DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, the apparatus of the present invention has an adhesive tape roll stock (hereinafter called tape stock) feeder 2, tape stock holding device 3, chucking device 4, cutting blade receiving shaft device 5, and cutting device 6.
The tape stock feeder 2 has a rack 10 which engage with a pinion 11. The frame rack 10 is adapted to be reciprocated in the stock feeding direction by the rotation of pinion 11. On the rack 10, six sets of stock holding devices 12 are provided, arranged in the feeding direction. Each holder comprises a pair of arms 13 mounted on a supporting plate 14 secured to the rack 10.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 3, the tape stock holding device 3 has a stock 20 slidably mounted on rails 21 and six supporting shafts 22 which are disposed in parallel. Each shaft 22 is supported by the stock 20 at a rear end thereof and by a cylindrical spindle 35 (Fig. 5) of the chucking device 4. Both ends 25a, 25b 4 20618fi3 of a chain 25 which engages with sprocket wheels 26, 27, 28 and 29 are connected to the stock 20. The stock 20 is moved to a stopper 30 by the rotation of the sprocket wheels 26.
Referring to Figs. 3 to 6, the chucking device 4 has a slide 31 slidably mounted on the rails 21 and a nut box 32 secured to the underside of the slide 31. A
nut in the box 32 engages with a feed screw 33 which is connected to a motor 34 through a belt and pulley device, so that the slide 31 is reciprocated along rails 21 by the motor 34. On the slide 31, six chucks 8 are mounted, each of which is provided coaxial with supporting shaft 22.
Referring to Fig. 5, the chuck 8 has a casing 36 in which the spindle 35 is rotatably mounted by ball bearings. Four jaws 39 are provided in a front portion of the spindle at 90 degrees angular displacement.
Each jaw 39 is provided in a slit formed in the spindle and pivotally mounted on a shaft 44. A rear end of the jaw 39 engages with a cylindrical cam 42 which is urged by a spring 40 to a cylindrical piston 41 through a ball bearing 43. These elements are covered by a cover 46. When compressed air is supplied to a cylinder 41a to push the cam 42 by means of the piston 41, jaws 39 are contracted by the cam to grip a paper bobbin 7 of a tape stock 9 at a projected portion 7a, as described hereinafter. When the air in the cylinder 41a is drained, the piston 41 is returned by the spring 40, and each jaw 39 is expanded by a return spring 45 to release the paper bobbin 7.
A toothed pulley 37 is secured to the spindle 35.
A timing belt 38 engages with pulleys 37 of all chucks and with a cylindrical drive pulley 49. The drive pulley 49 is rotatably mounted in the box 32 and engages with a spline shaft 47. The shaft 47 is 10 ..
operatively connected to a motor 53 through a chain 55 and a clutch 54. Thus, the shaft 47 is rotated by the motor, so that spindle 35 is rotated through timing belt 38 and pulley 37.

On the front end of the supporting shaft 22, a supporting ring 56 is rotatably mounted and a center 58 is slidably mounted in the shaft 22 and biased by a spring 57 to a projected position.
The cutting blade receiving shaft device 5 includes six shafts 15 each corresponding to the shaft 22. The shaft 15 is slidably supported by a frame 59 and connected to a connecting member 65 which is slidably mounted on guide shafts 64. On the shaft 15, a blade receiving member 62 having a receiving chip 61 of sintered hard alloy is pivotally mounted in a recess and urged by springs 63 to an operating position. The 2061~63 connecting member 65 is connected to a piston rod 67 of an air cylinder 66.
Referring to Figs. 2, 7 and 8, the cutting device 6 has six disk blades 16 each corresponding to the receiving chip 61. Each cutter blade 16 is secured to a shaft 16a rotatably supported on a bracket 70.
A blade angle adjusting device is described hereinafter. The bracket 70 is secured to a swing plate 71 which is pivotaly connected to an arm 72 1 0 - , through a pin 73. The arm 72 is secured to a support plate 74 which is connected to a piston rod 86 of an air cylinder 87 secured to a machine frame 75. In the apparatus, the blade edge of the cutter blade 16 is located on the axis of the pin 73.
A pair of projected ends 71a of the swing plate 71 is pivotally connected to an operating rod 76 through a lever 77. The rod 76 is connected to a ball screw 78 comprising a screw and balls engaged with the screw. A

pulley 81 secured to the screw is connected to a pulley 82 of motor 83 through a belt 84.
Thus, pulley 81 is rotated by the motor 83, so that the rod 76 and the lever 77 are axially moved. As a result, the swing plate 71 is pivoted about the pin 2 73. Thus, the plane of the cutter blade 16 passing the blade edge thereof is pivoted with respect to the axis of the pin 73, and hence the blade angle defined by the plane of the blade with respect to the axis of the tape stock 9 is changed.
In operation, when six tape stocks are fed to a cutting section, shafts lS are inserted into the corresponding paper bobbins 7 by the operation of piston rod 67 of air cylinder 66 and shafts 22 and a front end portion of the spindle 35 are also inserted into the corresponding paper bobbins 7. The shaft 22 stops when the front end thereof abuts on the end of the shaft 15 and the center 58 engages with a conical hole 60. Each chuck 8 is moved to the bobbin 7 and grips the projected portion 7a on the bobbin 7, and then rotated to rotate the tape stock 9. Blades 16 are lowered by the air cylinder 87 and engaged with rotating tape stock 9, thereby cutting the tape stocks.
Referring to Fig. 8, the cutting of the tape stock is started from the right side of the tape stock. At the first cutting designated by the numeral I, an ear portion 9a is cut off with a width 10 to 15 mm. Since the ear portion 9a is thin and the blade edge has a V-shaped section, the blade edge deflects to the right as the cutting depth increases. As a result, the ear portion can not be exactly cut off. In order to precisely cut the ear portion, the blade angle is set to +3 degrees, namely, the blade 16 is outwardly inclined. The inclination of the blade is performed by the above described blade angle adjusting device.
Since the blade 16 is outwardly inclined, the ear portion can be precisely cut off without deflection of the blade. A product tape having a width of 50 mm is cut off at the blade angle of +1 degree. The last 50 mm product tape 9C is cut off at the blade angle of -0.5 degrees since the remaining tape stock has a small width. A product tape 9d having 25 mm width is cut off at the blade angle of -3 degrees with a remainder 9e.

When the cutting of product tape 9i (Fig. 1) finishes, the shafts 15 are moved away from the shaft 22 by the air cylinder 66, so that the cut out tape products are removed from shafts 15 and dropped. At that time, the tape stock 9 on shaft 22 is supported by a pair of supporting rolls 90 (Fig. 1). Thereafter, shaft 15 are moved again to shafts 22, and chucks 8 are fed a predetermined stroke. Thus, cutting is repeated.
Product tapes are fed to a belt conveyer 91 through a shoot 92, and waste tapes 9a, 9e at both ends are discharged to a belt conveyer 93, where the shoot 92 is retracted by the operation of a piston rod 94 of an air cylinder 95.
From the foregoing, it will be understood that the present invention provides an apparatus which may cut six or more tape stocks at the same time with accuracy at high speed.

9 2061~63 While the presently preferred embodiment of the present invention has been shown and described, it is to be understood that this disclosure is for the purpose of illustration and that various changes and modifications may be made without departing from the scope of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
