RETRACTABLE CHAMFERING TOOL
The Chamfering Tool as shown in Drawing CT-004 features a retractable cutting edge which allows protection of the cutting edge when not cutting metal. The replaceable carbide tip is used for the cutting edge and in fact the carbide tip has two (2) cutting edges which doubles the life of the single carbide tip. The Outer Guide also forms the guide or centralising feature of the cutting tool.

Request for a ~rant of a Patent Title A Tool for chamfering of holes in metals The purpose of Chamfering of holes in metals is to break the sharp edge around the hole and provide a guide for bolts or pins which are to ~e placed in the hole.
Tools for forming a chamEer in holes are available in many various designs but all have the cutting edge continually e~posed, which allows d~nage to occurr and reduces the effectiveness of the cutting edge.
This invention provides a retractable cutting edge which allows protection of the cutting edge when not in use whilst still ensuring a chamfer is produced.
The attached drawings will allow the concept of the design to be viewed, refer to drawing CT-004.
The above drawlng (CT-004) the tip holder in the retracted position with the cutting tip mounted in ~ ce. Once the Outer Guide revolving at speed is pressed against the hole to be chamfered, any further pressure will bring the cutting edge in contact with the metal and a chamfer producedO
Upon removal of pressure from the tool the cutting edge will retract, stop cutting metal and become protected from damage.

The above drawlng (CT-004) the tip holder in the retracted position with the cutting tip mounted in ~ ce. Once the Outer Guide revolving at speed is pressed against the hole to be chamfered, any further pressure will bring the cutting edge in contact with the metal and a chamfer producedO
Upon removal of pressure from the tool the cutting edge will retract, stop cutting metal and become protected from damage.

Claims (8)
1. The Chamfering Tool described in this application is of a retractable design which allows for the cutting edge to be retracted within the body of the tool to prevent damage to the cutting edge when not actually cutting metal.
2. The Chamfering Tool as claimed in claim 1. wherein a tip holder slides within the Outer Guide to allow retraction of the cutting edge.
3. The Chamfering Tool as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein a spring ensures that the cutting edge retracts on removing of pressure toward the material being cut.
4. The Chamfering Tool as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 or Claim 3 wherein a stop limits the depth of the chamfer being machined.
5. The Chamfering Tool as claimed in any preceeding claim, wherein the cutting edge is provided by a replaceable carbide tip.
6. The Chamfering tool as claimed in Claim 5, wherein the carbide tip has two cutting edges allowing double the life of a single carbide tip.
7. The Chamfering Tool as claimed in any preceeding claim, wherein the Outer Guide forms the guide of the cutting edge, centralising the tool in the hole providing a symmetrical chamber.
8. The Chamfering Tool as claimed in any preceeding claims, wherein the tip holder has three (3) equal paced flats to provide effecient drive when mounted in a 3 jaw chucking device.
