Abstract
A device according to the invention can be inserted into a plastic garbage bag and be expanded to the circumference of the bag projecting out higher than the bag height. The expanded device then supports the bag in an open, upright position due to expanded pressure and static allowing refuse to be put in. Once the bag is full, the device can be grasped and slid out with ease, allowing the bag to be fastened closed and disposed of. Not only will it support the bag but it will provide a barrier between refuse inserted and the bag to protect it from damage.
The device may be made of a type of flexible sheet plastic that can be rolled up into a tube, inserted into the bag and expanded, it can be stored rolled with a fastening device or open (flat).

Description
Dennis J. Ruutberg 701-77 Maitland Place Toronto Ontario March 27,1997 March 27,1997 Description of Invention Inventor: Dennis J. Ruutberg Title: Insta-Bin (device to support & protect a garbage bag) This is a simplistic device to be inserted into a plastic garbage bag & be expanded to the circumference of the bag projecting out higher than the bag hight. The expanded device then supports the bag in an open upright position due to expanded pressure & static allowing refuse to be put in. With the insertion of leaves, refuse, ect. the device will have gained added support. Once the bag is full, since the device is higher than the bag, the support can be grasped and slid out with ease, allowing the bag to be fastened closed and disposed of. Not only will it support the bag but it will provide a barrier between refuse inserted & bag to protect it from tares, rips, punctures, ect.
The device will be made of a type of flexible ridged 5~ ~
plastic that can be rolled up into a tube, inserted into the bag & expanded. It can be stored rolled with a fastening device or open (flat). The dimensions of this device will be some what universal but more than one size will be made available to accommodate garden size bags for leaves, twigs, ect. & household green garbage bag size.

Claims (11)
1. A device for use in filling a non self supporting bag, comprising a flexible self supporting sheet, said sheet having a top edge, a bottom edge and two side edges, said sheet having sufficient flexibility to permit non-damaging deformation to the extent that said sheet may be moved to a tubular configuration in which one of said side edges is in substantially registry with the other of said side edges, said sheet further comprising closure means for maintaining said sheet in a tubular condition having a desired diameter.
2. The device of claim 1 wherein said closure means are located adjacent said side edges.
3. The device of claim 2 wherein said closure means include hook and loop fasteners.
4. The device of claim 2 wherein said closure means include buttons and receptacles.
5. The device of claim 2 wherein said closure includes tabs and slots.
6. The device of claim 2 wherein said sheet comprises apertures located substantially adjacent said top edge.
7. The device of claim 2 wherein each of said edges meets an adjacent edge in a smooth curve.
8. The device of claim 1, said sheet made from material having resilience so that said sheet tends to return to an initial configuration when unrestrained.
9. The device of claim 8 wherein said initial configuration is substantially planar.
10. The device of claim 8 wherein said initial configuration comprises a tube having a diameter which is smaller than a desired diameter.
11. A method of supporting a non self-supporting bag for filling, said bag having an effective diameter, comprising the following steps;
coiling a flexible, self-supporting, sheet, said sheet having a top edge, a bottom edge, two side edges and closure means, to a tubular state wherein tube so formed has a diameter less than said effective diameter, placing said sheet in said tubular state into said base, uncoiling said sheet to form a tube having a diameter substantially equal to said effective diameter and thereafter, engaging said closure means to maintain said sheet in said tubular configuration, thereby supporting said bag.
coiling a flexible, self-supporting, sheet, said sheet having a top edge, a bottom edge, two side edges and closure means, to a tubular state wherein tube so formed has a diameter less than said effective diameter, placing said sheet in said tubular state into said base, uncoiling said sheet to form a tube having a diameter substantially equal to said effective diameter and thereafter, engaging said closure means to maintain said sheet in said tubular configuration, thereby supporting said bag.
