Abstract
Cette invention concerne un ensemble électrode à membrane-étanchéité (40) pour piles à combustible (10) qui comprend une première et une seconde couches de matériau conducteur mince et poreux tel que du papier en fibres de carbone (44, 50). Ces deux couches comportent entre elles une membrane échangeuse d'ions en polymère non poreux. Lesdites couches, qui couvrent et soutiennent la membrane (43) sur sensiblement toute sa surface, sont revêtues d'un catalyseur (54) d'activation électrochimique et collées à la membrane pour former un ensemble unitaire. Des ouvertures (51, 52, 111, 112, 113, 114) sont formées dans lesdites couches et la membrane pour laisser filtrer des fluides. Des gorges (60, 61) formées dans l'ensemble multicouche entourent les ouvertures sur tout leur pourtour ainsi que la zone électrochimiquement active et reçoivent des joints d'étanchéité pleins préformés (62, 63). Cette technique d'étanchéisation peut aussi être appliquée aux ensembles membrane-étanchéité (40) de la section humidification (30) des piles à combustible (10).
