Abstract
Abstract:
This invention consists of two pieces, one of which is secured to the base of a door and the other piece secured to the base of the wall in such a way that they touch when the door is fully opened.
This invention consists of two pieces, one of which is secured to the base of a door and the other piece secured to the base of the wall in such a way that they touch when the door is fully opened.
Description
Specification:
This invention relates to a door fixture to prevent a door from slamming shut.
It is common in devices for holding a door completely open to have an object on the floor which must be moved manually when no longer necessary. This device is not a door fixture and therefore must be located before it can be used.
Furthermore, devices which are designed to prevent doorknobs from slamming into the wall can be inconvenient due to their flimsy construction and loud noise if accidentally stepped on.
We have found that these disadvantages can be overc'ome with a solid two piece device which is firmly screwed into the base of the door as well as the wall. This seems to be the best arrangement for such a device because the magnet on the tip Or the long piece holds onto the metal tip of the other piece and holds the door completely open until the door is manually closed. Furthermore, since the device is secured to the door and wall, one does not have to search for it before it can be used.

In the drawings which illustrate this invention, Figure I
shows the larger piece standing on its base, Figure 2 is the top view of this piece, Figure 3 shows the smaller piece standing on its base, Figure 4 shows its top view and Figure 5 shows both pieces locked together.
The larger piece should be screwed into the base of the door through the screw holes 5. Once it is firmly in place the door should be open fully to determine the corresponding position on the wall for the smaller piece. Now the small piece may be screwed into the wall 9. `
The large piece consists of a plastic base I with the ;
screw holes 5, the neck 2 and the tip 3 which holds the two magnetic strips 4.
The small piece consists of a plastic base 6 with screw holes 9, a short neck ? and a metal semi-circular dish 8.
Once mounted in their horizontal positions the large piece will swing open and closed with the door until the magnet 4 touches the metal dish 8 and holds the door open. To close the door, a slight pull will be required to release the magnet from the metal dish.
