Abstract

A system and method of matching hydraulic outlets on a tractor with the appropriate hoses on a tractor implement is disclosed. The system comprises an identifying plate which is a schematic representation of the hydraulic outlet panel of a tractor and coded labels for use with the identifying plate and the implement hoses.

Description

TRACTOR HYDRAULICS MATCHING SYSTEM
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a system for matching the hydraulic outlets on a tractor with corresponding implement hoses.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Modern farm tractors have multiple controls for hydraulically actuated devices which may be hitched to the tractor and are commonly referred to as implements. There are many different implements manufactured and sold by different manufacturers which may be hitched to a tractor to perform different functions. Air seeders and discers are two examples of such implements.
It is necessary to hook up the implement hoses with the appropriate hydraulic outlets on the tractor to ensure that the correct controls are matched with the correct function of the implement. Typically, the tractor operator will hook up the hoses through a process of trial and error which is an inefficient and unduly lengthy process.
One solution found in the prior art is to label each outlet on the tractor hydraulic panel, however, the outlets are subject to oil leaks and dirt accumulation. The labels may become obscured or fall off in short order.
There is therefore a need in the art for a permanent hose matching system which is convenient, adapts to any tractor and any implement, regardless of the manufacturer and is inexpensive and simple to use.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
In general terms, the invention in one aspect comprises a system for matching tractor hydraulic controls on a outlet panel with implement hoses, said system comprising:
(a) an identifying plate, attachable to a visible location on the tractor, wherein said plate is a schematic representation of the outlet panel of the tractor;
(b) a plurality of coded outlet labels which may be affixed to the identifying plate;
(c) a plurality of coded hose labels which may be affixed to the implement hoses;
wherein the coded labels uniquely identify each outlet and the coded hose labels may be matched to the appropriate coded label.
In another aspect of the invention, the invention comprises a method of matching tractor hydraulic controls with implement hoses, said method comprising the steps of:
(a) providing a schematic representation of a outlet panel wherein each outlet is uniquely identified on the representation;
(b) mounting the representation on a visible location on the tractor;
(c) labelling each implement hose with a coded hose label such that the code identifies the matching outlet identifier; and (d) attaching each implement hose to the matching outlet by matching the hose label with the outlet identifier.
The code used to match the hose labels to the outlet labels or identifiers is preferably a colour code. The outlet labels and the hose labels are preferably weatherproof decals.
The schematic representation may be permanently mounted to the tractor in a visible location. What is essential and unique to the present invention is that the schematic representation does not change when different implements are used with the tractor because each set of hoses on each implement will have been matched and coded to the permanent schematic representation. Therefore, any number of different implements compatible with the tractor may be used with this matching system.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING
The sole appended Figure is a view of the identifying plate, the hydraulic outlet panel on a tractor and implement hoses.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The invention in general terms comprises an identifying plate (10), a plurality of coded outlet labels (12) which may be affixed to the identifying plate and a plurality of coded hose labels (14).
A typical hydraulic outlet panel (16) of tractor is shown in Figure 1, together with an identifying plate ( 10) of the preferred embodiment. The identifying plate ( 10) schematically represents the outlet panel (16) by identifying each outlet (18) with a circle (20) on the plate (10).
The first step in using the within system is to assign each outlet identifier (20) with a unique code, preferably a colour. This is done in the preferred embodiment by affixing a coloured outlet label (12) or decal to each outlet identifier (20).
Once each outlet ( 18) is identified by a coloured label ( 12) on the identifying plate ( 10), the plate ( 10) may be permanently affixed to the tractor. Preferably, the plate (10) is affixed to a location which is easily seen while working with the outlet panel (16) but is also out of the way so that fluid spills and leaks cannot reach the plate ( 10) and cause it damage.
The first time a particular implement is used with this system, the user must match up the implement hoses (22) with the correct outlets (18) manually. Once all the hoses (22) are attached in proper working order, then hose labels (14) are attached to the implement hoses (22) using the same colour hose label (14) as the matching outlet label.
The matching and hose labelling steps must be repeated for each implement the first time it is used with the tractor.
Once an implement has been used and its hoses (22) labelled, subsequently hooking up the implement and matching the hoses (22) to the outlets (18) is a simple matter of matching up the hose labels (14) with the outlet labels (12).
In cases where multiple implements are used with one tractor, the hose labels (14) may be used to identify the proper hoses (22) to be coupled together from one implement to another.
The outlet labels (12) are preferably brightly coloured circular decals which have an adhesive backing and are weatherproof. The hose labels (14) are preferably brightly coloured decal strips with an adhesive backing which are also weatherproof.
The hose labels may be wrapped around each hose to permanently attach it to the hose. Of course, colour coding may be replaced with letter, number or pattern coding with equally functional results.
As will be apparent to those skilled in the art, various modifications, adaptations and variations of the foregoing specific disclosure can be made without departing from the teachings of the present invention.
