Abstract
ABSTRACT
A carrier for elongated equipment for sports, such as hockey, golf, skiing, curling, ringette, or the like: The carrier is designed to hold two or more pieces of equipment and comprises at least a pair of U-shaped channels formed of resilient plastic material.
The U-shaped channels are so dimensioned that the channels open to receive a hockey stick, for example, and develop resilient force to engage the hockey sticks inserted therein.
Normal means for attaching a carrying strap is provided in a manner which permits low-cost mass production.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE _NVENTlON
This invention relates to hand carriers for elongated equipment for sports such as hockey, lacross, rlngette, skiing, golfing and the like.
For example hockey players generally carry at least two sticks as well as an athletic equi~ment bag, This is cumbersome particularly if the sticks are not taped together.
It can also be awkward moving through doorways or in buses, subways or the like.
~ nown carriers for skis are adapted for use on car ski racks or have provision for suspending ski boots as in ~.S. pat. 3,259,284 to Olson. This type of carrier is relatively costly to manufacture and would not adapt well to use as a hockey stick carrier.
Canadian pat. 1,006t481 discloses a hockey sticX
carrier including a screw type clamp which is not entirely convenient and has projections which could cause damage or injury.
It is therefore a principal object of this invention to provide a hand carrier for elongated objects such as hockey sticks that reliably and conveniently secures the hockey sticks of varying cross sectional dimensions without adjustment.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a carrier that is compact, durable and light weight.
Still another object is the provision of a carrier with the above advantages which can be formed by high speed molding techniques thereby re~Jucing the cost of manufacture. ;~

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention provides a carrier for elongated objects such as hockey sticks said carrier comprising at least a pair of U-shaped channels of resilient plastic material, and means for attaching a carry strap; said channels being dimensioned so that said channels open to receive said elongated object and develop a resilient force to engage the ob~ects inserted therein.
In the drawings which illustrate a preferred embodiment, ,, Figure 1 is a a perspective view showing the carrier in use.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the carrier prior to use.
Figure 3 is a cross sectional view of the carrier.
Figure 4 is a top view of the carrier.
Referring now in detail to the drawings the carrier shown generally at 10 in Figs. 1 and 2 includes a pair of U-shaped channels defined by outer walls 24 and 28 and interconnecting walls ~ and 21.
The outer walls 24 and 28 are preferably provided with inwardly directed longitudinally extending ribs 30 and 34 and the partition wall 26 is provided with a pair of ribs 32 extending into the U--shaped channels. These rib~ 32 may be enlarged to provide extra retaining force.

` ~3Q6~3 The carrier 12 is preferably formed integrally as by extruding or injection molding or a comhination of molding techniques. The body of the carrier ia yreferah'y formed of an elastomeric plastlc or a cross linkable polyethylene.
The strap 16 is conventional nylon webbing and has any convenient type of plastic buckle to change its length. The strap 16 is fastened to the carrier 12 bv screws or rivets ~-7v~
Alternatively the carrier 12 may be provided with integral apertured strap retaining loop '22 as shown in Figures 2 and 4.
~ n addition to the retaining ribs 30 and 32, Velcro ~TM~ straps may be provided as to wrap arourd the carrier.
