Description

BRASSIERE STRUCTURE

The present invention relates generally to woman underwear and in particular to a brassiere that is adjustable in the relative position of cups and readily releasable.

Brassieres are generally used to support breasts for healthy and aesthetic purpose. In some areas, wearing brassieres is an etiquette and social politeness for women.
Currently, the brassieres have two types, the front-hook closure and the back-hook closure, which are respectively illustrated in Figures lA and lB of the attached drawings.
The back-hook closure brassieres illustrated in Figure lA
comprises a left cup 10 and a right cup 11 connected together at a front connection portion, each having a back strap 12 or 13 extending backward to be releasably engageable with each other with fastening means 20, such as a hook and eye closure.
Each of the cups 10 and 11 also has a shoulder strap 14 or 15 extending between the respective back strap 12 or 13 and the respective cup 10 or 11 to hold the brassiere in position.
The back hook closure type brassiere usually has a two step adjustable hook and eye closure, such as 20 in Figure lA.
The front hook closure type brassiere, such as that illustrated in Figure lB, has two cups 10' and 11' connected to each other with back straps 12' and 13' surrounding the back of a wearer. A hook and eye closure type fastener 20~ is provided between the cups 10' and 11' at the front side of the wearer. Shoulder straps 14' and 15' extend between the respective cups 10' and 11' and the respective back straps 12' and 13'.
In wearing the conventional brassieres, both the front hook closure type and back hook closure type, it needs the wearers to put her hands through the shoulder straps and then fastening the hook and eye closure type fastener.
The shoulder straps may be designed to be detachable from the brassieres for forming strapless brassieres.
The conventional brassieres, although good for regular women, yet not suitable for mothers who personally nurse their babies for the sizes of the breast may change drastically before and after nursing. Due to the change in breast size, the back hook closure type brassieres, such as that shown in Figure lA, is a better choice for mothers who nurse their babies for the reason that the back hook closure has a two step adjustability and thus better for accommodating breasts of different sizes. However, the back hook closure requires a wearer to pull her arm out of the brassiere for nursing a baby. This is quite inconvenient.
It is therefore desirable to provide a brassiere structure which is adjustable in relative position of the cups and readily releasable to overcome the disadvantages of the conventional brassieres.

The principal object of the present invention is to provide a brassiere structure which comprises position adjustable cups so as to fit for wearers of different sizes and wearers having different distances between breasts.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a brassiere wherein the cups are readily released from each other to expose the breasts for nursing a baby.
In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a brassiere comprising a left cup and a right cup releasably secured to each other at the front side by means of a Velcro connection and each having a back strap extending therefrom to the back side to have free ends thereof releasably fixed to each other by means of a Velcro fastener.
Shoulder straps are provided between each of the cups and the - 2~ 77337 associated back strap and are releasably secured thereto by means of Velcro fasteners. The use of Velcro fasteners allow the brassiere to adjust its size or the relative position of the cups so as to accommodate wearers of different sizes. The Velcro fasteners also allow the cups to be readily released from each other to allow a wearer to nurse in a more convenient manner with the brassiere partially released.

The present invention will be better understood from the following description of an illustrative but non-limitative 10 preferred embodiment of the present invention, with reference to the attached drawings, wherein:
Figures lA and lB are perspective views respectively showing the prior art back hook closure type and front hook closure type brassieres;
Figure 2 is an exploded perspective view showing a brassiere made in accordance with the present invention;
Figures 3A and 3B are perspective views showing the sequence of putting on the brassiere of the present invention;
and Figures 4A and 4s are perspective views showing the operation of releasing the cup for exposing the breast to nurse a baby.

With reference to the drawings and in particular Figure 2, wherein a brassiere made in accordance with the present invention is shown in an exploded condition, the brassiere, generally designated with reference 3 in Figure 2, comprises a left cup 30 and a right cup 31, each having a back strap 32 or 33 extending therefrom to surround the wearer (not shown in Figure 2, but shown in phantom lines in Figures 3A, 3B, 4A and 4B) and releasably connect to each other at the back side of the wearer with securing means 4 and a shoulder strap 34 or 35 2~ 77337 extending between the respective back strap 32 or 33 and the respective cup 30 or 31 to straddle the shoulder of the wearer and thus support the brassiere 3 in position.
Each of the back straps 32 and 33 are preferably made of elastic material in such a form to have a wide, front end 321 or 331 connecting to the respective cup 30 or 31 by means of for example seaming and a narrow, free end 322 or 332 overlappingly engageable with each other at the back side of the wearer with the securing means 4.
The securing means 4 comprises adjustable fastener means 40 fixed on the free ends 322 and 332 of the back straps 32 and 33 so as to allow the brassiere 3 to fit for wearers of different sizes. In the embodiment illustrated, the fastener means 40 is made of Velcro material comprising a hook pad 401 attached to the free end 322 of the left side back strap 32 and a loop pad 402 fixed on the free end 332 of the right side back strap 33 so as to allow the free ends 322 and 332 of the back straps 32 and 33 to be readily, releasably engageable with each other.
Each of the shoulder straps 34 and 35 has two ends 341, 342 or 351, 352 releasably attached to the respective back strap 32 or 33 and the respective cup-30 or 31. In the embodiment illustrated, releasable fastener means is provided between the ends 341 and 351 of the should straps 34, 35 and the cups 30, 31 and between the ends 342, 352 and the back straps 32 and 33 to allow the shoulder straps 34 and 35 to be released from the brassiere 3 for either taking off the brassiere 3 or converting the brassiere 3 to a strapless brassiere.
The releasable fastener means of the shoulder straps may also be Velcro type fastener as that used in the free ends of the back straps 32 and 33 and also designated with the numeral 40 for simplicity. The fastener means 40 of the shoulder strap comprises a hook pad 401 fixed to each end 341, 342, 351 or 352 of the shoulder straps 34 and 35 and a loop pad 402 2~ 77337 fixed to the corresponding positions of the back straps 32, 33 and the cups 30, 31. The use of Velcro type fastener provide the brassiere 3 with ad~ustability for fitting for wearers of different sizes.
Similarly, the CUpB 30 and 31 which may be of any conventional structure that has for example under-wiring and made by integrally seaming the material together is detachable from each other by the provision of releasable fastener means 40 therebetween at the front connection portion. The fastener means 40 comprises a hook pad 401 and a loop pad 402 respectively attached to the connection portion of the cups 30 and 31. This allows the cups 30 and 31 to adjust the relative position therebetween to accommodate breasts of different sizes or breasts of varying sizes such as a nursing mother.
In putting on the brassiere 3 in accordance with the present invention, referring to Figures 3A and 3B, the wearer may attach the front side fastener means 40 at the front side thereof and then surround the back straps 32 and 33 of the brassier 3 around her body to have the free ends 322 and 332 of the back straps 32 and 33 secured together at her back side by attaching the hook pad 401 and the loop pad 402 of the fastener means 40 associated with the back straps 32 and 33 together, as shown in Figure 3A. This provides the wearer with a strapless brassiere.
The wearer may then attach the shoulder straps 34 and 35 to the cups 30 and 31 and the back straps 32 and 33 with the Velcro fasteners 40 associated therewith, as shown in Figure 3B. This completes wearing the brassiere 3 of the present invention:
In Figures 4A and 4B, it shows how to partially release the brassiere 3 of the present invention for nursing a baby (not shown). The wearer releases the fastener means 40 at the front side of the wearer and detaches one of the cups, for example the right cup 31, from the other one, the left cup 30, to expose the right breast for nursing the baby. Once the nursing is completed, the size of the breast may be reduced and wearer, in re-putting on the right cup 31, may adjust the position of the right cup 31 with respect to the left cup 30 by adjusting the loop pad 402 relative to the hook pad 401.
This allows the cups 30 and 31 to be more precisely fit over the breasts and makes the breasts feel more comfort.
It is apparent that although the invention has been described in connection with the preferred embodiment, it is contemplated that those skilled in the art may make changes to the preferred embodiment, for example eliminating the fastener means associated with the free ends of the back straps and directly seaming the free ends of the back straps together, without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
