Abstract

(57) Abstract The object of the invention is a transfer device equipped with support wheels (4) to move an aircraft (1) or other device equipped with double wheels (6) over a base (2), which transfer device includes at least one so-called self-wedging friction roller (3) which grips the wheels (6) of the device to be moved beneath their axles, and two support wheels to drive at essentially the same peripheral velocity in the opposite direction, and in which transfer device these two driving support wheels (4) are located close to the line of the friction roller (3) The transfer device in accordance with the invention includes a pushing section (12) with its own wheels, power source drive and steering devices, and that the friction rollers and driving support wheels are located in a transfer unit (9), which is connected to the pushing section (12) by means of a boom (11), which is connected to the transfer unit (9) by means of a vertical point (10) and to the pushing unit (11) by means of a horizontal joint (13).

Description

2024!~8~ ~
A Wheeled Transfer Device for moving an Aircraft The ob~ect of the invention i5 a transfer device equipped with wheels for movlng an aircraft or other wheeled device over a 5 base, which transfer device includes at least one ~o-called self- wedging frlction roller which presses onto the wheel~ o~
the device to be moved, beneath their axle~, drive devices to drive tho friction roller and two support wheels at ess-ntially the same peripherical velocity in different directions, and in 10 whiah tran-~er devio- these two driving ~upport wheels are located close to the centre line of the friction roller Here double wheel also means two neighbouring wheels o~ a bogie and friction roller also means a friction track lS The trans~er of al~araft on an airfield usually take~ place u~lng tug tractor~, which must be constructed hoavily, ~o that they will have th- neces~ary tractive capacity Th- oon-truction o~ a tran~er device can be e~-ntially 20 lighten-d when the driving rOrc- i~ transrerred to the ground wheel of the aircrart rrom a drlv- wheel or friction roller belonglng to th- transrer devic- Thi~ pre~uppo~e- that the ~rlatlon roller i~ pres~ed against th- airora~t ground wheol whloh uoh a rOro- that is u~ually a rew peroent of th- weight ~S ooming onto th- wh~

~hi~ invention is eop-cially connected to tran~-r d-vic-~
quipp-d with ~o-called s-lf-wedging friction roller-, whioh ar-known, for example, from the following patent publications, SE
30 437137, GB 845,105, SU 425527, and US 4,125,029 and from Finnish Patent Application 870710 The transfer device ~hown in the US
publication ~ differs considerably from the two previouely mentioned in that it i8 only applicable to pulling the device to be moved In the two ~irst as in thi~ invention the question i~
3S one of a transfer device equipped with a pushing friction roller In these the aforementioned compr-~sive force i~ created by the combined effect of a turning moment and the transfer device's own driving support wheels The known devic-~ demand either good friction conditions or they must be located very low 40 down, which causes difficulties in construction A small 202458~

friction roller can always be placed quite low down, but the surface pressure on the ground wheel then easily becomes greater than that permitted. The known devices are poorly adapted to moving aircraft equipped with double wheels. For example a 5 transfer deviae in accordance with the GB publicatton doe~ not permit the aircraft to turn when the double wheel~ would rotate at di~ferent speeds.
: : .
~ he intention o~ this invention i~ to oreate a new tran~er 10 devl¢e equlpped wlth a so-called self-wedglng rrictlon roller, whlch can operate under very much poorer ~riction conditions than earlier devlces, in which case the transfer device can operate when the rrlction roller is oven quite high in relation to the axle of the ground wheel o~ the device to be moved. The 15 prlnclpal characterl~tlcs o~ the lnventlon appear in the aocompanylng Patent Clalm 1. The maln prlnclple o~ the device iB
to us- the transfer devlce to mul:tlply the pushing power. Under typical conditions a coef~icient of 10 - 15 can be achieved.
Then ~or example the 1 tn (10 kN~ push of a small tractor acting 20 a~ a pusher multlplle~ to 10 - lS tn, whlch power 1B enough to move v-ry large alrcra~t. ~y mean~ o~ the lnventlon ln accordanc- wlth Patent Clalm 2 the lntentlon 1~ to creato a trans~er device e~peolally lntended to move devloe~ wlth double wheel~, whlch permlt~ the devloe belng moved to turn, when the 2S double wheels rotate at di~erent ~p-ed~

The forms of application in accordance with Patent Claims 3 - 5 ~re technloally very advantageous. The form of applioation in acoordance with Patent Clalm 6 makes lt po~ible to use a small 30 traotor as a pusher, ln whloh oase the trans~er unit and boom ~orm a detaohable separate accessory. In a transfer device ln aocordance with Patent Claim 7 the steering is lmplemented in lt~ own movement advantageously by turnlng the trans~er unit in relation to the boom.

In what ~ollows the invention i6 illustrated by me~n~ o~ an example by reference to the accompanying ~igures ln whlch 202~5~4 Flgure 1 shows the trans~er device seen trom above Figure 2 6hows the 6ituation in Figure 1 seem from the side.
