Abstract

This invention refers to improvements in a carrier wheel hub that forms part of the hauling equipment of a train, by means of dividing such hub into two parts, a hub body and a flange joined with screws, eliminating the fiogure zone that is produced conse-quent to material fatigue in the transition zone of the flange and the hub body.

since fissures are produced in the transition zone of the flange and the body as a consequence of an excessive concentration of stresses that surpasses the mechanical resistance of the material.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

Therefore, the objective of this invention is to eliminate the zone that cracks in the conventional hub by means of dividing it into two parts, that is, a hub body manufactured in case steel ASTM A216 WCB and a flange manufactured in a steel plate ASTM A36, joined with screws and conserving altogether the same geometry and dimensions as the conventional hub.
According to the above, this discovery provides a carrier wheel hub redesigned in two parts assembled by screws, that have a resistance greater than the conventional hub of a single piece and that does not undergo any fissuring due to concentration of stresses.
The novel aspects of this discovery are illustrated in the drawings where:
Figure 1 shows a longitudinal section of the conventional hub 1 and the fissure zone 2.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section of the hub body without the flange where the hub body 1 is shown and the fastening place 2 of the flange to such body via screws.
Figure 3 is the front view of the flange 1, separated from the hub body, where the orifices 2 are shown for the fastening screws of such flange to the hub body.

Figure 4 is the lateral view of the hub with the screwed flange where the body of the hub 1 is shown, the flange 2, the screws 3 and the nuts 4.
Figure 5 shows the transverse section of the hub with the assembled flange, indicating the flange 1, the screws 2 and the diameter of the bore centers 3 for the location of the screws.

PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION

The screws 3 (Fig. 4) for joining the hub body 1 (Fig. 4) with the flange 2 (Fig. 4) are selected by the relationship of the following five criteria:
1.- Due to mechanical rupture resistance of the screws according to norm S.A.E. from grade 5 to grade 9, or according to norm l.S.O. from class 8.8 to class 1 1 . 9.
2.- Due to the exterior diameter of the screws, from 12 mm. to 26 mm., or from 0.5 to 1.0 inches.
3.- Due to the quantity of screws, from 10 to 15 pieces.
4.- Due to the type of screw fastening, drill hole made in the body of the hub and in the flange, with the screws fastened with self-braking nuts.
5.- Due to the diameter of the bore centers in the hub body and in the flange for location of 270 mm to 340 mm screws.

NOVELTY OF THE INVENTION

Having described this invention, that contained in the following claims is considered a novelty and is therefore claimed as property.

Claims (6)

1. Improvements in a carrier wheel hub of the type that forms part of a hauling structure of a subway train characterized in that said hub consists of two parts, being a flange and a hub body, joined mechanically by fastener means, thus eliminating a fissure zone that is produced consequent to material fatigue in a transition area of the flange and the hub body.
2. Improvements in a carrier wheel hub according to claim 1, characterized in that the fastener means are selected from the group comprising nuts and bolts and screws.
3. Improvements in a carrier wheel hub in accordance with claim 2, characterized in that the diameter of a bore hole for receiving the fastener means in the hub body and in the flange is from 270 mm to 340 mm.
4. Improvements in a carrier wheel hub in accordance with claim 2, characterized in that the mechanical resistance of the fastener means is from grade 5 to grade 9, according to S.A.E., or of class 8.8 to 11.9, according to I.S.O.
5. Improvements in a carrier wheel hub in accordance with claim 2, characterized in that the nominal diameter of the fastener means is from 12 to 26 mm or from 0.5 to 1.0 inches.
6. Improvements in a carrier wheel hub in accordance with claim 2, characterized in that the quantity of the fastener means is from 10 to 15 pieces.
