Abstract

ABSTRACT

A fast assembly of flexible pipes which can be assembled and disassembled manually, without tools. This assembly consists in a hollow sleeve which has, at least, one anular threaded projection end succeeded by an intermediate tubular portion, being its external diameter slightly greater than the internal diameter of the pipe to be coupled; finishing said tubular diameter of said tubular portion in a frustum cone which has a greater diameter than said projection; being each assembly end complemented by nuts internally thread having said nuts one its ends partially blocked by a flap which has a circular opening in their center, so that the assembly has certain characteristics in which, once the set is installed, the stress components are essentially axial in an opposite direction to the liberating of the pipe.

Description

2~35~365 FAST A~EM~LY FOR ELEXIBLE PIPINGS

Thls invention is related to the assembly of flexible pipes, such as po]lethylene or the llke, and lt 15 speclally orlented to the obtentlon of a fast coupllng and, therefore, to provlde an assembly whlch ls done by hand alone (wlthout tools).

The assembly of thls lnventlon ls of a slmple desslng, belng the assembly made, preferably, of a plastlc materlal ln whlch the flttlng ls of a materlal harder than the materlal from whlch the plpe ls made. The coupllng ls made by an essentlally tubular body with one or more ends for coupllng where the external surface of each end has a glven geometry whlch, ln cooperatlon wlth a nut, allows the plpes to be anchored to the flttlnq.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

There are certaln types of fast couplings whlch conslst of a threaded plpe ~threaded ln one or both of lts ends) so that lt allows a nut to make the connectlon of a second plpe. Sald second plpe ls ad~usted by lntroduclng lt ln the openlng of the threaded pipe so that a toroldal element of rubber ls pressed between the second plpe and the lnslde wall of the nut due to the actlon of pressure done by sald nut.

Thls uniorl can only he u~ed ln lnstallatlons where the elements t:o be fItted are secllred to other supportl1lg ~tructures because, if thls ls not done, the pressure line can generate an axlal ~hl~tl.lg o~ the plpes.

Also well known is an assembly which consists of a tubular body that has, near one of Its ends, a threaded ring sectlon that flnlshes ln a fru~tum cone so that its blgger diameter is sllghtly blgger than the lnside dlameter of the plpe to be fltted and belng the smaller dlameter of sald frustum cone slightly smaller than the ln~lde dlameter of the pipplng. The unlon Is complemented wlth ~unctlon nuts whlch conslst ln an lnternally threaded body whlch ls partially blocked on one of lts ends by a flap or slde wall which has, ln lts center, a clrcular openlng to allow the lnsertlng or tlght flttlng of the plpe to be conected.
The coupllng 1B made by lntroduclng the frustum cone end portlon of the assembly lnto a pipe end, whlch in turn, wldens the flexlble plpe up to the threaded rlng 80 that the plpe ls permanently submltted to stress. Thls set ls flxed by sald flapped nut to prevent accldental axlal movement of the plpplng.

In this type of assemblies the pipes are stressed towards the releaslng of the plpes accordlng to the axlal component. Thls stress component belng a factor of lnstabllity when the nut ls not safely secured.

It 18 necessary to have a secure coupllng even when sald nut ls notlceably loose.

203~5 ~UMMARY OF THE INVEN~ION

In the assembly of ~lexlble plpes, as wherl po~yethylene, polybutylene, etc. are used, some lnconvenlents of poor fluid-thlghtne~s and deflcient reslstance ln the unlon could be present when vlbratlons lrl the llne are slqnlflcant.

It, therefore, ls an ob~ectlve of thls lnventlon to provlde a fast assembly for flexlble plpes based on a hollow body wlth at least one frustum cone end, end whlch derlves from a tubular portlon. Sald assembly uses a flapped nut so that the coupllng ls done manually, wlthout tools.

Another ob~ectlve of thls lnventlon ls to provlde an as~embly between plpes or between a plpe and a tap or s~mllar wlthout uslng O-rlngs or seals to mantaln lts fluld-tlghtness, or metalllc rlngs that mlght corrode to hold the plpe ln place.

A further ob~ectlve of the lnventlon ls to provlde means of a~sembly where stress components ln the plpe, once sald mean of a~embly ls lnstalled, be esscentlally axlal ln an opposlte dlrectlon to the llberatlng of sald plpe.

A stlll futher ob~ectlve of the lnventlon ls to supply low prlced a~semblles for plpes of a pla~tlc materlal and whlch are ea~y to lnstall, even by non-speclallzed persons.

An addltlonal ob~ectlve of thls lnvention ls to provlde an assembly whlch may be easlly dlsassembled and reused and whlch .- : ~ -6 ~

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING

The present inventlon wlll be de~cribed ln more detall ln reference to the embodlment example, ln whlch equal or equlvalent par,t~ are marked by the ~ame reference numeral~ and ln whlch:

- FIG.l Shows a vlew of an axlal cut of the lnventlon.
- FIG.2 Shows the same element of FIG. 1 but with a pipe fltted to sald element and wlthout the holdlng nut.
- FIG.3 Show~ an slmllar sltatlon to FIG. 2 but wlth the holdlng nut ln place.

DETAILED DE~CRIPTION OF THE DRAWING~ i As lt can be seen from flgure l to 3 the lnventlon consl~ts ln a hollow body of a~sembly l whlch ls alloted wlth a threaded clrcular pro~ection 5 ln an lntermedlate posltlon of sald body 1.
Between the threaded clrcular pro~ectlon 5 and a termlnal end of the assembly there 1~ a tubular extentlon 4 ended ln a fru~tal cone 3, whlch 1~ connected to the tubular extentlon 9 by ~t~
greater base.

The external dlameter of the openlng of the fru~tum cone 3 ls ~llghtly less than the lnternal dlameter of the plpe 9 to be coupled; belng the dlameter of ~ald tubular extentlon 4 ~omewhat greater than the lnternal dlameter of plpe 9 and the greater : . ~: ,.

d neter of ~rustllm c~ne ~ .omewhat greate~ than that of said tubular extenslon, so that a perlmetral ledge 16 ls formed ln the boundary o~ sald element3.

~ o, to make a coupllng wlth the element of the lnventlon, the flexlble plpe 9 ls axlally sllded so that the frustum cone 3 end penetrates it, this wlll re~hape the pipe wldenlng lt; the latter havlllg t~ie tendency to regaln lt~ orlglnal dlameter, therefore, an axial component ls generated wlth the tendency to llberate lt from the coupllng. When one contlnues to press the plping toward the tubular extentlon 4, and slnce the diameter of ~ald flexlble plpe ls smaller than the greater ba~e of sald frustum cone end, the plpe ls constrlcted around sald extentlon 4, specially if one conslders that the dlameter of sald frustum cone i8 sllghtly greater than that of sald plpe. Taking thls into conslderatlon the end 10 of the flexlble plpe 9 ls allotted wlth radlal forces (towards the center) whlch glve adherence to the plpe. The plpe must be fltted ln such a way so that lts end meets the threaded clrcular pro~ectlon S.

Another aspect to be emphaslzed ls that the perlmetral ledge 16 tends to penetrate lnto the lnternal wall of the plpe and, if sald plpe ls axlally pulled from the assembly, the end 10 of plpe 9 wlll deform lnto an internal anular wrlnkle 2 whlch adds to the penetrate of sald ledge 16 lnto the plpe. Nevertheless, when the coupllng ls worklng, the pressure of the fluld lnslde the plpe make~ sald fluld enter ln the lnterstlce alocated between the plpe and the frustum cone 3 untll lt reache~ flap 16 maklng the plpe expand and exlt. When nut 6 1~ lnstalled ln the as3embly, edge 18 tends to wrlnk1e the external layer of the plpe (14 ln Fig.3); sald effect lncreases every tlme that lt 1~ submltted to a tractlon ~o that sald arlular wrlnkle opposes to the llberatlng of the plpe and lncreases the seallng effect between sald plpe and sald a~sembly.

The coupllng of the lnventlon can be integrated to dlfferent components such a~: slmple coupllngs, ~olnt~, ln "T", ln cro~s, ln valve3 or ln fluld 11ne mesurlng lnstruments, etc..
