Abstract

A new therapeutic toilet seat for providing greater comfort for people with various health conditions. The inventive device includes a toilet seat defined by a central opening therethrough for positioning over a toilet bowl. The toilet seat has a space formed at a rear portion thereof. Ends of the toilet seat forming the space are beveled. A lower surface of the toilet seat has a plurality of spacers disposed thereon for elevating the toilet seat above the toilet bowl.

BACKGROUND Oh' THE INVENTION
Field of the Invention The present invention relates to toilet seats and more particularl pertains to a new therapeutic toilet seat for providing greater comfort for people with various health conditions.
IS Description of the Prior Art The use of toilet scats is known in the prior art. More specifically, toilet scats heretofore devised anti utilized arc known to consist basically of familiar, expected and obvious structural ~() ce~nfiguratirms, noW withstanding the myriad of designs encompassed by the crowded prior art which have hecn developed for the fulfillment of countless objectives and reduircments.
Known prior art toilet seats include U. S. Patent No.

Patent No. 5.311.617 to Amrnatelli et al.: U.S. Patent Nu. -t,~457,0?9 to Matthews: U.S. Patent No. 4,189,794 to Aleman-Mucivo: and U_S. Patent No. Des. ?70,015 to Knight.

While these devices fulfill their respective, particular objectives and requirements, the aforementioned patents do not disclose a new therapeutic toilet seat. The inventive device ~ includes a toilet seat defined by a central opening therethrough for positioning over a toilet bowl. The toilet seat has a space formed at a rear portion thereof. Ends of the toilet scat forming the space are beveled. A lower surface of the toilet scat has a plurality of spacers disposed thereon for elevating the toilet seat above the toilet bowl.
In these respects, the therapeutic toilet seat according to the (resent invention substantially departs from the conventional concepts and designs of the prior art, and in so doing provides an apparatus primarily developed for the purpose of providing greater IS ~wrofort for people with various health conditions.

To attain this, the present invention generally comprises a toilet seat having a generally circular configuration. The toilet seat is defined by a central opening therethrough for positioning over a toilet bowl. The toilet seat has a space formed at a rear portion thereof. The space has a width of at least two inches. Ends of the toilet seat forming the space are beveled. A lower surface of the toilet seat has a plurality of spacers disposed thereon for elevating the toilet seat above the toilet bow(. A hinge bar is secured to the rear portion of the toilet seat and spans the space. The hinge bar has a pair of brackets extending outwardly therefrom for securement to the toilet bowl. A toilet lid is provided. The toilet lid is dimensioned for covering the toilet seat. A rear edge of the toilet lid is hingedlv secured to the hinge bar of the toilet seat.

It is a further object of the present invention to provide a new ,i therapeutic toilet seat which is of a durable and reliable construction.
An even further object of the present invention is to provide a new therapeutic toilet seat which is susceptible of a low cost of manufacture with regard to both materials and labor, and which accordingly is then susceptible of low prices of sale to the consuming public, thereby making such therapeutic toilet seat economically available to the buying public.
Still yet another object of the present invention is to provide a new therapeutic toilet seat which provides in the: apparatuses and t5 methods of the prior art some of the advantages thereof, while simultancouslv overcoming some of the disadvantages normally associated therewith.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a ~(1 new therapeutic toilet seat for providing greater comfort for people with various hc;tlth conditions.
Yet another object of the present invcrttion is to provicic a new therapeutic toilet seat which includes a toilet scat defined by a ~5 central opening therethrough for positioning over a toilet fowl. The toilet scat has a space formed at a rear portion thereof. Ends of the toilet scat forming the space are beveled. A lower surface of the toilet scat has a plurality of spacers disposed thereon for elevating the toilet scat above the toilet bowl.
These together with other objects of the invention, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the invention, are pointed oui with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure. For a better understanding of the invention, its operating advantages and the specific objects attained by its uses, reference should be made to the accompanying drawings and descriptive matter in which there are illustrated preferred embodiments of the invention.

A hinge bar 20 is secured to the rear portion of the toilet seat I2 and spans the space 16. The hinge bar 2O has a pair of brackets 22 extending outwardly therefrom for securement to the toilet bowl.
A toilet lid 24 is provided. The toilet lid 24 is dimensioned for covering the toilet seat 12. A rear edge of the toilet lid 24 is hingedly secured to the hinge bar 20 of the toilet seat 12.
The present invention is a modified toilet seat 12 that incorporates a split-back designed to provide greater comfort. The toilet scat 12 is constructed of conventional materials, including plastic, wood, padded versions, and the like. Unlike conventional toilet scats, which arc continuous oval shape, or those versions with a split front commonly found in public facilities, the present invention would position the split or opening IG at the rear portion of the toilet seat 12. This will provide greater comfort to those individuals with conditions of the posterior region including, but ~f) not limited to) tailbone injuries or hemorrhoids, as well as those ,5 with conditions of the lower hack, including sciatica or lumbar conditions. This design is intended to reduce the pressure placed on the body when seated on the toilet, thus reducing pain. discomfort, and straining.
As to a further discussion of the manner of usage anti operation of the present invention, the same should be apparent from the above description. Accordingly, no further discussion relating to the manner of usage and operation will he provided.

With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size. materials, shape, form, _'i function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.
Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction 15 and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable n~e~difications and equivalents may he resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention.

Claims (5)

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows
1. A new therapeutic toilet seat for providing greater comfort for people with various health conditions comprising, in combination:
a toilet seat having a generally circular configuration, the toilet seat defining a central opening therethrough for positioning over a toilet bowl, the toilet seat having a space formed at a rear portion thereof, the space having a width of at least two inches, ends of the toilet seat forming the space being beveled, a lower surface of the toilet seat having a plurality of spacers disposed thereon for elevating the toilet seat above the toilet bowl, a hinge bar secured to the rear portion of the toilet seat and spanning the space, the hinge bar having a pair of brackets extending outwardly therefrom for securement to the toilet bowl;
and a toilet lid dimensioned for covering the toilet seat, a rear edge of the toilet lid hingedly secured to the hinge bar of the toilet seat.
2. A new therapeutic toilet seat for providing greater comfort for people with various health conditions comprising, in combination:

a toilet seat defining a central opening therethrough for positioning over a toilet bowl, the toilet seat having a space formed at a rear portion thereof, ends of the toilet seat forming the space being beveled, a lower surface of the toilet seat having a plurality of spacers disposed thereon for elevating the toilet seat above the toilet bowl.
3. The therapeutic toilet seat as set forth in claim 2 wherein the space has a width of at least two inches.
4. The therapeutic toilet seat as set forth in claim 2 and further including a hinge bar secured to the rear portion of the toilet seat and spanning the space, the hinge bar has a pair of brackets extending outwardly therefrom for securement to the toilet bowl.
5. The therapeutic toilet seat as set forth in claim 4 and further including a toilet lid dimensioned for covering the toilet seat, a rear edge of the toilet lid is hingedly secured to the hinge bar of the toilet seat.
