Abstract
A cleaning device for fondue forks comprises a tubular housing adapted to allow passage of a cleaning fluid therethrough and a scrubbing element, such as steel wool or plastic fibers, mounted in the housing whereby a fondue fork may be reciprocally moved through the scrubbing element while a cleaning fluid is circulated to clean the fork.
Description
TITLE OF THE INVENTION
Cleaning device for fondue forks.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention pertains to a device for cleaning fondue forks.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
It has been found that fondue forks are not satisfactorily cleaned when placed in a dish washing machine. Due to the particular configuration of the food engaging end of the fork, there often remains some food stuck to the fork.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of the present invention is to provide a device which allow dirty fondue forks to be adequately cleaned.
This object is achieved by providing a cleaning device which comprises a tubular housing that is adapted to allow passage of a cleaning fluid therethrough and a scrubbing element mounted in at least a portion of the tubular housing whereby a fondue fork which is reciprocally moved through the scrubbing element while a cleaning fluid is circulated through the housing is scrubbed and cleaned.
The scrubbing element may be steel wool or plastic fibers.
Other objects and further scope of applicability of the present invention will become apparent from the detailed description given hereinafter. It should be understood, however, that this detailed description, while indicating preferred embodiments of the invention, is given by way of illustration only, since various changes and modifications within the spirit and scope of the invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the use of the cleaning device with a fondue fork in accordance with the present invention; and Figure 2 is a cross-sectional view of the cleaning device.
DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
Referring to figure 1, there is shown a cleaning device, generally denoted 10, made in accordance with the present invention for cleaning fondue forks, such as the one illustrated as 12, which includes a handle portion 14 and a fork food engaging end 16.
The cleaning device 10 comprises a tubular housing 18 having an open end 20 and an opposite end 22 which, in the present embodiment, consists of a bottom wall having a plurality of openings 24 such that liquid, preferably mixed with detergent, introduced through the end 20 will egress through the openings 24 at the opposite end 22.
In one form of the invention, the tubular housing 18 includes therewithin steel wool 26 covering at least a portion of the inner chamber of the tubular housing 18. The steel wool may or may not be fixed to the inner wall of the housing; however, it should preferably be fixed in cases where the opposite end 22 of the housing is an open end (without a perforated wall).
On the other hand, it may not be necessary to fix the steel wool to the inner wall in cases where end 22 is a perforated wall. Also, in cases where the steel wool is not fixed to the inner wall, the housing may be subsequently re-used with a new package of steel wool.

In another form of the invention, the scrubbing element may consist of a plurality of rigid or semi-rigid plastic fibers that may be either fixed to the inner wall of the housing or freely mounted therein.
The material of the tubular housing should be water resistant, especially in those cases where it is intended to use the apparatus more than once.
Although the invention has been described above with respect with one specific form, it will be evident to a person skilled in the art that it may be modified and refined in various ways. It is therefore wished to have it understood that the present invention should not be limited in scope, except by the terms of the following claims.
