Abstract
A computer peripheral device to attach the multimedia loudspeakers to the computer display monitor consists of two plates which are stuck to the sides of the monitor and that of the speakers by self-adhesive pads.
One of the plate is a metallic plate which is ferromagnetic.
The other is a magnet plate, such as a thin multi-pole rubber-sheet magnet. When the two plates are in contact, they will attract to each other, thus allowing the speaker to attach to the sides of the display monitor.
Due to the fact that the speakers are hold into place by magnetic pads, the device is very simple and the user can install the speakers easily without requiring any tool.
Furthermore, due to the fact that only a smaller portion of the metallic plate is needed to hold the magnetic pad, the users can attach the speakers at any desired level along the side of the display monitor or tilt them at any angle for optimum sound transmission.

Description
S PECI FICAT IONS
1. This invention relates to an attachment device to hold multimedia loudspeakers into a computer display monitor.
1. This invention relates to an attachment device to hold multimedia loudspeakers into a computer display monitor.
2. At present, there is no specially designed devi-ce to hold the multimedia loudspeakers neatly into the monitor.
The speakers are randomly placed on any surface around the display monitor. This could create space problem as surrounding surface is limited. Also, optimum sound transmission is difficult when the loudspeakers do not directly face the user at proper height.
The speakers are randomly placed on any surface around the display monitor. This could create space problem as surrounding surface is limited. Also, optimum sound transmission is difficult when the loudspeakers do not directly face the user at proper height.
3. There are a few ways to tackle these problems. The simplest is to use a kind of mechanical apparatus that, when wrap around or fastened to the display monitor, will provide some kind of support to which loudspeakers can be hold and adjusted. But such a device could not be made cheaply and could be obtrusive.
4. The object of the present invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive magnetic attachment device to attach a pair of multimedia loudspeakers into the side of a computer display monitor. It may serve as the solution to the above mentioned problem. Furthermore, it is a simple and economical device. In this invention, speakers are hold into the sides of the monitor by means of magnet plates and metallic plates.
5. Detailed description Fig 1 is an elevation view of the magnetic attachment device to attach two multimedia computer loudspeakers to a computer display monitor according to the present invention.
Fig 2 is a exploded view of the device.
Fig 3 is a elevation view of the possible different shapes of the metallic plate.
Fig 4 is the view of the various possible positions of the speakers when different metallic plates are used.
According to Fig 1 and Fig 2, a magnetic attachment device to hold multimedia loudspeakers to the sides of a monitor, in accordance with the present invention, is comprised in general of a rectangular metallic plate 10 and a rectangular magnet plate 20.
The metallic plate 10 is made of a ferromagnetic material such as mild steel. The magnet plate 20 is a thin permanent magnet with strong pulling forces such as that made of barium. A thin multi-pole rubber sheet permanent magnet of a few millimeters thick could be used for this purpose.
. , .
These two plates will be attached together by magnetic forces when brought into contact.
The metallic plate 10 is attached to the side of the monitor 40 by a two-sided self-adhesive pad 30. Similarly, the rubber magnet plate 20 is attached to the side of~the loudspeaker 50 by way of the double sided self-adhesive pad 60.
By bringing its side having the stuck magnet plate 20 into contact with the metallic plate 10, the loudspeaker is firmly attached into the monitor.
The second loudspeaker can be attached into the other side of the monitor by the same manner.
Also, the shape of the metallic plate can be varied. It can be round, oval or squared. Furthermore, it can be formed into different letter-like configurations, like L, V, U, N, and M. These configuration might be needed to mount the metallic plate to various types of monitor or television set.
Fig 3 and Fig 4 depicts these different configurations and mounting situations.
VARIATION, OTHER USES AND CLAIMS
While only one embodiment of the present invention has been showed and described, it will be understood that various modifications and changes could be made both at the following levels:
a) the thickness of the metallic plate and that of the permanent magnet plate, b) the fastening means of the plates 10 and 20 to the monitor and loudspeakers, c) the general shape of the plates 10 and 20, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
OTHER USES
Besides multimedia loudspeakers, the above-described invention can be used to hold other external equipment like modems, disk drives, hand held scanners to the sides of the monitor or the main body of the computer.
It can also be used to attach lightweight loudspeakers to a television set.
