Abstract
A SNOWPLOW BLADE MOBILITY AND STORAGE SYSTEM
ABSTRACT:
Snow removal by light/medium snowplows, mounted on pick-up trucks and other light vehicles is described; in a system to assist in the mounting, detachment and storage of the snowplow blade during non-use periods, three wheeled devices for the support and mobility of the snowplow blade/harness and fittings.
These are in the form of two clamping devices, fitted with heavy duty caster wheels temporarily mounted to the lower edge of the blade at each extreme end of the blade. The third unit comprises a single heavy duty caster wheel, mounted on an adjustable thr-eded shaft and affixed to the centre point of the crossbar brace of the plow harness frame to allow for height adjustment, bal-ance and steerability of the de-mounted snowplow blade, harness, hydraulics and other attachments on the mobile units.

Description
A snowplow blade mobility and storage sys-tem: ..2 ~ACKGROUNO ANO OESCRIPTION OF PRIOR ARr: 2 ~ 9 8 7 ~ 3 In the clearance oF snowFalls; in North Amcrioa, Europe, Asia and certain lower extremities oF the Southern Hemisphere; hlgh-ways and streets are normally cleared by heavy, specialized and permanent units operated by government agencies. The olearance oF snow From private properties, roadways and parking lots i9 lnvariably accomplished with smaller plow units mounted on light multi-use vehicle~ such as pick-up trucks and vans with rein-Forced Frames and suspensions.
hegardless oF such strengthening~ such vehicles suFFer From the added loads, higher Fuel consumption, wind resistanoe and reduced handling characteristios created by the blade, when it i9 carried on the vehicle during non-use periods - mainly due to the diFfioulty oF de-mounting and re-mounting on short notice.
The objective oF this invention, is to provide mobility and ease oF handling For the blade ~he Fitting or storage periods while maintaining the appropriate heights and positionlng oF the blade and Fitments without the use oF other liFting apparatus.
Relevant prior art oF which I am aware, is the provision oF a wide dolly to transport the blade From storage to the vehicle For mounting with assis~ance oF external liFting gear. Certain orlginal equipment builders have consldered the inclusion oF
permanent "Jack type" mobility devlces but, to my knowledge this has not been lmplemented to date.
OESCRIPTION OF INVENTION:
The invention desoribed herein, is a method oF providing mobil-ity For; a) the positioning oF a snowplow blade For the purpose oF mounting the blade on a vehicle; b) allowing swiFt removal oF the blade From the vehicle and, c) ease oF storage by allow-ing unrestricted movement oF the unit in the storage areas.
The embodiment oF the invention i9 an adjustable~ de-mountable heavy duty wheeled bracket temporarily attached to the oross-Frame oF the snowplow h3rness Frame, and; the attachment oF two heevy duty wheal caa-ters mounted on steel clamp plates and temp-orarily aFFixed to the lower Frame oF the snowplow blade at the extreme outer ends; providing a three-point support For the snow pluw blade when not in use, as shown in the attached drawings...

A snowplow blade mobility and storage system; ..3 SPECIFICATI NS OF ~IE INVENTION: 2 ~ ~ 8 7 ~ 3 .
Wlth reFsrence to Figure 1, the snowplow is comprised oF a cur-ved bladet1) Fitted with a cutting blade~2) at its lower edgs and reinForced with a horizontal steel stiFFener~3) and Further reinForced by vertical rib plates(4). The blade i9 connected ta the vehicle by a hinged connection(5) located at the Forw-ord end oF a harness Frame(6) and which i5, in turn, reinForced by a croas-strut~7~ located between the arms oF the harness(6).
When mounted on the vehicle, the snowplow is suspended From the Frame oF the vehicle and connected by a hydraulic activator at the hinged connection(5); lateral control oF the blade is pro-vided by edditional hydraulic cylinders(~). De moun~ing oF the complete snowplow assembly requires the disconnection oF all such supporting Features and thus, the assembly is simply low-ered to the road surFace or Floor, without any Form oF mobility or ease of movsment.
Figures 1 and 2, show that, Fitment oF the three componen-ts which comprise the embodiment oF this invention, will provide whseled mobility For the total snowplow assembly. This being accomplished by aFFixing the Adjustable Wheel Frame Assembly~A~
at the Point "X" on the harness cross-strut(7) and Fitting both oF the Blade Clamp Wheel Asgembly unitst~) to the horizontal atiFFener plate(3) at each oF the ends oF the blade at Point"Y".
When Firmly aFFixed to the snowplow by turnscrew bol-ts, the whole assembly may then be lowered to grade level and disconn-ected From tho vehicle supports and moved away For storage in a ewiFt, simple manner, with little labour required.
Reversing this procedure~ places the snowplow in the proper position For re-mounting and reconnection oF supports and the hydraulic controls, at which time the snowplow is liFted and the three parts which comprisa this invention, are removed and are stored within the vehicle For sub~equent re-use a-t any tima.
