Abstract

ABSTRACT
A kit for draping curtains comprising two holders and instructions which depict that the holders are mounted to an upright wall and a curtain material, plaited to for a bar-like bundle, is placed over the holders in such a way that the curtain material is retained while a draping arc is formed between the two holders. A method for draping curtains comprising the steps of attaching holders to an upright wall, plaiting a curtain material into a bar-like bundle, and placing the curtain material over the legs of the holder in such a way that the curtain material is retained while a draping arc is formed.

Description

- ~ 1289~52 METHOD POR DRAPING CURTAINS

~ACX~OUND OF THE INVENTION
The present lnventlon is directed to an assembly for draplng curtalns or the llke.
When draplng a wlndow curtaln or a Fortlere, the curtàln material is plaited or ~olded to ~orm a bar-llke bundle ~zigzag or meander ~laltlng) and ls placed over two supporting rods whlch are mounted in horizontally spaced relationship above the wlndow or door, To form a draping arc between the two supportlng rods, the lower portlon o~ the curtain materlal ls therea~ter pulled down to ~orm circul3r-segment-type rolds. It is extremely dl~lcult and requlres a correspondlng degree o~
sklll to keep the upper-most fold or folds taut between the two supportin~ rods.
It 18 the ob~ect Or the present lnventlon to modl~y the above-mentioned supportihg rod ln such a way that durlng the formlng o~ a draplng arc the uppermost ~olds are always kept taut ln an operatlon that does not requlre any special sklll.
. , SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The~above-speciried ob~ect is so1ved in a surprlsingly slmple way by uslng the holders described b`élow.
When the holders Or the present invention are used, lt ls extremely gimple even ror an unskllled person to ~orm a dra~lng arc between two~horlzontally spaced holders. There 18 no rlsk the uppermost ~olds belng pulled down whlle the drapln~ arc 18 ~ormed so that the curtaln would actually ~sag" between the : ' ~

D~SCAIPTION OP TNE PRE~E M ED EMBODIMENTS
The assembly accordlng to the present lnventLon for draping curtains or the llke features at least one horlzontally spaced holder 10 bent to U-shape over whose respective legs 11, whlch ln ehe mounted state form the upper legs. A curtain materlal 13 folded to form a bar-llke bundle 18 placed and ls subee~uently passed from the outslde to the inslde between the upper and the lower legs~of the mentloned holders such that the ::
curtaln material ls retained on the holders 10 while the deslred draplnq ls malntalned. In Figs. 1 and Z, the lower leg of the holder 10 of the present lnvention is referenced 12.

The U-shaped holder 10 ls bent from a flat bar section, l.e., coated flat iron, and the upper leg 11 in the mounted state is somewhat shorter than the lower leg 12 through which the holder 10 may be secured to an uprlght wall 14 (fa~tening screw~ lS).
At it~ free end, i.e., the end presented to the wall 14, the upper leg 11 when in the mounted state ls initially bent upwards and subsequently bent forwardly downwards to form an open-bottomed C- or U-shaPed terminal portlon 16 which actually ~lxes the curtaln materlal ~laced over the upper le~ 11 (see Plg. 1).
~ he lnward terminal portlon 16 of the upper leg 11 has a dual functlon as lateral and upper limiting means with a grl~ping effect on the curtaln material placed over the upper leg 11; o~ course, thl~ 1~ true under the condltlon that the curtain materlal draped to ~orm a bar-llke bundle has a helght ln excess o~ the dlstance between the lower end of the terminal portlon 16 and the top of the upper leg 11. In order to ensure thls feature, said dlstance ls preferably about 5 to 10 mm, es~eclally about 6 to 7 mm.
In the vlcinlty of the U-bend 17 of the holder 10 there is llkewlse provlded an outer llmlting means for the curtain material 13 placed over the upper leg 11. Thls limitlng means ~pro~ects beYond the top of the upper leg 11 and 18 conflgured as a~rosette 18 which overlaps the U-bend 17 of the holder 10 both u~wardly and downwardly. The rosette 18 18 secured in the vl~clnlty of the U-bend 17 of the holder 10 by means o~ a screw 19 whlch ls indlcated ln Pig, 1. Instead thereof, a rlvet ~olnt, an adhesive ~olnt or a solder ~olnt would also be concelvabl~

The intermedlate hook 22 may also be conflgured as a loose U-bracket whlch is open-topped in the mounted state, the forward leg agaln belng covered by a ro~ette 23 servlng as a screen element.
With the descrlbed holders lt is extreme}y easy for anyone to drape curtalns by formlng horlzontal draplng arcs and draped shawls whlch respectlvely depend from the holders 10 according to the present invention for framing the sides of a window or a door.

holder 100 and the use thereof, whereby fabric rosettes 107 are ~ormed in the vicinlty o~ the holder and slmultaneou~ly cover the same (see Flgs. 9 and 10). Thus, the holder 100 is in fact a kind of tool for preparing rosettes or the like in connection wi~ draping curtains, as descr ~ d.
The holder 100 ls made from metalllc ~lat bar materlal or the like and bent to approxlmate U- or C-shape. It is mo~nted in s~aced relatlonshlp ~rom a wall 14 vla an L-bracket 105 secured to the wall ~mountlng plate 108 and fastenlng screw~ 109 ln Flg. 51 such that the plane defined by the two prongs 101, 102 of the holder extends approxlmately ln parallel with thé wall ; 1~ or the surface thereo~, recpectlvely. To provlde the ` mentloned rosettes 10~, the curtain material 13 ls lnltlally placed over the L-bracket 105 in meander-pleated conflguratlon ~as illustrated ln Fig. 6. Then an upper layer of curtaln macerlal ls pulled forwards through the two prongs~101 and 102 as~shown ln Flg. 7 ~see arrow 110 in Plg. 7), and durlng thls operotion the two prongs 101, 102 are resillently spread apart (see arrows 103, 104 io Fig. 71. ~he curtuln materlal 18 pulled forward between ~the two vrongs 101 and 102 approxlmately ; a~s far as shown ln Fig. a. Thereafter, the forwardly pulled portlon of the curtaln materlal 13 ls turned back over and between the prongs 101, 102 (see arrows 113, 114, ~115 in Flg. 9) to obtain the desired rosette 107.
Flg. 10 lllustrates a curtain 13 fully draped around a wlndow 116, whereln draplng has been performed by the use of three horlzontally spaced draplng holders 100 shown ln Flg. 5 and mounted above the window 116.
All of the features disclosed in the present documents are claimed as belng essential to the inventlon to the extent to which they are novel over the prior art either indivldually or ln comblnatlon.
