Abstract
By using a specially designed body harness, holster, and clasp, an umbrella can be worn firmly on the body, thereby, freeing up the hands from holding the umbrella.
Description
SPECIFICATION
This invention relates to hands-free operation of an umbrella by using a specially designed harness, holster, and clasp, to hold the umbreAa firmly to the body.
Typically the use of an umbrella requires committing one hand to hold the umbrella.
However, sometimes people, while in the rain, often require both hands to perform various functions such as work, carry things, and leisure pursuits.
I have found that this disadvantage may be overcome by securing the umbrella firmly to the body with a harness, holster, and clasp.
The umbrella harness is a system of straps worn on the shoulders, spanning behind the back and also around the waist and fastening at the front of the body. There is a holster attached to the harness at the waist level to hold the base, or handle, of the umbrella, and a clasp at the chest level on either the right or left side, which secures the shaft of the umbrella to the harness. The umbrella is therefore worn at the side of the body, shifted slightly towards the front (see figure 1 ).
The uses of the umbrella harness are many and inGude:
Workin : Flagging crews, sandbagging, photography and video equipment, writing on a clipboard, using a shovel or a broom, surveyors.
Carrying things: Groceries, briefcase, cell phone, children.
Leisure pursuits: Hiking, backpacking, fishing, spectators.
Elderly and handicapped: using cane, motor chair, white cane, crutches, wheelchair, also for providing shade.
To use: Put on harness, open umbrella, place base in holster (fig.2). Then, wrap the Gasp around the shaft of the umbrella (fig. 3) and secure. To remove- open clasp and remove the base of the umbrella from the holster. The umbrella is immediately removed.
