Abstract

A railroad traffic warning system for alerting a motorist or a maintenance-of-way crew of an approaching train. The system has magnetometer sensor probes (50) along the right-of-way adjacent to a railroad track. These sensor probes (50) provide a signal to a controller unit (32) when the presence of a train is sensed. The system may be powered by a battery, which may be recharged by a solar panel array (40).
