' ;~.' ' ' ''.
2. De3cription o~ the Related_Art In a storage and transport container of this type, the cover ;
is required for protecting the goods placed in the container -`
~, .: .
against moisture. `
In addition to the protection against moisture, it is important that the container can be easily manipulated. Thus, it must be possible to place the container as easily as possible in ;~-~
the desired location, for example, in shelves. This means that, ;
for storage purposes as well as for transporting purposes, the container must be of stable construction and it must be possible -~
to stack the container. Known storage and transport containers which are available on the market have not been found sufficient ;
with respect to tightness as well as with respect to the manipulation thereof. ~
' ' ~' :' "' SUMMARY OF T~ INVENTION
Therefore, it is the primary object of the present invention to provide a storage and transport container of the above-described type which avoids the disadvantages mentioned above and has improved storage and transport properties.
In accordance with the p~esent invention, the container is provided with a circumferentially extending groove which ls preferably provided on the inner sides of the container walls.
A sealing cord or a sealing ring, for example, of rubber, placed into the groove of the container according to the present invention ensures that the cover is sealed to all sides when the i~
cover is placed in or on the container. The groove may be provided in an outwardly protruding wall shoulder or wall projection. In other words, the inner sides of the walls may have a step on which the cover can be placed with a close fit.
The sealing contact achieved in this manner additionally provides a high stability.
In accordance with a preferred feature of the present invention, the bottom side of the cover has a circumferentially extending rib which faces the groove. When the cover is pressed onto the container/ the rib rests against the sealing cord or .
sealing ring placed in the groove and, thus, ensures an effective sealing action of the container.
::
In accordance with another preferred feature, the longitudinal sides and/or the end sides of the cover are provided with snap closures which engage in corresponding recesses, proiections or the like provided on the container, so that the sealing effect between the cover and the container is further improved. This is because the engagement of the snap closures ensures that the cover rests against the sealing cord or sealing ring even more tightly because the snap closures pull the~
circumferential rib against the sealing cord or sealing ring.
In accordance with another feature, the corner areas of the container are provided with aprons, so that the stability of the container is increased. The aprons are provided particularly at the edges in the corner areas which are especially susceptible to damage during ~torage and/or transportation of the container. ;`~
In accordance with a further development of the invention, the corner areas of the container as well as the cover are provided with openings which are arranged opposite each other and in alignment with each other. The corner areas provided with the reinforcing aprons are particularly suitable for arranging the openings therein, for example, in the form of shafts which not only act as gripping means, but simultaneously make it possible to secure the sealed interior of the container, for example, by inserting a bolt or a chain through the openings of the container and of the cover and to lock the bolt or chain with suitable locking means, for example, a padlock.
Another proposal of the present invention provides that the upper side of the cover has a stacking edge which corresponds to the contour of the container bottom and is interrupted in the corner areas of the cover. T~is edge which facilitates stacking is particularly required if containers are to be stacked which narrow significantly toward the bottom. If the inclination of the longitudinal side walls and the end walls of the container is not very steep, the already existing rim oE the cover may be sufficient for securing a container placed on the cover. The interruptions of the stacking edge make it possible that gripping and lifting means can engage in the openings of the cover and of the container from the outside as well from the inside when the cover is closed.
.:
The various features of novelty which characterize the invention are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of the disclosure. For a better understanding of the invention, its operating advantages, specific objects attained by its use, reference should be had to the drawing and descriptive manner in which there are illustrated and described a preferred embodiment of the invention.

DETAXLED DESCRIPTION O~ THE PREF~RRED EMBODIMENTS
As illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, a container 1 is downwardly conically shaped. The container 1 is provided -with a circumferentially extending groove 2. The circumferential ~;~
groove 2 is arranged on the inner sides of longitudinal side walls and end walls 3 of the container 1. A sealing ring 4 is placed in the circumferential groove 2.
The corners of the container 1 are reinforced with aprons 5 which extend downwardly to a greater extent than an outwardly ~-protruding, angularly shaped reinforcing web 6 which is provided on the container in a conventional manner. In the immediate vicinity of the aprons 5 and, thus, in the corner areas of the container 6, shaft-like openings 7 are provided in the end walls 3 of the container. On the one hand, the openings 7 have the ~-~
purpose to serve as gripping means for improving the manipulation of the container 1. On the other hand, after the cover 8 illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4 has been placed on the container 1, the openings 7, together with corresponding openings 14 in the -~
cover, serve to receive locking means for securing the interior of the container against undesirable access.
As shown in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawing, the bottom side of the cover 8 has a circumferentially extending rib 9 whose contour corresponds to that of the groove 2 or the sealing ring 4 of the ,: . -'' - .:
~,...
container 1. After the cover 8 has been pressed into the ~
, . . : -container 1 or placed on the container 1, the rib 9 is in tight contact with the sealing ring 4 and ensures that the container -interior is properly sealed. The sealing effect is further improved by means of iug-shaped snap closures 10 arranged on the -longitudinal sides and/or en~ sides of the cover 8. The snap closures 10 have inwardly angled projections 11 which face the container 1 when the cover 8 is placed on the container 1.~ The projections 11 engage under the reinforcing web 6 and, thus, ensure that the cover 8 is pulled even more tightly against the sealing ring 4.
As illustrated in Fig. 3, the upper side of the cover is provided with a stacking edge 12 which is interrupted in the corner areas of the cover. The contour of the stacking edge 12 corresponds to the bottom 13 of the container 1. In other words, the stacking edge 12 is shaped in such a way that it surrounds on all sides the bottom of a container placed on the cover 8, so that stacking of several containers 1 is facilitated. Together with the openings 7 of the container and openings 14 of the cover, the interruptions of the stacking edge 12 ensure that gripping and lifting means can engage in the openings from the outside as well as from the inside when the cover is closed.
~' .l 1 i il 1 .j After the cover 8 has been placed in or on the container 1, the openings 14 of the cover 8 mentioned above are in alignment with the shaft-like openings 7, so that a continuous opening is provided for engagement and insertion of a securing means.
The invention is not limited by the embodiments described above which are presented as ~examples only but can be modified in various ways within the scope of protection defined by the appended patent claims.
