Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE

In a water closet combination the pan unit may be used separately, and the cistern placed on the pan unit is fixed to the rear of the pan unit. The cistern has part of its base forming a setting-down surface resting on an upper supporting surface of the pan unit, the upper supporting surface of the pan unit being an extension of the rear support surface of the pan unit with the setting-down surface of the cistern projecting from a downwardly directed fastening flange of the cistern.

Description

- 2 ~L28~555 ~ he invention relates to a water cloQet combina-tion wherein the pan unit may be used separately and the ci~tern placed on it i8 fixed to the back of the pan unit.
In conventional closet combinations the cistern is usually on the rear support surface, which contains apertures for the flushing water connection and for fastening the cistern. With such a construction it i6 virtually impossible for the pan unit to be used separately, i.e. without the cistern on it, since the apertures look unpleasant even when covered. A special pan is therefore needed for each design if 80 desired.
This is obviously uneconomic.
A closet combination is already known from EP-OS
0 111 225, where the same pan unit may be used separ-ately and the above disadvantages avoided. In this arrangement the cistern rests on a U-shaped support which also covers the drain; the cistern is fixed from behind with bolts. The disadvantage of such a support for the cistern i8 that the cistern has a relatively complex shape. Nor can there be a visually neat join between the upper rear edge of the pan unit and the cistern, ~ince this edge is neither clearly defined nor straight. ln addition, there is a rela-tively large gap between the pan unit and the wall when the pan unit is used separately.
The problem underlying the invention was to P~

_ 3 _ ~2805~5 provide a closet combination which would avoid the above disadvantages and enable the cistern to be combined easily with a pan unit well suited for separate use.
The problem is solved, in that there is provided a water closet combination comprising a pan unit which may be used separately and which has at least one end and a supporting surface extending from said one end thereof, a cistern having a downwardly directed fastening flange with a centrally disposed vertical slot formed in the fastening flange and a pair of horizontally disposed screw holes in opposite sides of said fastening flange with the slot between the screw holes, a flushing water pipe coupling the pan unit to the cistern, the water pipe being received within the vertical slot, and a pair of screws which are undersized relative to each of the respective screw holes joining the cistern to the pan unit at said one end thereof, with the cistern having part of its base forming a setting-down surface which rests on the supporting surface of the pan unit whereby the weight of the cistern is carried by the supporting surface of the pan unit.
The invention will now be explained in greater detail with reference to an example illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side view of a water closet combination and Fig. 2 is a rear view thereof.

12805~i5 In the drawings 1 is a pan unit provided with a seat 2, a lid 3, and a rear portion 4. The pan unit 1 is provided with a support surface 5 at the back. An upper supporting surface 5' forms an extension of the support surface 5. A cistern 6 rests on it by means of a setting-down surface 7 whi~h forms part of the base of the cistern 6. The flushing water pipe 9 indicated leads from the cistern 6 to the pan unit 1; it is covered by aprons lo' locàted on a fastening flange 10. The aprons are made of ceramics, integrally with the flange lo and cistern 6, and help to increase stability. The cistern 6 is fixed on the back of the pan unit 1 by screws (not shown). These are in holes 11 extending right through the fastening flange 10 from which the setting-down surface 7 projects. The holes 11 are made oversize, enabling the arrangement to be assembled with the weight of the cistern 6 carried not by the screws but only by the supporting surface 5', which need not be at the level of the support surface 5.
The cistern 6 is further provided with an outlet 12, which is connected to the inlet 14 of the pan unit 1 by the flushing water pipe 9. The space 13 gives easy access to the flushing water pipe and fastening means.
The closet combination according to the invention is not difficult to manufacture. Assembly is very simple and it operates reliably. The pan unit 1 shown has an internal vertical drain, but it may alternatively be provided with a horizontal drain for universal connection.
