Abstract
The principal of this invention is to aid in the "hands free" application of cellular phones or other communication devices installed in vehicles.
This assembly is a universal arm that will adjust in any direction to bring the microphone close to the driver's mouth thereby creating a true hands free useable device that outperforms the standard hands free microphone by a large degree.
This arm is to be mounted to the inside of the vehicle using a swivel mount and an extendible arm allowing adjustment for each and every vehicle and also able to swing out of the way when not in use.

Description
2 1 ~ 6283 Specification This device relates to a movable arrn mounted in a vehicle upon which a n~iGluphone can be mounted.
Microphones are common in today's market place and have a large variety of uses and applications. The ceUular phone market has two basic types of hands free microphones:
one that mounts on the visor or thereabouts with some sort of clip; the other mounted in a head set that the occ~pq1l1 of the vehicle wears attached with a wire to the phone.
The visor mounted rnicrophone works to some de~ee but there is excessive noise due to the type of n~ uphone that must be used in this application. It picks up the voice but also all other noise making it very difficult for the caUer to hear.
The headset n~icrophone works weU with a ~ ubef of notable exceptions, being that this unit must be wom on your person with a wire attached allowing for breakage, constant taking off and puffing on and important to a number of people this unit is restrictive and ~ b~.~ome.
With two basic types of microphones omni-directional (the visor mounted) and uni-directional (the headset mounted) the device I have come up with takes advantage of the best of both, name~ an arm mounted to the inside of the vehicle, that can be fully ~djn~te~l very simply and moves freely on a swivel and is telescopic with a gooseneck to which the microphone is attached.
By having the microphone on such an a~n it is easily moved close to the mouth thus allowing the use of a quali~ uni-directional microphone and thus outperforrning the regular hands free microphone by a large and very noticeable degree.
Since this aam is easily moved to an from the mouth on its swivel mount it becomes much easier, less ~ ome and less susceptible to breakage than the head set microphone.

In the drawings which illustrate embodiments of this invention Figure 1 is a full side view of the a~n and comprises of a base assembly 1 that A~t~e~ c to a swivel (to and from) 2 that attaches to a hinge assembly 3 that attaches to a tube 4 that has a tube 5 that telescopes in and out of tube 4 for adjustable length. Tube S hooks to a flexible gooseneck 6 that allows arm 7 to move up and down to allow nL ophone 8 placement.
Tube 4 has a set screw 9 to lock tube 5 after a one time adjustment.
Tube 4 has a hole 10 in it to allow wiring from microphone 8 to exit the arm so the wire (of sufficient length) can be installed out of sight in the vehicle and eventually hooked into the phone.
Figure 2 shows the base assemb~ to universally mount the arm into any vehicle.
The base 1 has two holes in it 2 and 3 to allow the base 1 to be mounted to the vehicle using two sheet metal screws.
The arm mounts to the threaded pivot point 9 so an up and down movement can be obtained thus a]lowing adjustment for the contour of the vehicle in which the arm is to be mounted.
The second method of mounting the base assemb~ (in some cases) is by using double sided tape and mounting to any suitable surface.
T~is base assembly Figure 2 adju~ cnt is required to mount the swivel assemb~ Figure 1, 2 to match the contour of the vehicle and allow the swivel assembly to be horizontal thus allowing easy movement of the swivel assembly to the user.

Claims (5)
1. A fully adjustable arm that swings easily to and from a mounting point in a vehicle to allow the easy access and use of a hands free microphone.
2. Fully universal to adapt to the interior or any vehicle.
3. The arm can swing out of the way when not in use.
4. The arm allows for the use of a unidirectional microphone, thus cutting down extensively on unwanted noise when in use.
5. The arm does not attach to the user in any way, either physically or by the use of any wires, thus encouraging the use of hands free operation leaving both hands free for safe operation of the motor vehicle.
