Abstract

Abstract of the Disclosure An advertising sample device is provided for a product which has a distinctive fragrance and which is sold in a container with a removable top. The device includes a laminar base portion comprising first and second sheets secured together in facing relation, with either or both of the sheets having a peripheral contour corresponding to the contour of the container for the product, and an upper portion including a depending tongue part received between the sheets and a further part having a contour corresponding to that of the removable top of the container. The tongue part has disposed thereon, on a surface thereof in engagement with one of the sheets, a layer of rupturable micro-capsules containing the fragrant substance. The upper portion is capable of sliding movement relative to the base portion so as to simulate opening of the container by removal of the top thereof and so that corresponding movement of the tongue part causes rupture of these micro-capsules and the attendant release of the fragrant product.

Description

ADVERTISING SAMPLE FOR FRAGRANT PRODUCT

Field of the Invention This invention relates to a sample of a fragrant product, such as a perfume or a fragrance (although it can be used for other substances with a characteristic scent), for advertising purposes.

Backqround of the Invention The sample is of the general type comprising a fragrant substance contained in gelatin micro-capsules or the like, disposed or grouped on a surface having a predetermined area on a first sheet of paper, cardboard, plastic, or the like, and connected to same by an adhesive, so as to form a layer against which a second sheet is appliedt for example, by gluing. The second sheet, upon being withdrawn by detaching it from said layer~ causes the rupture of the above-mentioned micro-capsules and the dispersing by evaporation of the fragrant substance into the environment, i.e., causes release of the fragrant substance into the atmosphere.
Although the above-mentioned arrangement proved to be very effective, it is impaired, in terms of its advertising purposes, by the inconvenience that the association between the fragrant product and the perfume or fragrance involved must be established through printed advertising on one or the other face of the sheets used. This is rather ine~ficient on :, many occasions, especially once the sheet or flap covering the layer o~ fragrant substance has been removed. Also, considerable cost can be involved in providing the product with a series of advertising 1messages or miscellaneous additions.

Summary of the Invention The present invention proposed to eliminate the above-mentioned inconveniences and disadvantages and, in this regard, one important feature of the invention involves the fact that the sample of the invention is presented in the form of a sheet assembly whose contour coincides, to scale, with that of an actual perfume bottle or flask, in an elavation view, the fragrant substance being deposited on a laminar element or sheet placed in a defined housing between two back-to-back sheets that can be moved by way of sliding, thus causing the rupture of the micro-capsules. The laminar element is connected to or forms a one piece construction with a representative portion of the stopper or the stopper and a portion of the neck of the flask. By means of this arrangement, the sample provides a direct image or representation of the perfume product itself and the fragrant substance escapes into the atmosphere, in synchronism with the simulated l'opening" of the above-mentioned "flask," thus enhancing or accentuating the advertising qualities of the sample.

Thus, in accordance with the present invention, the above-mentioned surface that carries the micro-capsules is provided on a laminar element, in the manner of a blade of a flat shovel or a tongue or strip, that is interposed or received between two other laminar pieces or sheets that are arranged back-to-back against each other, which cover the laminar element completely, while at least one of said laminar pieces or sheets has a contour that corresponds to or is equivalent in shape to that of the real perfume bottle to which the sample corresponds, in an elevation view, and with a size advantageously to scale. The laminar element carrying the fragrant substance is extended into, or formed as one piece with, an outer portion of a contour coinciding with the stopper or with the ~topper and a part of the neck of said flask. The laminar element is capable of a sliding movement, in response to pulling of said external portion, simulating the opening of the flask, thereby causing the rupture of the micro-capsules, followed by dispersion or e~aporation of the fragrant product into the environment.
In a preferred embodiment, both of two laminar pieces or sheets have a contour that is equivalent to that of the "real"
container, i.e., the actual container or flask used for the perfume or the like, and these pieces are disposed back-to-back and secured or affixed to each other by gluing or some other appropriate means, so as to form a slot or crack for placement of the laminar element that supports the fragrant `, .' .. '` :' ~.
, : '` ',: . ': ' :. ., ~Si9~
substance. The laminar element i5 inserted into this slot between said laminar pieces, and is preferably adhered to at least one of the same.

Brief Description of the Drawinas In order to better understand the objects and features of the invention, the invention will now be described with reference to the drawings wherein: Figure 1 is an elevation view of an advertising sample for fragrant products in the closed state thereof; and Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 but with the laminar element supporting the fragrant substance pulled slightly out of the double-sheet assembly between which the laminar element is placed, so as to show a part of the fragrant substance layer.

Descri~tion of a Preferred Embodiment Figures 1 and 2 show a first laminar element or member 10 whose contour is equivalent to that of the body of an actual specific bottle or flask of the perfume provided by the sample. Laminar element 10 comprises two equal size laminar pieces, which are disposed back-to-back and securely affixed or connected to each other, and between which i5 placed a further laminar element ll in the manner of a ~lat rectangular shovel blade, a tongue or other strip. Element 11 includes an area or portion, on at least one of its two faces, where there is deposited a layer 12 of a fragrant substance, which layer Jt l ~ ~
remains stuck or affixed to the inside face of the corresponding, i.e., facing laminar piece 10. Element 11 is joined to and forms a one piece construction with a further portion 13 the contour of which corresponds to the stopper of the actual flask. In this embodiment, portion 13 includes a further part 14 which corresponds t:o the upper part or neck of the actual flask. Element 11 is capable of sliding between the two laminar pieces that form laminar element 10, being received in a slot or crack 15 formed between both pieces.
This movement is produced by pulling portion 13, as if the actual bottle were being opened. As a result of this movement, upon separation of layer 12 from the inside face of the corresponding element 11, micro-capsules contained in layer 12 are ruptured so as to provide release of the fragrant product into the atmosphere. The larger the portion of the layer 12 which is extracted from the housing therefor formed between the layers or sheets forming laminar element 10, the greater the amount of fragrance that is released. Laminar element 11 may have the fragrant substance deposited thereon by forming a layer on only one face or on both faces, as convenient, and as a function of the dimensions of the sample, in order to fully achieve the desired result in terms of effective dispersion or diffusion of the fragrant substance.
In another possible embodiment of the invention, the inside surface of the two laminar sheets or pieces forming element 10--whose contour is equivalent to, i.e., corresponds t . , , ~

~VJ~
to that of the actual container or flask for the fragrant substance--is corrugated in the area or zone of engagement with the element 11 that carri,es the layer 12 of said substance, so as to promote the rupture of the micro-capsules in the layer 12 due to the friction produced when said layer 12 comes into rubbing contact with that corrugated surface.
The invention now having been described sufficiently so that it may be implemented in practice, it will be understood that substantial variations in the details described above would not, however, alter its essential character as summarized in the following claims. In particular, in this case, these variations could, for example, involve the use of different materials to fabricate the laminar pieces (Bristol board, plastic, etc.).
