Abstract
This invention will enable a device connected to a data network to connect to conventional phone wiring and provide phone service connection to standard phone equipment for communication over a data network.
Description
S~ -rll~ Dr This invention relates to the con~ ion of standard phone devioes for c~ . -~ over a data net~ork. The clevice ~~ill perforrn all of the standard L... t;ons ~o~ with a line card used to cormect a standard phone to a tf~ Ol~e e~h~.\e~ It will provide power to the phone devices. Be able to ring the phone chices. Be able to cletect off hook con~lition Be able to detect Flash hook co- ~:l ;on Be able to s"nd and receive audio i~u,..~L.on in the manner that used with standard le1~ o ~e devices. It will also interact with a computer de~ice to pro~ide an interfaoe for phone service co - - ;colion over a data network ~o~ It Works There ~ill be a Ch ~ c~7tio ~ interfaoe to enable the devioe to c4 ~ ate in a bi~i-~liondl manner v,ith a phone t~pe senice on the data network. This will include all of the call event featur~s that can be ,~ t~ on a regular phone de~ice. This include ser~ices such as providing CLI (calling line i( ) information and call waiting tones.
The wiling ., - ~ r on the de ,ice ~ill use a modular type jack to allow simple patch cord . - r into existing phone ~inng of the t~pe used in North Arnerican hous~x. An adapter can be used to plug into other types of c - ~ - a.
Detailed r ~., Of The P- ~f~ d F
The reverse modem can be an adapter card attached to a ~ device, or section of logic circuitry built into a compute devioe. It will be co ~ t~ on one side to a standard Telephone or a series of standard l~ They can be ~ th~ugh stand~d wiring infiaslr~ that is currently used for ~ ~ ~ting telephones.
~he reverse modem will be ~ - i to a data network which will provide the data for the to the t l ,' - devices. This will include the voice r ~ -ictn and all the ---- i The reverse modem will be able to detect the different states of the phones devioes ct~ t~.~ to it (on hook, off hook and flash hook - ~r 'it ~ -) and be able to provide the servioes to the phone devioes to enable them to operate in a normal manner. This will indude power for the ~ phr~ s ringing pulses, and f ...~ LL d r n ~ion such as CLI ,iata.
Through associated so~ware on the C~ e device, voice C4 .~ n can be ~ l tli- ' ~ with other parties in a manner which is normally ~ d with the use of a tt~ ,ho,~. This would include dialing a person to establish: . - -The software could use the C-t~ d H.323 protocol, or any other protocol for voice co~ r~tion cner a data network.
Fu, Ih.,.l,.olc the device could have multiple c-,~- n. ~ ~. s to allow the co~ ~ lio.- of multiple phones, or phone wiring se~ ..t~ for use in c4~ne~-~to~ with multiple - ' ,: ~-- ' service C0'''~1~0"5 (i.e. different phone lines that can be used by different parties at the same time)
