Abstract

A process for coating a solid with a water-insoluble or slightly water-soluble coating material consisting essentially of a high-viscosity polymer and/or wax and/or grease, or mixtures thereof, comprises dissolving the said coating material in one or more materials selected from among carboxylic acids, carboxylic acid anhydrides, carboxylic acid halides and/or mixtures thereof, to form a low-viscosity "polymer solution", contacting the solid to be coated with the said "polymer solution", and chemically or physically modifying the "polymer solution"
to cause the formation of a coating of increased viscosity.
