Abstract
The Device described hereafter is designed for the intent of allowing the owner/operator of a motorized vehicle to prevent the display of the vehicles licence plate numbers. By means of an electro chemical process, a licence plate cover can become transparent or translucent at the operator's discretion. The licence plate cover will be made of a transparent plastic compound. It is the intent of this patent to register Tom Kreimes as the inventor of the licence plate cover which incorporates a product which when a electrical current is supplied or removed to the active chemical composition within the licence plate cover, the cover becomes transparent or opaque. Several chemical compositions are available which will change their visual appearance when in the presence of or inversely, the absence of an electrical current. It is the combined use of a licence plate cover incorporated with an electro chemical or photo chemical reactive compound which makes this new product unique, and therefore warranting patent protection. Alteration to the chemical composition of the electro chemical reactant, size of plate cover or alteration of the power sourceshould be considered obvious to the original inventor.

Specification Genera/ Character This invention relates to a device designed to be operated by the driver of a motor vehicle to prevent the vehicle licence plate from being photographed without the driver's consent.
Nature in general terms It now appears necessary to prevent intrusion of privacy resulting from licence plates being photographed without aulllori~alion. By means of activation or deactivation of the chemical composition within the licence plate cover, the driver can render the licence plate cover clear or opaque, so that the numbers on the licence plate numbers cannot be photographed at the moment which an unauthorized photograph is about to take place. The numbers appear again shortly after the driver decides the threat of unauthorized photographic reproduction of the licence plate has subsided.
214q716 The Inventive idea Other devices are unsatisfactory because they prevent the licence platenumbers from being seen at certain angles, whereby my invention pe"~lils the licence plate numbers to be visible at all times except when the driver elects to temporarily prevent the viewing of the licence plate numbers. My invention incorporates the use of an electro-chemical reaction to achieve its outcome, whereas other devices may use optical filtering, mechanical or electro-mechanical means to produce a similar result.
Description In the drawings which illustrate the embodiments of the invention, Figure 1 is afront view of this embodiment, Figure 2 is a top view of this embodiment, Figure3 is a side view of this embodiment.
The apparatus illustrated comprises a transparent plastic body 1 which is used to cover the licence plate of a motorized vehicle. Within the body 1, a film 2 lines the inside wall of the body 1. The film 2 contains a chemical composition which changes state from translucent to transparent when it is stimulated by an electrical current. The conductor plate 3 is used to distribute the electrical current evenly over a chosen edge of the film 2. The wires 4 are allacl~ed to the conductor plate 3 and are used as a medium to transport an electrical current which is provided by the motor vehicles power supply. The bolt guides 5 are holes made in the body 1 which allow the apparatus to be attached to the motor vehicle.

Claims (3)
1. A licence plate cover which incorporates a film which is fixed on the inside of the licence plate cover. In its natural state, the chemical composition within the film is opaque, when an electrical current is applied, the molecules within the film oscillate. The oscillation of the molecules creates a gap between the molecules which allows a larger amount of light to pass through, it is this change of state which allows the licence plate cover to switch from translucent to transparent.
2. A device as described in claim 1 using the vehicles power source.
3. A device as described in claim 1 using an electro chemical reaction.
