Abstract

The invention relates to a wire section for a paper machine comprising a forming cylinder (1), a felt (2) and a wire (3), both wrapping around the forming cylinder (1), with the felt (2) disposed on the inside and the wire (3) on the outside, and forming a gap (4) for receiving a machinewide jet of stock suspension or a pre-dewatered paper web; the forming cylinder has a rotatably mounted perforated shell. The invention is characterized by the following features: at least part of the wraparound zone of the forming cylinder can be pressurized from the inside.

The inventio~ relates to a wire section for a paper In~Ghtne accor~g to the preamble claim 1.
Double ~ire sections a~e hlown in ma~y varia~ts. R~f~el~cc is S made to ~e m~gfl~in~ "Das P~ier," No. lOA, Vol. 1991~ pp. ~ 100 f~.
Accordwg to it, there are so-called roll f~ e,~ us~ exclu~i~,el~

This crea~es a pre-de..~l~g s~etch (~o-called hybnd former). R~ic~lty, ~uch offset b_t~.e~ the c.,lh~cc rolls of the two wire~ are possible also in a mRchin~ w~ veffical sheet ~ormi~g. In most ca~s, ~..~,.~,., l~e two e~c~ rolls, L~ the lattcr type of m~chin~.g~ are located ap~lo~.."Rtely ~ ~c same hu,~4ll~al pla~e.
These m~rhines are also called gap r~ e.~.
Also k~own (U.S. 3,378,435) is ~ a w~re and a felt, i~ of 20 two ~res, Bo~ belt~ wr~ aro~d the form~Ilg ~li-ld~r. The felt i8 disposed on t~e inside in the wl~p&~u~d, i.e., directly on the shell surface of ~e ~ 8 cylinder, ~h~ieas the wire ~vraps around the fo~ 8 cylinder on ~e outsi~e. C~ n~d between these two, in tur~, is ~e pa~er web, sandwiched b~ elt a~d wire. In ~his case? i.e., when 25 using a felt, the fnrmin~ cylinder has a continuous shell ~lrfAce.
To accon~rl;ch w~ a ~o c~lled former a good sheet f~ ;on, ~e ~elt must not nul on ~he forrning cylinder too dry. The felt even L~

It goes wi~out say~ng tha~ the exit water conte~t of felt a~d paper web will be t~e higher the higher the entra~ce water content at C-lt~ ;~ the press nip. Thus, the l,l~cc of water in the felt pnor to 5 w~ g around the fo,~ e cyl~nder, for one, is ~ for a fla~les~ wu,king of the fo~ g cylinder but, for another, it is u~ble whe~ l~e objective is achie~ a m~im~lly hig~ L~ei.j of ~e paper web pass~ng the pre~s nip.
The obje~ underlying the in~rentton i9 to design a wire section 10 acco~di~ to ~e p~eamble of claim 1 in a fashion such that the felt, as it wraps around the for~ g cylinder, for one, holds ~fft~iellt ~ater to be ~ble to ma~ter the formi~ job but, for ano~er, th~t it holds as lit-tle water a~ po~ihle i~ view of a minim~l water col~tent aflter e~u~g ~om the following press(es).
lS This objc~i~e is met by ffle ch&~ g ~.-t~ of claim 1.
In doing so, th~ ill /~or chose an avenue ~hat is completely cou~ . to the classic notion. ~tead of e2~posing the felt on it~ path in ~ap~g ~rou~d the fo,~~ d~ to a ~uum, in order to wi~hdraw ~v~ter from ~e felt ~nd pass it to the interior ûf the formirlg ~iyli~d~r for removal, provi~ions are that ~e felt be ~A~csed to p~e ~n the area of ~e wi~roul~d zone of ~e fo~ cyli~der (or at least part of tha~
~ ,~ouild ~rea). At the ~ame time, the finrn~i1tE ~ d~ i~ f~al~d, which aclii~ es that the ~lc~ forces the ~er co~ P~ in ~he felt to its radially oute~ s~ace in the ~a~ d~ and thu~ to the bound~y 2S su~ace ~vith t~e paper w~b. This assures a ~ffi~ ie~ er content ~ the ~rea of this bo~dasy s~ di~is~ y~ it me~ns t~at the felt overall - after leavi~g ~e fo~ cylinder ~ has a relatively low content of water. Hence, relati~rely lit~e water needs tû be r~ ,~e~ ftom ~e felt by the press(es). The dry~ess of lhe felt ex~ting the pre~s section i~ ~us rdatively hi~h, as cû~ed to prior art embo~ . Along with it, ho~ , also the dryness of the paper web be~cs rather high, ~ince SENT BY:Xerox Telecopier ~02C ; 7-19-96 ; 14:23 ; BAKER&DANI~LS~ ;~ 5 2 18~S69 ~e relatively dry felt can pick up, in ~e press ~ecti~n, much more water ~om ~he paper weS than a moist felt accoi~ing to ~e prior art Besides the said advantQges achieved by the inven~o~ it i~8 quite co~ ble that the iIIVentiQn~l al~p~ ti~n of ple~ t~8 in the S fiber fleece slight fiber mo~e.~ and that, hence, the fiber o~ !n peIpen~icul~r to the p~per surface is il~uenC~.
