Abstract

As a coating element, in particular for sheet panels in vehicles, a single-piece hollow profile (1) obtained by a blowing process and designed to be replaceably mounted on the sheet panel (2) is disclosed. The hollow profile has securing elements (3) on its rearface, recesses for them being provided in said sheet panel, as well as an arrangement of profile batches on its length.
The securing elements may be inserted into the hollow space, which is filled with foam. The inventive device ensures, especially after filling the hollow space with foam, adequate energy absorption so that any impact causes in principle no distortion of the hollow profile.

Covering part, in partic~lar ~or sheet. ~etal supportiny pa~ts in motor vehicles ~he invention relates to a covering p~rt, in p~ticul~r for sheet~metal supporting parts ln motor ~ehic~les.

S~ety ~egulation3 in the motor vehicl.e in~ustry require enerqy-a~or~ing material~ to be arranged in those int~xnal regions which a~e at risk ~rom h~ad impact, to reduce the ris~
o~ in~ury. To satis~y these requirements ~i~bag -t~stem3 or coverings p~oduced by injection molding are arranged in the region~ at ri~kr the coverings be~ng ~acke~ ~y a s~itable foam syste~. The i~stallation o~ the elem~nt~ ~roduce~ ~rom a plurality o~ parts ~y ~n~ection molding is time consuming, the ~S tran~ition regiQn~ between the p~stic~ par~ ~nd the ~oa~ paxt being associated with optical restrictions.

The invention ls ~at~e~ on the object o~ designing a covering - part, in par~i~lar ~or ~heet-metal suppor~ing p~rts ~n motor vehicles, in ~uch a manner that insta]la~ion is simpli~ied while, a~ the ~me ~ime, t~e ~orptio~ o~ energ~ is sati~actory_ A~cor~ing to the invention, this object is achieved by a ~s single-p~ ece, pro~ile~ hollow sectio~ which is produced by blow mol~ing an~ can be secured ex~hangeabl~ o~ the sheet~
metal ~pporting part. To ~ac~litate th~ fastening, the r~r side o~ the hollow section can have ~a3tening elements ~o which corresponding so~ke~s a~e ~ig~ed in the sheet-~et~l supporting part. ~here i3 the option o~ integrating ~he ~astening ele~ents in the hollow section. I~ this is the case, ~he ~as~ening elements can be pl~ced ~nto the mold ~nd encapsulated by ~low molding.
