Abstract

A syringe actuation device (10) comprises an elastomeric element (26) that is removably attachable to the outlet tip (14) of a syringe (12), and to a grip member (48) that allows the elastomeric element (26) to be pulled distally along the syringe bearer (16) to seat against the distal end of the syringe plunger (18). In first and second embodiments, the elastomeric element (26) is attached between a grommet (22) that fits around the outlet tip (14), and an end cap (24) that engages the distal end of the plunger (18). When the grommet (22) is seated around the outlet tip (14), and the end cap (24) engages the distal end of the plunger (18) with the plunger (18) in its withdrawn position, the elastomeric element (26) is stretched along the syringe (12), biasing the plunger (18) toward its inserted position. As the elastomeric element (26) restores itself to its unstretched configuration, it pushes the plunger (18) into the syringe barrel (16). In the first embodiment, the elastomeric element (26) comprises one or two elastic straps having first (52) and second (54) ends removably securured to the grommet (22), each strap (26) having an intermediate portion secured to an end cap (24).
