Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
A telecommunications private branch exchange has a time acquisition module that acquires the current time of day at an external subscriber during the course of a call set-up to the external subscriber directed via a telecommunications network.
This current time of day at the external subscriber is displayed on a display means on the extension terminal equipment of the appertaining, internal subscriber.

Description

21i~12~

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is directed to a telecommunications private branch exchange for connecting extension terminal equipment to one another and for connecting extension terminal equipment to telecommunication networks, particularly public networks. A timer module forms current local time of day information which can be displayed on display devices of the extension terminal equipment.
Telecommunications private branch exchanges having a local clock are known in the prior art. The time of day information formed by this clock is supplied to digital extension terminal equipment and is displayed on their optical display means. Product publications of Siemens AG "System Hicom 200", Ordering Numb~r A 19100-K 3161-G 538 and "Hicom 600 System", Ordering Number A 19100-K 3161-G 430-01 describe telecommunications private branch exchanges wherein enhanced feature extension terminal equipment display the current time of day and the current date. The display can be activated either by pressing an operating key or can be constantly activated.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved telecommunicatlons private branch exchange wherein the internal subscriber is immediately provided with a display of external time information of local times deviating from one another at the locations of the call partners. Auxiliary means, for example worldwide clocks, for identifying the local time at the call partner become superfluous with the present invention.
A further advantage of the present invention is that a call set-up that is initiated at an unfavorable time is 21~4~

recognized early, so that unintentional inconveniencing of the external call partner, for example, during a night's repose, can be avoided.
In a telecommunications private branch exchange of the present invention a time acquisition module activates during the course of a call set-up between an extension terminal equipment of an internal subscriber and a terminal equipment of an external subscriber directed via a telecommunications network. This time acquisition module identifies the current time of day at the external subscriber. The external subscriber current time of day is displayed as external time of day information at the display means of the extension terminal equipment of the internal subscriber either alternatively or additionally to the local time of day information.
A calculation of the current local time at the external call partner can ensue with the use of a dialing information evaluation module immediately upon input of a first part of the dialing information relevant to an allocation of time zones. This occurs regardless of whether a busy or free status is subsequently recognized at the desired call partner and regardless of whether the connection is established at all.
The preparation of the external time of day information requires relat vely little outlay when the time difference values belonging to those parts of the dialing information relevant to time zone are stored in a time zone table. The time difference values thereby represent the positive or negative difference in hours by which the local time at the external call partners differs from the local time at the internal subscriber.

Calculating errors that, in particular, can occur when switching from daylight-saving time to standard time are avoided by using a time information receiver module that evaluates time information transmitted from a destination exchange. Moreover, the received time information can also be used in order to update stored time difference values.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The features of the present invention which are believed to be novel, are set forth with particularity in the appended claims. The invention, together with further ob~ects and advantages, may best be understood by reference to the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in the several Figures of which like reference numerals identify like elements, and in which:
Figure 1 depicts a telecommunications private branch exchange of the present invention; and Figure 2 depicts modules realized in program-oriented terms for use in the Figure 1 branch exchange.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
The private branch exchange F shown in Figure 1 in the form of a block circuit diagram essentially has a central controller CC, a switching network KF and a memory SP.
Internal terminal equipment ENl...EN4 are connected to the switching network KF via subscriber line circuits TAl...TA4.

~.
The internal terminal equipment ENl... EN4 have display means ;~
in the form of a display D for displaying information, particularly time information, and have a keypad TA for the ;
input of dialing information. Trunk circuits TRl...TR3 are connected to the switching network KF and serve the purpose of setting up outgoing and/or incoming exchange traffic via the ;

appertaining exchange lines ALl...AL3. What are to be . . . : . . :

understood by exchange lines are the central office lines to the public telecommunications network. The memory SP
connected to the central controller CC contains, among other things, configuration data and subscriber data that define the specific system expansion of the private branch exchange or, respectively, represent user-related system data. The central controller CC is essentially composed of a processor system having a microprocessor Up, a main memory MEN and an event receiver module IC.
A timer means CL, which is comparable to an electronic clock, communicates real-time information in the form of pulses T in a periodic sequence to the event receiver module IC in the central controller CC. The central controller CC is a matter of a memory-programmed controller, that is, all control and monitoring functions of the telecommunications private branch exchange ensue by processing program modules that are structured job-oriented and function-oriented.
Figure 2 shows an appertaining program-orie~ted structure in an abstracted block presentation. This structure is composed of an operating system BS and of a plurality of function-related program modules PM, a respective function being carried out upon implementation by the microprocessor Up. The modules relevant to the present innovation and the embodiments thereof are also realized as program modules. A
dialing information evaluation module WB is provlded for identifying the potential time difference value for dialing information input at a terminal equipment ENl...EN4 with which a central office line ELl...EL3 is occupied. This occurs with the use of a time zone table ZZT stored in the memory SP in which a time difference value is respectively deposited and is allocated to the digit sequences of the international numbers 2 ~ 2 ~'~

DF CCIT E163-164. This time difference value indicates how many hours must be added or subtracted between the existing local time and the time that is a local time at the called partner. The current local time of day information is forwarded to the terminal equipment ENl...EN4 at regular intervals in order to be displayed on their displays D, heing forwarded by a timer module ZG that receives real~time information T for updating the time of day information from the timer means CL at periodic intervals.
This local time of day information is also co~nunicated by the timer module to a time acquisition module ZE to which a time difference value is also conducted by the dialing information evaluation module WB in case of a busy central office line ALl...AL3. The time acquisition module ZE
calculates an external time of day information from these two information items, namely from the current time of day information and from the time difference value, and transmits this external time of day information to that terminal equipment ENl...EN4 at which the appertaining dialing informatisn was input. The external time of day information then appears at the display D of this terminal equipment EN1, either alternatively or additionally to the local time of day information.
Instead of or as a supplement to the aforementioned program modules, a time information receiver module (not shown) can also be provided. This module receives time information corresponding to the external time of day information during the course of the call set-up from terminal equipment ENl...EN4 via one of the central office lines ELl...EL3 to a destination exchange (not shown), receiving this time information from the destination exchange.

2 ~

The communicated time information can also be employed in order to update the time difference values in the time zone table.
The invention is not limited to the particular details of the apparatus depicted and other modifications and applications are contemplated. Certain other changes may be made in the above described apparatus without departing from the true spirit and scope of the invention herein involved.
It is intended, therefore, that the subject matter in the above depiction shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
