A smoking article comprising a rod of smokable material and a downstream filter unit which includes granular material containing adsorbed compounds that will generate an aerosol when hot gases are passed through it and means for providing a flow of gases from the ignited tip of the smokable granular material which is hot enough to activate said granular material.
