Abstract

ABSTRACT

A holder for firmly securing containers of cello-wrap usually to the bottom side of kitchen cabinets or shelves. In this way the cello-wrap is readily available when required but not in the way.
Loss of ends and mutilation of the cello-wrap is eliminated. The holder can easily be removed for loading refills or other cello-wrap dispensers. The original cello-wrap container may become a permanent dispenser eliminating the need for refills which have cardboard containers and cutting edges. The holder has a viewing port so that one may observe the amount of wrap remaining on the roll or cartridge. The holder ends are identical and separated for adjustment to various widths of cello-wrap. The front or back of the holder/dispenser is enhanced with a plastic strip for desired colour co-ordination.

Description

- ~089417 SPECIFICATION

1 This invention relates to the holding and dispensing of cello wrap such as used in kitchens throughout North America eg. Stretch 'n Seal, Handi-Wrap etc.
2 Cello-wrap, as used in households, generally comes in a cardboard carton which has a serrated edge made of metal to cut off the required length of material.
Occasionally, when the user pulls out the desired length, the rolL may inadvertently also come out of its carton container. Because of the clinging nature of the material, ends are usually lost when this happens. By having to hold the carton in one hand and tear off a piece of wrap with the other, at various times the piece will fold back on itself and become difficult to separate. At other times, the severed edge of the wrap will cling tightly to the serrated edge and the side of the container making it difficult to pick up the end.
Some devices are known to exist which attempt to solve some of these problems. Disadvantages of these devices are that they are not adaptable to various sizes and widths in which these products are manufactured, do not let the user determine how much of the wrap is left on the roll, are usually cumbersome to locate in the kitchen, are relatively expensive, and do not readily lend themselves to colour co-ordination with other appliances.
3 I have found that some of these disadvantages and restrictions may be overcome by-providing a holder at each end of the carton container which is firmly attached to the underside of a kitchen cabinet, shelf or similar suitable location. Both hands are then free to pull down the desired length of material and tear it off without any possibility of the roll coming out of its contrainer. In addition, because both hands are on each edge of the cello-wrap, it cannot fold over on itself.
The remaining edge of cello-wrap does not cling to the serrated edge but drops down about two inches to be easily grasped for the next use. The holders holding each end of the carton con-tainer are identical so that there is no need for a separate left and right product.
The fact that the device is in two separate pieces it may be adjusted to accommodate any width of wrap container on the market. If the largest and widest original container is first selected, any smaller refill of cello-wrap can be dispensed from this original installation. Cello-wrap refills need not be provided with cardboard cartons with serrated edges thus eliminating these by and large from garbage disposalO ~-2089~17 During use, it is desirable to know how much material is remaining on the roll so that one is reminded when the material is about to run out. A viewing slot is provided at each end of the holder through which one can observe the amount of cello-wrap reamaining.
The holders are simple and symmetrical in design allowing for production by injection molding.
Therefore, they can be inexpensively reproduced and in several colours if so desired.
Since the holder/dispenser is mounted in the kitchen, it is desirable to have it esthetically pleasing. This is accomplished by facing with a plastic strip retained by the holder. This strip can be colour co-ordinated with other kitchen appliances.
On occasion, the holder may be installed in a location where the front and the back are in open view, for example under a shelve over an island. The device is symmetrically designed so that in these cases, both sides of the holder/dispenser may be covered with a plastic strip.

4 In drawings which illustrate the embodiments of the invention, Fig. 1 is a plan view showing the sections which comprise -the holder. Fig. 2 is a three-dimensional view of one of the two identical holders. Fig. 3 is the end view of the holder showing the opening through which the amount of cello-wrap remaining on the roll can be observed. Fig. 4 is a three dimensional view of the holder/dispenser carton and the plastic facing in place.
If the holder were made of metal, it would be folded upwards 90 degrees at 1, 2, 3 and 4. This then, forms a holder made of metal or plastic as shown in Fig. 2. One of these is placed at either end of the dispenser and the assembly fastened to the underside of a kitchen cabinet or shelf. The right hand holder is fastened by a screw through slots 6 and 7. The left hand holder would be fastened through slots 7 and 8. The forward most slot in each case would probably be under the cabinet door because the assembly is mounted flush with the front of the cabinet door. Either the left or right holder may be fastened securely. The other must be only fastened with the required force so that it can be moved in or out under slight pressure. The removal of this holder is necessary -to reload the container which, once in place, prevents further tightening of those screws.
Tabs 9 and 10 hold the dispenser from moving forwards or backwards and also holds the plastic facing 14 in place. The section 11 supporting the bottom of the container must be sufficient length to provide stability to -the cello-wrap dispenser. Indentations into 11 must be not less than 7 mm as at 16 and 17. These are required to clear the cello-wrap as it is being removed from the dispenser. The cello-wrap container requires slight modification as at F'ig. 3 and Fig. 4. The serrated edge 12 will be forward and facing down when properly mounted in the holders. 18 i9 the opening and the roll is removed through this opening. A slot 15 is cut with a knife in the location at the back of the assembly.
An opening is cu-t in the container to match opening 5 in the holder. When the cello-wrap is replaced, the end 13 is pulled down through opening 15.

Claims (4)

1 a metal or plastic holder for cello-wrap dispenser designed as to be used interchangeably for either left or right end.
2 a holder as in claim 1 which is designed to accommodate different lengths and sizes of cello-wrap containers by being able to be separated the required distances.
3 a holder as defined in claim 1 and 2 which has a port for viewing the amount of material remaining on the roller or cartridge.
4 a holder as in claim 1, 2 and 3 with a modified cello-wrap container together form an assembly for the efficient dispensing of cellophane paper a holder as defined in 1, 2, 3 and 4 which is symmetrically designed so that the front and the back of the holder/dispenser assembly may be made identical in appearance.
