Abstract

IN A FACE COVERING PROVIDING WARMTH AND PROTECTION, IT IS KNOWN TO BE MADE OF AN OUTER LEATHER DAM FOR WIND, COLD, AIRBORNE DEBRIS KNOWN TO STRIKE THE FACE AND NECK WHEN RECREATING OR WORKING WITH FAST MOVING OPEN VEHICLES OR SPORTS. THIS INVENTION ALSO IS KNOWN BY THE INNER LINER MADE OF NATURAL FIBRE FLANNEL THAT IS DETATCHEABLE, WASHABLE, INTERCHANGEABLE BY MEANS OF 9(NINE) PRESSURE CLOSURES KNOWN AS SNAPS. AND ENGINEERED IN TWO PLY FASHION TO ACHIEVE THE DESIGNED COMFORT OF HAVING NOT ONE OF THE SNAP CLOSURES METAL SURFACES COMES IN CONTACT WITH THE SKIN OF THE WEARER. THIS INVENTION IS KNOWN BY THE TRIANGLE SHAPE AND THE UNIFORMITY OF THE POSITION OF THE SNAPS AS THIS ENABLES ANY LINER TO FIT ANY OUTER LEATHER DAM. THIS INVENTION USES A SERIES OF FOUR ADJUSTMENT SNAPS TO FIX THE ARTICLE ABOUT THE NECK TO THE COMFORT OF THE WEARER. WHILE ALL THE FEATURES COMBINED PRODUCE A DESIGN THAT IS AESTHETICALLY PLEASING

Description

SPECIFICATION

This invention rebtes to protective cowrings for the face and neck that are needed when using fast moving vehicles or engaging in sports that invohe high speed, open air. cold temperature. dust or airbome particulate.

~ bny materials have been introduced to mimic bather, whereas this invention uses bather exclusivly so as to provide the best air dam. Similar bather articles have a fabric liner sewn to the leather. In order to acco",.,.odate sanitary con.ider~tiGns associ~ted v~bth the face, mouth, nose, and neck, the inner bner is washable and interchdnge~' ', made of flannel in two layers to accomodate the design of having no metal come in contact with the face, and using snap cbsures to both adhere the flannel bner to the outer leather dam, and to fasten the entire bandana together at the back of the neck. Many simibr articks use velcro to fasten around the neck and this product is dcsis..cd to avoid the probbm of hair catching in the wlcro fastening.

This invention seeks to provide both protection and comfort, while e-ldl~lisl~ g a ~isual image that is acstl.~ticaUy pleasing.

This invention is directed to a bandana type mask for the face, cheeks and neck, to protect the area from wind. extreme cold, sand, fumes, rain, sbet, insects and o1her airborne debris that is encountered when reor~d1i"g or working with fast moving sports or open vehicks (motorcycks. skiing, horseriding, dune buggy, etc.~. Sanitary conditions arise from the invention covering the mouth and nose. Actions such as smoking or 5nc~.~ill9 can cause a need to wash the bandana. ~ecause of the superior protection qualty of leather is integral to the design of the invention. the characteristiG of being unable to wash leather had to be overcome.
An inner hner was conceiv_d to adhere to the inside of the leather bandana, made of natural fibre flannel, by way of a series of exactiy 9(nine) male/femak pressure closures, cG....,.Gniy cai1ed ~snaps-, with the mab half adhered to the ieather. The snaps femak half is dtlached to the piece of flannel hereinafler caikd the FIRST FLANNEL piece, and lays agains1 the leather, whiie the SECOND Fi~NNEL piece, sewn to the FIRST F~NNEL piece, contacts the face in such a way as no metal comes in contact with the face or neck.
To provide for a preference in tightness around the neck. the closed circu."f~.ence can be adjusted by a series of 4~four~ snaps in a line tha1 are designed, consistent with the liner, so that no metal comes in contact with the back of the neck. Snaps were used to remedy the use of veicro for adjustabk ciosures in the vicinity of any hair as velcro catching in hair is very painful.

i3RAWlN~;S AND ~ESCRIPTION

In drawings which iilustrate enli od;",enls of the invention, Figure 1 is a frontai view of the invention partly exploded. Figure 2 is the femaie snap closure of the fixing adjustment with rivet for easy rebase tag. Figure 3 is the four male snap cbsure adjustment. Figure 4 contains precise measul~r.~ents of the invention. Figure 5 shows the easy rekase tag.

The protective mask illustrated is cG~ .ed of a bather triangte 1 to which is affixed a ,~i,lrorci.,g tab 3 and backing 3a to accGnlodale a hmale fn~ing snap 7 and an eye rive16 through which the easy rebase tag 5 is Ihl ~aded. Tab 3, 3a and tab 4 must be sewn to the triangte 1 before attaching any of the snaps. The femak snaps are desiglldted 7 through 16 and the mab snaps that cG..~s"ond are designated with that number plus an alphabetic lower case 7a,blc,d, 3b, 9b, 1 Ob, etc. Tab 3 and 3a are san~ hed over the left top comer of the triangie, whik tab 4 is sewn to the top right corner so that 1 inch of its 5 inches protrudes past the end. Tab 4 has the four snap hobs punched while tab ~a is intact and sewn to tab 4 afler the snaps are insta~ed.
This covers any hard surface to achieve the design concept of no hard surfaces touching the skin, as does the instaHing of the mab snaps 8a through 1 6a on flannel piece 2a with a l ~x1 ' piece of the same flannel as reinforcement under each male snap on 2a, and then sewing 2b to 2a in such a way that the back of the mak snaps is hidden between the two layers of flannel.
The use of the i"._n1ion is quite simpk, being, attach the flannel bner 2a + 2b to the outer kather dam 1, and fasten the entire invention at the back of the neck by means of the four adjustment positions according to individual comfort. The invention can be brought up to cover the cheeks, nose or mouth, or worn under the chin bvel as conditions dictate.

Claims

THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE PROPERTY OR
PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
CLAIM 1: A protective face and neck bandana that is comprised of a triangle shaped outer leather piece and a similar shaped inner finer that is two ply and natural fiber flannel and attaches to the outer leather piece by means of 9 (nine) pressure snap fasteners allowing the inner liner to be removed easily, changed and washed to remain sanitary considering proximity to the face and nose and mouth.

CLAIM 2: A protective face and neck bandana as defined in claim 1 where the design is such that no metal or hard surface from the snaps comes in contact with the skin and the uniformity of the fastener positions enable any liner to fit any outer leather piece.

CLAIM 3: A protective face and neck bandana as defined in claim 1, which uses a series of four male pressure snap closures to one female pressure snap closure to accomodate adjustment of the circumference of the article when fastened about the neck, and uses a strip of leather that is specially braided to facilitate the removal of the article.
