Abstract

ABSTRACT

A circular cut-out formed by a boss fixed with the lateral side of a latch is used as an axis of rotation for said latch by extending through an ovalized hole formed on one of the vertical wings of the upper mobile profile. The latch is guided frontwardly by a stamped-out flap of the wing of this same upper profile, and has an upper portion formed with a horizontal triangular wing having a hole receiving one end of a leaf spring working in flexion while an other end of the leaf spring bears inside a stamped-out flap of the rear portion of the wing of the upper mobile profile in such manner that the comb of the latch extends into a rack carried by one of the wings of the lower fixed profile of the slide. The blockage of the comb in the rack is provided by a tilting motion of the latch about the circular cut-out housed in the ovalized hole under action of the leaf spring.

Description

- 2~3~7~2 FIEL,D AND BACKGROUN~ OF THE IN~TION
The present lnvention relates to a seat slde latch with a longitudinal play take-up so as to provlde a blockage of the upper profile of the slide wlth respect to the fixed lower profile thereof.
In fact, in spite of a careful fabrication, the toothing of the rack carried by one of the wlngs of the fixed lower profile whlch cooperates with the teeth of the comb carrled by the lateral latch pivotably mounted on one of wings of the sllding upper profile of the sllde does not always correspond exactly, and there iB
provided a sllght longitudinal play which is unpleasant for the person seating on the seat who feels that thls seat is not completely latched;, thereby causing a certain degree of apprehension for the passenger, malnly at the moment of an abrupt brakage or at that of a brutal acceleration, which is alwayæ the cause of a slight reciprocating motion of the seat.
Attempts have already been made to remedy this defficiency, but the solutions proposed up to now have not proved to be satisfactory since they do not allow a correct and definitive take-up of the longltudinal play and are complex solutlons, therefore too costly and which cannot be admltted by the manufacturers (see in this respect FR-A-2 ~62 004).

2~3272~

The present invention remedies these disadvanta~es by providing a simple, little costly and elegant solution ensuring a complete take up of the longitudinal play, without increasing the manufacturlng cost.
SUMMARY QE THE INVE~TIQ~
According to the inventlon, the seat slide hand latch with horlzontal play take-up, cooperatlng with one of the vertical wings of the upper moblle profile of a slide provided with a rack for activating the blockage latch havlng a comb wlth teeth of a square sectlon for cooperation with the rounded profile of the bottom of the toothing of the rack, is characterized in that :
a) a circular cut-out formed by a boss flxed with the lateral eide of a latch is used as an axis of rotation for thi~ latch by extending through an ovallzed hole formed on one of the vertical wings of the upper mobile profile, thi~ latch being guided frontwardly by a stamped-out flap of the wing of this same upper profile, then being formed on an upper portion with a horizontal triangular wing formed with a hole receivlng one end of a leaf spring working in flexion while an other end of the leaf spring bears inside a stamped-out flap of the rear portion of the wing of the upper mobile proflle in such manner that the comb of the latch extends into a rack carried by one of the wings of the lower fixed 7 ~ ~

proflle of the slide, the blockage of the comb in the rac~ being provided by a tilting motlon of the latch about the circular cut-out housed in the ovalized hole under action of the leaf spring ;
b) the leaf spring exerts, via a free end, a rotation torque on the latch by bracing itself in a hole formed in the wing of thiR latch ln order to bring the circular cut-out to cooperate with two points of the ovalized hole, the leaf-spring having an other end coming to bear on the rear stamped-out flap provided on the lateral side of the upper profile.
Various other features of the invention will become more appaxent from the following detailed description.
RRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING~
An embodlment of the ob~ect of the invention i8 shown by way of example in the accompanying drawings, wherein.
Fig. 1 is a side elevation view, partly in cross section and broken away, of a slide including a hand control latch with a longitudinal play take-up according to the invention, Fig. 2 i8 a plan view corresponding to Fig. 1 taken susbtantially along line II-II of Flg. 1.
Fig. 3 i8 a crosæ æectlonal vlew taken along llne III-III of Fig. 1, Fig. 4 is a very enlarged view of an articulation portion of the hand latch of the slide, Fig. 5 is a very enlarged partial cross sectional vlew showing a tooth of the rack toothing carried by one of the wings of the fi~ed lower profile in which is engaged a tooth of the comb of the latch.
~ETAIL~D ~ESCRIPTION OF T~E INVENTION
Referring now to the drawings, Figs. 1 to 3 show a slide includlng a lower profile 1 havlng a U-shaped section (see Fig. 3), the wings la and lb of which being turned over and shaped so as to form a race for balls 2 interposed between the lower profile 1 and a mobile upper profile 3, the upper face 3a of whlch is connected by any appropriate means to base of the armature of the seat ln consideratlon. Moreover, the outer wing la of the proflle 1 ls provided with a rack 4 wlth a substsntially rectangular toothing 5 and the upper sides of which are incllned at 5a, 5b (see Fig. 5).
As shown in Fig. 3, the wings 3b, 3c of the mobile upper profile 3 are bent over themselves so as to form slidlng guldes along the vertical wings lc, ld of the lower profile 1, enhanc~ng thus the rigldity of the profile 1.
The front vertical side of a latch 10 carrie~ a clrcular cut-out ~ (see Flgs. 1, 2 and 4). The latch 10 2 ~ 2 2 is guided frontwardly by a stamped-out flap 7 formed on the vertical wing 3d of the upper profile 3.
Moreover, the latch 10 is normally returned in the latching positlon of the slide by a leaf spring 19 of which one of the ends i~ fixed in a stamped-out flap 8 formed in the same vertical wing 3d of the profile 3.
The latch 10, which provides for connecting and blocking the upper sliding profile 3 with respect to the lower profile 1 is pivotably mounted via the clrcular cut-out 6 housed inslde an ovalized hole 11 formed ln the wing 3d of the profile 3 (see Figs. 1, 2 and 4), while the end lOa of the latch 10 is retained and guided by the stamped-out flap 7. The latch 10, which i8 of a standard design, has first a comb 12, namely a horizontal portion formed with equldistAnt holes thereby defining teeth 13 (see Figs. 2 and 5) whlch normally extend in the toothing 5 of the rack 4 carried by the wing 18 of the fixed profile 1.
Noreover, the latch 10 carries at its upper poxtion a horizontal wing 14 of a triangular shape, the wide portion of whlch is formed with a hole 15 while, in the front portion of the latch 10, are cut two lugs 16, 17 intended for fixing the slide control. Generally, this slide control is a standard yoke placed in a lower portion of the seat seating portion.

2~32~22 The vertical rear portlon lOb of the latch 10 ls supported, when lifted for disengaging the comb 10 from the rack 4, in a cut-out boss 20 (see Figs. 2 and 3) whlch i9 flxed with the wing 3a of the profile 3.
Attention should actually be drawn on the fact that normally each seat includes, on its lower right and left side portions, two slides which are identical and parallel to that which has ~ust been described ; the armature of the seating portion of the seat belng fixed by its lower poxtions on the two upper profiles 3 of the two parallel slides.
A leaf sprlng 19, of a curved shape, iB supported in the rear stamped-out flap 8 and extends through the hole 5 of the horizontal triangular wlng 14 of the latch 10, so that the free end or polnt l9a of thls leaf sprlng braces ltself in the hole 15 formed ln the wlng 14 of the latch 10.
Thus, when the latch 10 18 in the posltlon shown ln Flg. 1, the leaf spring blade lifts a rear end of the latch 10 ln the directlon of arrow Fl (see Fig. 1), the effect of which being to have the teeth 13 of the comb 12 to mesh correctly with the toothing 5 of the rack 4 which is part of the fixed lower profile 1. The effect of this motion is to sllghtly tilt, in the direction of arrow F2, the front portion of the latch 10 (see Flg.
1), whereby the ovallzed hole 11 of the latch 10 comes .

2 ~ 3 2 J 2 ~

to bear on two points lla, llb of the oval cut-out 11 formed on the wing 3d of the upper profile 3 (see Fig.
4), thereby preventing any play of the latch 10 and therefore any play between the fixed lower profile 1 and the mobile upper profile 3 of the slide.
The fabrication of the profiles 1 and 3 is in no way modlfied, the latch 10 ls of a standard type, and the members provided for fixation of spring blade 19, the axis of rotation formed by the clrcular cut-out 6 of the latch 10 and the ovalized hole 11,pertain to an extremely simple fabrication technique and can be manufactured automatically. It should be also noted that the cooperation of the teeth 13 whlch 3tand at an angle of 90 with the bent-over angled toothlngs 5a, 5b makes also easy a cancellation of the vertical plays between the two profiles 1 and 3 of each slide.
