Description

INSERT-CONNECTING TOY
Introduction The present invention relates to a combination toy, and more particularly to an improved insert-connecting combination toy which can be combined into several types of three-dimensional and lifelike animal models.
Back~round of the Invention Most types o~ conventional insert-connecting combination toys are simple planar insert-connecting or plunger-hole types of toys, which are difficult to construct into three~dimensional and lifelike animal models, and are not very attractive to children.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a new kind of tongued-and-grooved multiple insert-connecting structure which can be used to construct several kinds of animal models, and more particularly to construct three-dimensional animal models.
Summary of the Invention The present invention provides an insert-connecting toy which is insert-connected by several irregular shaped construction units, wherein, the construction units are divided into meta~elements and sub-elements. The thickness of the thinnest sub-element is taken as a unit thickness, and the thicknesses of the other sub-elements are integer multiples of the unit thicknesses. Several grooves are arranged on the meta-element, and the width of each groove and the width of the laminate convex bank formed by the grooves are all integer number times the unit thickness. Several grooves are also arranged on at least one of the sub-elements, and the width of each groove and the width of the laminate convex bank formed by the grooves are also integer number times the unit thickness, such that a multiple insert-connecting model can be constructed.
Detailed Description of the Invention The insert-connecting toy proposed by the present invention is hereinafter detailed as following:
2~

Several irregular construction units are prepared.
The construction units are divided into meta-elements and sub-elements. The thickness of the thinnest sub-element is taken as a unit thicXness, and the thicknesses of the other sub-elements are an integer number times the unit thickness. Several grooves are arranged on at least one meta-element, and the width of each groove and the width of the laminate convex bank formed by the grooves are all an integer number times the unit thickness. Several grooves are also arranged on at least one of the sub-elements, and the width of each groove and the width of the laminate convex bank formed by the grooves are also integer number times the unit thickness. The grooves can be arranged on the side of the construction unit to form continuously closed grooves, or to form grooves by sections, and can also be arranged on the front or the reverse side of the construction unit.
To make the insert-connecting easy, it is preferred that the groove be linear or its side projection he linear (i.e. one groove is on the same plane). The width of the groove is consistent with that of the sub-element so as to fit closely during insert-connecting.
One or more grooves which thicknesses are an integer number times the unit thickness are simultaneously arranged on the construction unit so as to insert two or three sub-elements with unit thickness simultaneously.
The width of the laminate convex bank formed by the grooves must be also consistent with the thickness of the sub-element, so that a following stage sub-element can be inserted into the groove formed by two sub-elements which have been inserted in two adjacent grooves.
One or more circular blind holes or through holes are arranged at suitable positions on some of the construction units, and one or more circular bosses which diametars are the same as those of the holes, are arranged at suitable positions on the other construction units. The circular holes are Eitted with the circular ~3 ~ ~ ~ 2 ~

bosses to form another insert-connecting method. By means of this insert-connecting method, two sub-elements can be stacked (e.g. stacked together but offset from one another) to construct a compound sub-element. By this way, if a pair of compound sub-elements which are the same as each other in shape and symmetrical on the left side and the right side are stacked again by their surfaces on which there are no holes, a groove is then formed by offset section.
The sub-element can be inserted into the meta-element directly, and can also be insert-connected with the meta-element by means of sub-elements with grooves or compound sub-elements. By means of this kind of particular structure, one stage or two-stage or three-stage insert-connecting can be done, and yet each kind of insert-connecting can be changed into several different typss. For example, two symmetrical sub-elements can be inssrted into the middle groove of a meta-element simultaneously, the side grooves of which are arranged so as to form a head or tail or a mouth or horn etc. of an animal. If two symmetrical sub-elements are inserted into the left side groove and the right side groove of the meta-element, respectively, they can form legs or ears or teeth or wings etc. of an animal. A pair of circular laminate sub-elements can be inserted into the meta-element to form a pair of eyes of an animal.
To increase the friction force of insert-connecting, the surface parts which are to be connected together can be made as rough surfaces or arranged with several convex lines, bosses etc. The edges (including the edges of the grooves) of each construction unit are all chamfered by circular bead so as to prevent the construction units from scratching the hands of the user, and also to serve a guiding function during insert-connecting.
The cross section of the groove can be rectangular, and can also be trapezoidal (i.e a small taper being provided and the bottom of the groove being slightly ` ) b;~

wider than the gap of the groove) so as to make the insert-connecting close. The meta-element can be made as a ducted box-type structure, in which a sounder is arranged so as not only to save material, but also to increase amusement interest. To increase insert-connecting types, several cylinder units which diameters are the same as those of the circular holes on the construction units can be added. A cylinder unit is .inserted into two construction units simultaneously so that two construction units can be insert-connected together.
