Abstract
ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
A decorative article of wear, such as a scarf, is made of an elongate sleeve of textile fabric gathered from end to end and a ductile wire along the center of the sleeve and fastened to its opposite ends. The sleeve may be wrapped around the neck or head to provide a decorative appearance.

Description
2~9196~
The present invention relates to decorative articles of neck or headwear and more particularly to a decorative scarf or hair ornament.
The present invention provides an elongate article that may be worn around the neck a5 a neckerchief or in the hair as a kerchief for ornamental purposes. Due t~ the construction of the article, portions of the article, especially adjacent the ends, may easily be formed into decorative bows or puffs of gathered material.
According to the present invention there is provided a deaorative article comprising an elongate sleeve of flaccid material and an elongate ductile me~ber withln the sleeve, the ductile member having a length less than that of the sleeve and having ends fixed to ends of the sleeve so as to gather the sleeve ~rom end to end.
The sleeve is preferably a sleeve of textile fabric, i.e. cloth, bearing an ornamental pattern. The ductile member is preferably a wire of about one-half the length of tbe sleeve so that the sleeve is gathered 1 lengthwise by the wire.
'When worn around the neck, the center section of the sleeve may be pulled smooth, with the gathers acaumulating towards the ends of the sleeve. The wire may ~
- then be deformed around the neck. This holds the shape of ~ . :
- 2 ~ 9 6 5 , the scarf and also allows the setting of the gathered ends of the sleeve in a desired configuration, as for example a bow or pom pom. The article may similarly be worn about the ~' head as ornamental headwear.
~t ~i In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate an exemplary embodiment of the present invention:
Figure l is a side view of an article according to the present invention;
Figure 2 is a view showing the component-q of the article dis-assembled and arranged side by side; and Figure 3 is a view of the article arranged for use as nackwear.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, there i5 illustrated a decorative article 10 that is shown in a stretched condition in Figure 1. The external appearance of the article i8 a textile fabric sleeve that is gathered lengthwise.
i~ As illustrated in Figure 2, the external component :i~ of the article is a textile fabric sleeve 12 having a length greater than l.5 meters, in this embodiment 1.6 meters. The internal component of the sleeve is an elongate, ductile wire 14 that is roughly one-half the length of the Rleeve , 12, in this embodiment somewhat less than one meter. When assembled, the wire 14 is inserted into the sleeve 1? and its ends 16 and 18 are fastened to the ends 20 and 22 i ~,.' ;

respectively of the sleeve 12. This gathers the sleeve as shown in Figure 1.
By deforming the wire, the complete article can be made to adopt and remain in a wide variety of configurations. One of these is i}lustrated in Figure 3, where the center section of the sleeve has been pulled out to remove the gathers and then wrapped into a loop, in the manner of a scarf. Where the ends of the loop are brought together, the wire is deformed to form the highly gathered ends of the sleeve into a decorative bow 24. Because of the ductile core wire, no knots need be tied. The highly gathered ends of the product produae a very attractive appearance. Where desired, the center section of the sleeve need not be pulled smooth but may remain gathered according .~
' to the wishes of the wearer.
While one embodiment of the present invention has , been des ribed in the foregoing, it is to be understood that `~ other embodiments are possible within the scope of the invention. The scope of the invention is to be ascertained -solely by refarence to the appended claims.
