Abstract
A device for preventing falling of a person between a pool cover and a pool wall has a protective element including a first substantially horizontal portion arranged to be placed onto a pool cover near a pool wall, and a second portion extending from the first portion and inclined relative to the latter at an angle so as to extend toward a pool wall at an angle.
Description
~, 1 DEVICE F()R ~REVENTING FALLING OF P~RSONS
BETWEEN POOL COVER AND POOL WALL
BACKGROUND OF THE I~VE~TION
., The present invention relates to a device for preventing falling o~ people between a pool cover and a pool wall.
Pool covers are generally used for covering pools during non-swimming seasons or other periods of non-use. The pool cover can be attached to a pool waLl for example by a plurality of screws or clamps which are spaced from one another by certain distance~s. These distances are quite dangerous areas, s~nce people, especially children I can accidentally fall onto the cover and then slip through a space between the pool cover and then slip through a space between the pool cover and the pool wall into a body of water with grave consequences - This danger is especially real in view of the fact that the materiaL of the pool cover stretches and significant spaces. are formed in the regions between the connecting screws or clamps.
Some pools are also prov~ded with roc~ gardens and other structures which also form free spaces between them and the cove~.
, SUMMARY OF THE lN V~ lON
Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a device which prevents falling of persons through the spaces between the pool cover and pool wall.
5Broadly, in keeping with these objects and with others which will become apparent hereinafter, the invention provides, briefly stated, a device having a protective element having an outwardly exten~;ng portion arranged to be placed on the pool cover, with an inner edge towards the pool wall, and a flexible upwardly 10ext~n~;ng portion, ext~n~;ng from the inner edge of the outwardly ext~n~;ng portion and cooperative with the pool wall.
When the device in accordance with the present invention is installed in the pool near the pool wall, then in the event if a person stumbles into the pool his or her feet will slide over 15the inclined portion of the protective element and he or she will be guided not into a space between the pool cover and the pool wall, but instead toward the flat upper surface of the pool cover.
In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention 20there is provided a device for preventing the falling of a person between a pool cover and the surface of a pool wall wherein spatial gaps exist between the cover and the wall, and the like, comprising: a pool cover; a protective element formed to extend over a contour of the pool cover and a pool wall, the protective 25element having a cross-section which includes a first substan-tially horizontal portion arranged to be placed onto the pool cover and having an outer edge arranged to face toward the pool interior and an inner edge arranged to face toward the pool wall;
sealing means comprising a second flexible inclined portion which 30extends from the outer edge of the first portion toward the pool wall at an angle relative to the first portion, the second flexible inclined portion being removably adjacent to the pool wall for cooperating with and conforming to the curved, irregular surface of the pool wall; the second portion being bendable in 1,' a three dimensional spatial relationship against the curved, irregular surface of the pool wall; the second portion being further capable of overlapping the spatial gaps between the pool cover and the pool wall; the second portion being inclined in its inflexed state relative to the first portion at an acute angle of substantially between 30 degrees and 60 degrees.
In accordance with another embodiment of the present inven-tion there is provided a device for preventing the falling of a person between a pool cover and the surface of a pool wall wherein spatial gaps exist between the cover and the wall, and the like, comprising: a pool cover; a flexible protective sealing means exten~ing over a contour of the pool cover and the pool wall, the sealing means having a cross-section forming an inc-lined concave curved portion in its inflexed state, such that the bottom of the portion is arranged to be placed onto the pool cover, and the outer edge, facing the pool wall, of the curved portion extends upwardly and outwardly toward the pool wall; the sealing means being bendable in a three dimensional spatial relationship against the curved, irregular pool wall, the sealing means being further capable of overlapping the spatial gaps bet-ween the pool cover and the pool wall; the sealing means being removably adjacent to the pool wall.
In accordance with yet another embodiment of the present invention there is provided a device for preventing the falling of a person between a pool cover and the surface of a pool wall wherein spatial gaps exist between the cover and the wall, and the like, comprising: a pool cover; a protective element formed to extend over a contour of the pool cover and the pool wall, the protective element having a cross-section which includes a first substantially horizontal portion arranged to be placed onto the pool cover and having an outer edge arranged to face toward the pool interior and an inner edge arranged to face toward the pool wall; sealing means comprising a second flexible inclined portion which extends from the inner edge to the first portion toward the - 3a - t 3343~7 pool wall at an angle relative to the first portion for coopera-ting with and conforming to the surface of the pool wall; the second flexible inclined portion being bendable in a three dimensional spatial relationship against the curved, irregular surface of the pool wall, the second portion being further capable of overlapping the spatial gaps between the pool cover and the pool wall; the second portion being removably adjacent to the pool wall; the second portion having upper and lower edges and a thickness which increases in a direction from the upper edge towards the lower edge and the upper edge being located horizontally outwardly beyond the outer edge of the first portion as considered in a direction from the inner edge toward the outer edge of the fist portion; the second portion being inclined in its inflexed state to the first portion at an obtuse angle of substantially between 120 degrees and 150 degrees.
In accordance with a still further embodiment of the present invention there is provided a device for preventing the falling of a person between a pool cover and the surface of a pool wall wherein spatial gaps exist between the cover and the wall, com-prising: a pool cover, a protective element formed to extend over a contour of the pool cover and a pool wall, the protective ele-ment having a portion outwardly directed from the wall and arr-anged to be positioned onto the pool cover; sealing means com-prising a flexible upwardly extending portion, extending from an inner edge of the outwardly directed portion, removably adjacent to the pool wall for cooperating with and conforming to the surface of the wall; the sealing means being bendable in a three dimensional spatial relationship against the surface of the wall and being capable of overlapping the spatial gaps.
