Description

- 1 208~88 1 SPECIFICATION

A TURBO EXHAUST PIPE WITH EXHAUST GAS AND BLACK SMOKE
FILTERS

The present invention relates to a turbo exhaust pipe with exhaust gas and black smoke filters, particularly an exhaust pipe which can removes carbon monoxide and nitride as well as filter out black smoke content in exhaust gas to solve air pollution problem arising out of exhaust gas from automobiles.

Automobile has become an indispensable vehicle in our daily life. Automobile, including sedans, buses, trucks, trailers, etc. are used as vehicles for different purposes, such as traveling and carriage of goods and containers. If there is no emission control on automobile, the atmosphere today would be serious contaminated. The use of leadless gasoline has somewhat moderated air pollution, but diesel engines used in trucks or buses always emit a lot of black smoke while starting or climbing slope with incomplete combustion of fuel.

Because of the rising requirements on living environment, environmental protection has become a concern of the public, and air pollution from exhaust - 2 _ 2~8~881 gas discharged by automobile has become a serious problem. Black smokes always occurs due to bad engine condition, road conditions or improper operation, and have become the main pollutants in air pollution today.

Though there are kinds of measures and solutions to solve air pollution problem arising out of exhaust gas from automobile, none of they are completely satisfactory in view of cost factor or efficiency. In addition to black smoke, measures to remove poisonous carbon monoxide and nitride contents in exhaust gas are needed urgently, the only way available today is the use of platinum or rhodium, however, cost of which is not affordable by the general consumers.

In view of the above defects, the inventor has created a turbo exhaust pipe with exhaust gas and black smoke filters after several experiments. It can absorb carbon monoxide and nitride with a particular chemical, and it can filter out black smoke as well. The exhaust gas is satisfactorily treated before discharging to the atmosphere.

The main objective of the main invention is to provide a turbo exhaust pipe with exhaust gas and black smoke filters which uses exhaust gas flow to drive a turbine blade and consequently to rotate a smoke filter ~ 3 ~ 2086881 to rotate for removing of black smoke content, and then to absorb carbon monoxide and nitride contents in the exhaust gas before discharging to the atmosphere. Black smoke collected therefrom can be recycled and used in some industrial purposes, such as carbon black in paint or cement industries.

Another objective of the present invention is to provide a smoke filter composed of a plurality of aluminum alloy bars arranged closely and annularly to permit passing through of only gas and to thrown all impurities out of the filter by centrifugal force from its rotation.

Another objective of the present invention is to provide a turbine blade and the smoke filter made of light-weight, acid resistant and alkaline resistant material, connected to the spindle having each of it ends supported by a bearing fixed to the casing so that application of a light force can rotate the spindle efficiently with minimum energy requirement.

The drawings disclose an illustrative embodiment of the present invention which serves to exemplify the various advantages and objects hereof, and are as follows:

- 4 - ~0~ 6 881 Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a turbo exhaust pipe with exhaust gas and black smoke filters according to the present invention;

Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the turbo exhaust pipe with exhaust gas and black smoke filters according to the present invention; and Fig. 3 is a perspective developed view of the turbo exhaust pipe with exhaust gas and black smoke filters according to the present invention.

Please refer to Fig. 1 for a perspective view of the present invention, the turbo exhaust pipe 10 comprises a casing 11, a front end plate 12, a flange 13 on the end plate 12, an inlet 15 above the flange 13, a porous rear section 16 containing a chemical filter 20, and a black smoke collector 17 beneath the exhaust pipe 10. The exhaust pipe 10 according to the present invention is to be installed behind silencer. The casing 11 is a sealed cylindrical tubular structure made of light-weight aluminum alloy. The flange 13 is designed so as to install a rotating bearing, and the inlet 15 is designed to connect to engine's exhaust pipe 40.

Please refer to Figs. 2 and 3, a sectional view and - 5 - 2~86881 a perspective developed view of the turbo exhaust pipe with waste gas and black smoke filter according to the present invention, there is a first ball bearing 14 located within the flange 13 on the end plate 12, while an inlet 15 is designed above the flange 13. The rear section 16 are porous and has a second ball bearing 14' in it. The second ball bearing 14' is supported by a steel frame 18 so that it is positioned at the center of the casing 11, and corresponding to the first ball bearing 14. A spindle 19 is placed between the first ball bearing 14 and the second ball bearing 14'.
The chemical filter 20 is placed with the porous rear section 16 at a position behind the second ball bearing 14'. The chemical filter 20 is formed with a W-like section for containing of a particular chemical 21 to absorb nitride and to convert carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide. A turbine blade 23 in the form of a disc with a plurality of blades has a wing-like front end 24, and is connected to the spindle 19. A first partition plate 22 in the form of an annular hollow structure is fixed in the casing 11 and perpendicular to the end plate 12 at a position between the inner wall of the casing 11 and the turbine blade 23. A
smoke filter 25 in the form of a hollow cylindrical structure has an annular frame 26 or 26' at each end, and comprises a plurality of aluminum alloy rods 27 arranged annularly between the annular frames 26 - 6 - ~868~1 and 26' so as to permit placing of an annular pipe 28 around them. The aluminum alloy rods 27 are arranged closely with each other to permit passing of only gas but prevent from passing through of any impurity.
Then, with a centrifugal force from its rotation, all the impurities are thrown out of the smoke filter 25.
The smoke filter 25 is fixed to the spindle 19. A
cleaning element 29 comprising with two nets with a plurality of cleaning balls 30 between them is used to remove impurities attached to the nets by rolling of the cleaning balls 30 so as to remove the impurities and to extend service life of the smoke filter 25.
The cleaning element 29 is positioned between the turbine blade 23 and close to the front end of the smoke filter 25. A movable member 31 is attached tot he rear end of the smoke filter 25. An annular member 32 is designed around the movable member 31. A
second partition plate 33 in the form of a hollow disc is perpendicular to the rear inner wall of the casing 11 and located behind the smoke filter 25.
There is annular member 34 around the second partition plate 33. The annular member 34 is overlapped with the annular member 32, but they do not contact with each other. As there is a very tiny gap between the annular member 34 and the annular member 32, the rotation of the smoke filter 25 is not affected even though air can't pass the gap. The turbine blade 23 - 2~8688l and the smoke filter 25 are connected to the spindle 19. Each end of the spindle 19 is incorporated with a bearing 14 or 14' so that a slight force can rotate the spindle 19 with minimum energy requirement. The turbine blade 23 and the smoke filter 25 are made of acid-resistant, alkaline-resistant and light-weight material to minimize load. The smoke collector 17 is positioned beneath the casing 11. The smoke collector 17 is divided into two section - an upper section 35 and a lower section 36. The lower section 36 contain a chemical 21 same with that contained in the chemical filter 20. A mesh with 250 sieve openings per inch is placed above the chemical 21 to prevent from passing of impurities. The upper section 35 is for collection of black smoke. The lower section 36 is removable. A handle 37 is designed outside the lower section 36. The upper section 35 has two threaded posts on its lower front end and the lower section 36 has two screw holes on its upper front end so that the lower section 36 can be secured to the upper section 35 by means of two nuts to prevent from falling down during driving.

The present invention is characterized by a disposition of exhaust gas emitted by automobile. The exhaust gas is discharged from the engine's exhaust pipe 40 into the casing 11 through the inlet 15. When engine speed is over 1,500 rpm, the exhaust gas flow can drive the turbine blade 23 to rotate the spindle at a speed of over 500 rpm. Then, black smoke is filtered out by the smoke filter 25. Since the black smoke is heavier than the gas, the black smoke falls down to the smoke collector 17 beneath the casing 11. The smoke collector 25 filters out impurities in the exhaust gas, the remaining exhaust gas passes through the smoke filter 25, and then enters the chemical filter 20, in which carbon monoxide and nitride are filtered before the exhaust gas is discharged to the atmosphere.

As described above, the present invention is an innovative turbo exhaust pipe with exhaust gas and black smoke filters. It comprises mainly a casing, a chemical filter, a turbine blade, a smoke filter, a cleaning element, a movable member, and a smoke collector. It is characterized by the disposition of exhaust gas which is discharged to the casing from the engine's exhaust pipe through an inlet of the casing. The exhaust gas flow drives the turbine blade to rotate, and consequently rotates the spindle so that smoke content in the exhaust gas is filtered out by the smoke filter and falls into the smoke collector beneath the casing, and the remaining exhaust gas is then filtered by the chemical filter located at the back section of the casing to filter out carbon monoxide and nitride before ~086881 discharging to the atmosphere to minimize air pollution.

Many changes and modifications in the above described embodiment of the invention can, of course, be 5carried out without departing from the scope hereof.
Accordinglyl to promote the progress in science and the useful arts, the invention is disclosed and is intended to be limited only by the scope of the appended claims.
