TOBACCO PRODUCT PACRAGE ~ o~ )K
FT~l n OF INVENTION~ _ This invention relates to a device for storing and protecting tobacco products, and particularly to a rigid container into which a t~bacco product package, such a3 a cardboard cLgarette package, may be inserted.
BACRGROVND DF ~ TNVF NTIQ-N.
Tobacco products such as cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco and the like are generall~ sold in cardboard packages. The packages are typically rectangular, containing, for example, 20 or 25 cigarettes . Cigal ettes and cigars are delicate, and therefore can easily be broken, bent or crushed. As the cardboard packages provide little protection to their contents, cigarettes and other tobacco products are of ten damaged when transported in pockets, purses and the like.
It is known to protect cigarettes from damage by storing them in a cigarette case. A cigarette case is typically of a clam shell construction, including rigid, usually metal, halves which are hinged together and which may be f ixed in place with a clasp. Ho~;~ever, several disadvantages are associated with cigarette cases. Firstly, cigarettes must be individually removed from their cardboard package and placed one by one into the cigaretl_e case. Secondly, cigarette cases are generally heavy and bu Lky. Thirdly, cigarette cases are often expensive to manufacture due to their design and to the fact that they are genera ly constructed of leather or metal.
