under the drapes (f5 & f6), and their neck aligns with the drape overlap. The user gently lowers the drapes so that they rest upon the shoulders and the excess drape slides toward the top of the ULPS 1 shelter (f9) along both sides of the users neck.
The user then rearranges their equipment inside the shelter to allow the face vent area (f2) to be suspended at a distance of 3 to 5 inches above the users face.
In standard range temperatures it may be necessary to remove the left and right neck drapes (f5 & f6). This is accomplished by gently pulling on each drape from their opposite ends. Once removed they are to be attached to each other by pressing them together at the Hook and loop seams (f3) and folded or rolled together and stored in the upper area of f9.
In lower range temperatures it is recommended that the neck drapes be left intact or reattached. This achieved by opening the shelter (f9) and reversing the upper area of the shelter to expose the 3/4" hook and loop (f3) located there, matching the drapes and pressing them into place.
For deployment in Desert or Barren conditions during daylight hours.
The user may, by taking a sharp edged knife, split the seams of the shelter (f9) on three sides (top, left side and bottom), taking care to cut through the centre of the No SeeUm Mesh located within the foot vent (Fig. 2) and spreading the shelter out with the coloured side facing upwards.
The user may then erect the shelter as if it were a tarpaulin to ward off the harmful effects of the sun's Ultra-Violet and Infra-Red emissions, especially where the Standard Temperature Range is at or exceeds 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
To reassemble the shelter (f9) for nighttime deployment, the user carefully aligns the cut seams and seals them into place (on the outside) through the application of Duct Tape.
Special care must be used when re-aligning and sealing the No SeeUm Mesh (fZ) located in the Foot Vent (Fig. 2), in that the Duct Tape must be cut in half along its length before being applied to the Mesh (fZ).
For deployment for the treatment of Hypothermia.
The shelter (f9), is deployed as normal and the Hypothermia victim is placed within leaving the Face Vent Flap (fl), and the Foot Vent (Fig. 2) at full open and the Zipper (f7) 3/4 closed at the lower right side.
For treatment the victim can be placed on their right side in a semi-fetal position and a second user positioned behind them so as to match or "spoon" with the victim.
The victim can also be placed within the shelter face up, and extra clothing or blankets placed over them (as per proper hypothermia treatment instruction). Additional heat sources, such as chemical heat packs are then strategically placed at the victims feet, knees, torso and neck/shoulder areas and replaced or removed as required.

The embodiments of the invention in which exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
In claim 1, the lightweight material of which the shelter is constructed is exclusive to any designs by Pacific Environments Outdoor Research Inc., including this shelter.
In claim 2, the use of an adjustable face flap and vent that includes a mesh to prevent the intrusion of insects, debris and precipitation is unique to the ULPS 1.
In claim 3, the use of neck drapes to allow the user to increase breathability while maintaining a high level of radiant heat for the rest of the body.
In claim 4, use of a diagonal zipper to provide ease of entry (e.g.
hypothermia victims) and a protective flap to protect the zipper from the effects of debris, freezing rain/snow and loss of heat.
In claim 5, the oversize of the shelter itself allows for equipment storage and/or two person usage.
In claim 6, the foot vent with insect repelling mesh, provides for air outflow to prevent overheating and condensation buildup.
In claim 1, the lightweight material of which the shelter is constructed is exclusive to any designs by Pacific Environments Outdoor Research Inc., including this shelter.
