Flg. 11 Is a sectlonal vlew taken along the llne A-A in Flg. 9;
Flg. 12 Is a top plan view of the valve holdlng means;
and Flg.s 13-15 are operatlon explanatlon vlews of a valve push-ln means.
~3~t~1 Referrlng to Flg.,s 1 and 2, numeral 1 denotes a mac~llne base, numeral 2 denotes a supportlng column which Is ver-tlcally provlded on the machlne base 1 so as to be movable for-ward and rearward by a drIvlng source (not Illustrated), and numeral 3 denotes a swlngable frame whlch Is supported on an outer clrcumference of an upper portlon of the supportlng column 2 so as to be swlngable by a drlvlng source (not Illustrated), and a supportlng arm 6 whlch Is movable upwards and downwards along a gulde bar 5 by a cyllnder 4 Is attached to the swlngable frame 3, and supportlng arm 6 Is provlded wlth a valve Insertlng unlt 7 extendlng therefrom downwards.
The valve Insertlng unlt 7 Is so constructed that a palr of upper and lower parallel supportlng plates 9,10 arranged to be movable horlzontally along the supportlng arm 6 by a cylIn-der 8 Is provlded wlth a valve holdlng means 7a and a valve push-ln means 7b.
As shown clearly In Flg. 3, the valve push-ln means 7b comprlses a push rod 12 whlch Is so Inserted through 13~
the lower supporting plate 10 as to be movable upwards and downwards and is provided on its upper end with a weight 11, a push rod supporting member 14 which is movable upwards and downwards by a cylinder 13 fixed to the upper supporting plate 9 and serves to support, at its horizontal directional extruded portion 14a, a lower portion of the weight 11 of the push rod 12, and a push rod pushing member 16 which is movable upwards and downwards by a cylinder 15 fixed to the upper supporting plate 9 and uses its horizontally extruded portion 16a to push upper end portion of the push rod 12.
A push down force of the push rod 12 caused by its own weight including the weight 11 is set to be smaller than a force needed for causing the lower end of a valve V to thrust through a stem seal S attached to a lower end of a valve guide G, so that the lower end of the valve V may pass th-ough the stem seal S owing to a forcible pushing down of the push rod 12 caused by the pushing member 16.
The foregoing holding means 7a comprises a guide member 18 which is movable in the horizontal direction in relation to the supporting plate 10 by a cylinder 17 and is provided at its end surface with a guide groove 18a which is slightly larger than a shaft portion of the valve V, as shown clearly in Figs. 11 and 12, and a closure member 22 which is fixed to an end portion of a lever 21 rotatable about a support-ing shaft 19 by an operation of a cylinder 20 and serves to open and close the guide groove 18a of the guide member 18.
Valve head supporting members 18b, 18b for supporting the (9 1-3(~
head portion of the valve V at two points on the circumference of a taper surface thereof are projected from an upper surface of the guide member 18, so that the valve V may be able to swing about the supporting members 18b, 18b to such an extent of a free gap thereof in relation to the guide groove 18a.
The illustrated example is a valve inserting apparatus for a multi-cylinder engine, in which -there are provided plural pairs of the guide members 18 and the closure members 22 constituting the valve holding means 7a, and a plurality of the pUSA rods 12 cons~ituting the vaive push-in means 7b.
Numeral 23 denotes a jig means disposed in front of the machine base 1, and the jig means 23 is so constructed that, as shown clearly in Figs. 2 and 5, a jig plate 26 which can set thereon a cylinder head W, with its surface on a combus-tion chamber side being the upside, is pivotally supporsed on a jig base 25 mounted on a supporting base 24 so as to be swingable about a horizontal shaft 27 on a lower portion thereof.
A lever 28 and a nearly V-shaped stopper member 29 are fixed to an end portion of the horizontal shaft 27, and a cylindèr 30 which is vertically provided on the supporting base 24 is connected to one end of the lever 28 so that the jig plate 26 may be swung by the cylinder 30, and a stopper pin 31 which is arranged to be abut on the other end of the lever 28 for positioning the jig plate 26 in its horizontal position is so provided on the jig base 25 as to be retractable 5~
by a cylinder 31a to its lateral escaped position for allow-ing a swing movement of the jig plate 26, and additionally a pair of stopper pins 32, 32' which are arranged to be abut on one end and the other end of the stopper member 29 for regulating a swing movement in one direction and that in the other direction of the jig plate 26 are vertically provided on the jig base 25. Thus, at the position where the swing movement in one direction thereof is regulated by the stopper pin 32 on one side, the longitudinal axis of the valve guide G on the intake side of the cylinder head W may become vertical, and at the position where the swing movement in the other direc-tion thereof is regulated by the stopper 32' on the other side, the longitudinal axis of the valve guide G' on the exhaust side may become vertical. NUmeral 26a denotes a position-ing pin for the cylinder head W provided on the jig plate 26.
A pair of tubular suction means 33, 33' connected to a negative pressure source (not illustrated) are provided on the supporting base 24 in such a manner that the same may be in coincidence with the longitudinal axes of the respect-ive valve guides G, G' when the jig plate 26 is in its re-spective swung positions in one direction and in the other direction, so that, by moving the respective suction means 33, 33' upwards and downwards by respective cylinders 34, 34', the same may be brought into contact with and separated from the lower ends of the respective valve guides G, G'.
Numerals 35, 35' denote valve supply means for intake valves and exhaust valves disposed on both sides of the 13~ 51 .
machine base 1, and each of said supply means 35, 35' is so constructed that, as shown in Figs. 6 and 7, plural holding tubes 36, each of which detachably holds the valve V with its head portion being the upside are provided vertically on a supporting base 37, and oil containing tanks 38 surround-ing the respective holding tubes 36 are provided on the supporting base 37, whereby each valve V may be supplied under the condition that a shaft portion thereof is applied with oil.
Next, the operation of the foregoing embodying example will be explained as follows:-Firstly, by a swing movement of the swingable frame 2,the valve inserting unit 7 is moved from the condition shown in Fig. 1, to an upper side position of the valve supply means 35 for the intake valves, and by the cylinder 4, it is lowered.
Then, by operations of the cylinder 17 and the cylinder 20 of the valve holding means 7a, the guide member 18 and the closure member 22 which are in advance opened one from another are closed to each other, whereby the intake valve V held by each holding tube 36 of the supply means 35 is held thereon. After the unit 7 is elevated under this condition, the unit 7 is moved to an upper side position of the jig means 23 by a swing movement of the swingable frame 3 and an advance movement of the supporting column 2. On this occasion, the jig plate 26 is in advance swung from its horizontal position to its swung position on one side where one end of the stopper member 29 comes in contact with the stopper pin 32 while the suction means 33 is elevated so that, as shown in Fig. 8, the same is in contact with the stem seal S at the lower end of the valve guide G on the intake side, thus enabling a suction operation of the suction means 33 by the negative pressure source to be started at the same -time with a down-ward movement of the unit 7 by the cylinder 4.
Thereby, the intake valve V which is held swingable by the valve holding means 7a is compensated for in its center-ing error by the suction operation of the suction means 33, and, as shown in Fig. 9, the lower end thereof is sucked into an upper end opening of the valve guide G and the valve inserting unit 7 is stopped after being lowered to a predetermined position.: Thereafter, the push rod support-ing member 14 is lowered by the cylinder 13 to such a posi-tion that the push rod 12 may abut on the head portion of the intake valve V, as shown in Fig. 13, and under this condition, as shown in Fig. 10, the holding of the intake valve V by the valve holding means 7a is released and the suction means 33 is lowered.
With the operations above, the intake valve V is, as shown in Fig. 14, inserted into the valve guide G by the own weight of the push rod 12, and when the lower end of the intake valve V reaches the stem seal S, pushing in of the intake valve V is stopped by the resilient force of the seal S. Then, the push-rod pushing member 16 is lowered by the cylinder 15 for pushing down the push rod 12 forcibly, the 1~
lower end of the Intake valve V Is pushed out beloYI the steam steal S as shown In Flg. 15 and the Insertlng operatlon of the Intake va I ve V Is completed.
Next, the push rod 12 Is returned to the orlglnal posl-tlon by elevatlng In order the pushlng member 16 and the support-lng member 14, and the unlt 7 Is elevated. By a retreat movement of the supportlng column 2 and a swlng movement of the swlngable frame 3, the unlt 7 Is moved to an upper slde posltlon of the valve supply means 35' for the exhaust valve, and at thls posl-tlon the unlt 7 Is lowered and the exhaust valve Is held by the holdlng means 7a. Thereafter, the unlt 7 Is returned to the upper slde posltlon of the Jlg means 23, and durlng thls tIme the Jlg plate 26 Is swung to such a swung posltlon thereof on the other slde that the same Is In abutment on the stopper pln 32' and thereby the longltudlnal axls of the valve gulde G' on the exhaust slde Is made vertlcal, and Insertlng of the exhaust valve G' Is carrled out In almost the same manner as mentloned above.
In the foregolng embodIment, the valve Insertlng unlt Is used for both the Intake and exhaust valves, but such a modl-fIcatlon can be consldered that the unlt 7 may be used exclu-slvely for the Intake valve, for Instance, and, as shown by Imag-lnary llnes In Flg. 1, a valve Insertlng unlt 7' used excluslvely for the exhaust valve Is provlded on the swlngable frame 3 through a supportlng arm 6', so that, by advanclng and retreatlng movements of the supportlng 13~
column 2 and a swing movernent of the swingable frame 3, the respective units 7, 7' may be moved between an upper side position of the jig means 23 and upper side positions of the respective valve supply means 35, 35' for effecting insert-ing operations of the respective valves.
Thus, according to this invention, the intake valve and the exhaust valve can be inserted into the respective valve guides at a single assembling station, and thus the apparatus is made shorter in its line length to improve the space efficiency of a factory.
Thls Inventlon relates to a valve Insertlng apparatus for Insertlng an Intake valve and an exhaust valve Into respec-tlve valve guldes on the Intake slde and the exhaust slde ass-embled on a cyllnder head of an englne such that thelr longltudl-nal axes cross oblIquely.
~ t has been normal that assemblIng statlons for theIntake valve and the exhaust valve are provlded separately, so that the respectlve valves may be Inserted In respectlve valve guldes of a cyllnder head at the respectlve assembllng statlons.
For automatlcally effectlng thls Insertlng operatlon, an arrange-ment Is dlsclosed In Japanese Patent ApplIcation PublIcatlon Sho 52-27866, for Instance, In whlch there are provlded, at each of the two assemblIng statlons, a valve supply means for supplylng each valve wlth Its head portlon upslde, a Jlg means havlng a Jlg plate adapted to set thereon a cylInder head wlth Its surface on a comblnatlon chamber slde belng the upslde, and a valve Insert-lng unlt havlng a holdlng means for holdlng each valve detachably and a valve push-ln means, so that when the Jlg ptate of the Jlg means provlded on the assemblIng statlon for the Intake valve Is swung such that the longltudlnal axls of the valve gulde on the Intake slde of the cylInder head set thereon Is vertlcal, the Intake valve supplled from the valve supply means for the Intake valve Is Inserted Into the valve gulde on the Intake slde by the valve Insertlng unlt provlded at that statlon, and then when the Jlg plate of the Jlg means provlded at the assembllng statlon for the exhaust valve Is swung such that the longltudlnal axls of the valve gulde on the exhaust slde of the cylInder head set thereon Is vertlcal, the exhaust valve supplled from the valve supply means for the exhaust valve Is Inserted In~o the va~ve gulde on the exhaust slde by the valve Insertlng unlt provlded at that statlon.
Thls conventlonal type arrangement has the dlsadvantage that, because the respectlve assembllng statlon for the Intake valve and the exhaust valve are provlded separately, the same requlres a greater d I stance, and It is therefore deslrable that for effectlng an effectlve utlllzatlon of a space In a factory, the Insertlng operatlon of the Intake valve and that of the exhaust valve may be carrled out at a slngle common assembllng statlon~

the lower supporting plate 10 as to be movable upwards and downwards and is provided on its upper end with a weight 11, a push rod supporting member 14 which is movable upwards and downwards by a cylinder 13 fixed to the upper supporting plate 9 and serves to support, at its horizontal directional extruded portion 14a, a lower portion of the weight 11 of the push rod 12, and a push rod pushing member 16 which is movable upwards and downwards by a cylinder 15 fixed to the upper supporting plate 9 and uses its horizontally extruded portion 16a to push upper end portion of the push rod 12.
